Fist this is meant to be a calm intelligent discussion on the state of affixes, please keep it as so.
Here's my issue,
------ Affixes come in 2 main versions, 1 cc with 3 damage dealing spells, or maybe 1 damage dealing spell and 3 movement or cc. naturally the first one leads to a lot of corpse zergs and the second falls over dead. this brings up my point, affixes need a over haul to make them fun to fight and force you to use a strat other then kite, corpse zerg, or hulk smash!
1 - add new offensive affixes ( will become clear in a minute )
2 - only allow a mob to have an offensive affix that fits there type ( Ex. arcane enchanted for caster or Crushing blow (new Idea) for a melee pack ). this will mean that the attack the mob uses will be logical to the mobs type.
3 - the AI should be improved to allow the pack to intelligently use the spells they have rather then just randomly spamming them.
4 - limit what affix types each level of mob can have.
----- Champion ( blue ) this pack would be forced to a fixed set, 1 of each type ( offense, defense, control, movement )
----- Rare ( gold ) this pack being stronger then champion would have more freedom, rather then 1 of each the mob would be allowed to spawn with 2 of the same ( Ex 2x Offense, 1 control, 1 defense ) in the example the mob drops a movement for an extra offense.
Up to this point the mobs are limited to affixes that fit there type but above this the rule is removed.
-----Unique ( purple ) this mob is 1 level below a boss so the rules get a little more lax but we are going for mobs that take some strategy beyond the 3 normal so the rule is the mob can have up to 2 of any type with no limit on pairing. ( ex. 2 offense and 2 control, or 2 offense and 2 defense )
as noted this level mob is not limited to offensive affixes that match there type as they are equal to mini bosses and we want them to be more unpredictable.

under this idea you would have a rough Idea what you would be fighting, but would mean at the same time the mob is a true challenge and more then just a huge DPS stick with a CC ( ex Arcane, Plague, desecrate, vortex ). Adding in improved AI with this Change Idea would make all affix pack a welcome challenge rather then a frustrating obstacle. an added bonus to this would be that mobs could have 4 affixes even on normal because skill and strategy would play more of a factor in the kill then level and gear.
Note the above is just my thoughts and Ideas, anyone that is willing to make a logical thought out response and explains their thoughts and Ideas is welcome and encouraged to join this discussion.
