The one thing that dictates how much gold an item is worth is supply and demand.
1-handed weapons with decent base dmg (850+) and crit dmg + socket are probably by far the most popular, and if everyone wants one the demand is definitely going to be a lot higher than the supply.
The way you can find out what's the current supply on a specific item is by using the search mechanics as some have suggested. I prefer underrating the item stats on the search (if my item has 150 STR, I'll search for 125 STR), because undercutting 10-20% won't help you sell if there's an item with 5 less STR that is 5 million gold cheaper (mostly because 5 STR isn't worth 5 million gold if you're smart).
