When the RMAH was launched, I put in $20, bought some gems, then converted those gems into gold. I played for a few months, got to paragon... maybe 20 or so on one character, then quit (never did I find an item drop in game remotely close to anything I had ever "found" on the AH). I played the AH off and on rarely, just to see if I could snipe anything and have some fun with good / better items, because I knew if I ever came back I wanted to have some gold to mess around with.
With the announcement of ROS I was skeptical, but with 2.0 I got hooked I started playing vigorously again. All that being said, I only write you that little narrative give a small synopsis of how much I played for what is coming next. All in all I had about... 100 hours "played" (not sure if sitting on the AH with a character selected counts as play time, but I don't think so). Not so much for a game been out for almost 2 years.
In the last couple weeks, I started playing HC, and cashing out pretty much everything I had on SC through selling gems on the RMAH. I ended up getting about $50 back, (netting $30). I say this not to brag that I made a little money, but to paint a picture that someone playing casually and not really with any intent to try and make money, ended up getting close to paying for the expansion for "free." (I did have fun while playing with friends, so I consider it to be free)
So my question to you good people -- Did anyone actually attempt to make money the whole time D3 was out? Because... there seemed to be a HUGE opportunity to make some real money for those with enough time and patience. Sniping auctions, creating arbitrage through gems (when the prices dropped) before the market can catch up, buying thousands of flawless diamonds for 62 each the first day they came on the market and then selling them for 200k a pop. I'd love to hear how you filled your pockets based on dumb people's auctions.

Post your stories! Anyone who's made over $100, post the screen shot of your RMAH transaction window so we can measure your gaming economics epeen. Have fun!
Edit: Not sure how to post pictures here ---http://postimg.org/image/6u62kf36x/ (reason I have 30 on b.net balance instead of 50, I got the bright idea to try and put stuff on the RMAH after I had preordered, d3... so I just upgraded my reg game for the $20 extra deluxe)
Probably made close to 500 USD or so throughout the past months where I actively botted to make money (wish I started sooner). Paid for RoS and my car/car insurance for a month!

You are one of the people thanks to which the AH had to go.
Makes you think how many people multi - boxed with bots or whatever. Seeing people make that much doesn't surprise me. I probably made around 100 bucks total just by doing very small flipping. I personally found a small niche in Tasker and theo gloves. And made a few bucks on each one I flipped. I put it back into my characters to farm MP 10
I normally do not condone this sort of behavior. HOWEVER, real money is rather important, so I did decide to hop on the bandwagon and try to make some cash before it went down. Trust me, I am way glad it's gone. Sure I cannot profit from the game anymore, but now I can focus on what the game should be about, having fun and slaying bad guys, not making money.
I sold 1 item for $225 and sold $45 dollars worth of gold to pay for RoS. It's nice getting the expansion for free, but I would have rather got this version of the game originally and paid out of pocket for the expansion!

I should have tried to sell my gear on the RMAH before 2.0.1 hit. Sadly I did not. I tried selling mats on it and failed miserably. I realized then that they only sell on the gold AH. However, I earned easily a couple million gold just selling excess mats. I know it ain't much, but I never had much gold to spend before then so it was a large sum to me.

I don't always burn. But when I do, I use hellfire.
I'm doing great. I'm finding more (and more meaningful) legendaries than before loot 2.0. I only bought gold on RMAH once (a couple months before 2.0) so I could have a quick cash infusion before the AH went away. I plan on doing crafting much more than before, so I don't want money to get in the way if I don't have a lot of time to farm upgrades.
I also love the significant decrease in spammers in chat! I haven't seen a single one since the RMAH was removed and they made gold account bound.
