If anyone doesn't mind reading a fairly funny/sad story about an idiot friend of mine who could use anyone with experience in the matters help please continue if not by pass the paragraphs.
Yesterday my buddy was convinced that when you start a new character you automatically get gold. He told me that he created a new character and that the character started offf with 20000+ gold, and that he could just keep creating characters give me the gold and we could make over a million in less than an hour. I told him there was no way, and that blizzard would not give out free gold like that more likely we would not be the first people to figure this out.
This explanation is not good enough for him so he decides to prove it to me and another friend by creating a new character and vwala! He starts off with 30,000+ gold this time. I explain to him that he must have got it from the auction house (because I assumed he knew how much gold he had X)). He says no he made a new character and they gave him 30,000+ gold, my other friend makes new character and calls him an idiot and says this is the same amount of gold like my others its shared "idiot". We laugh at him and both of us head to the auction house. He feeling like an "idiot" im sure goes to delete the character, and goes absolutely silent. Seems he deleted his level 58 Monk in A3 hell (not the greatest character ever, but he held his own in hell and 1 or 2 good items like demon are claws i believe they are called and some other decent ones). To top it off it deletes the naked character 2 seconds later which turned out to be a big mistake.
We tell him to go to blizzards customer service section to see if he could call or email to get the accident rectified. Now im going off what he the "idiot" said, but he read that a character restoration is possible only for the last character deleted which happens to be a level 1 Witch Doctor that he has just created as part of a gold making scheme. The hotline was closed so he couldn't speak with anyone directly, he will be trying to do so today.
Anyone have any idea on if he has any chance of getting his character back? And what is the best way to go about it?
Some people are just not meant to play this game. Sorry.
Ya he said if he can't get the ball rolling on getting his character back by the end of the day he is quitting. I think he would give it another chance, but I can't blame the guys its a stupid careless click of button and they didn't ask him if he was sure! He is my playing buddy and while there is noway im quitting this game I would like to be able to him in some way get back his Monk I would help him progress through the story, but he was in no mood to hear such a thing when it happened.
He just needs to say he accidentally deleted it, which is exactly what happened. Blizzard CS is intelligent enough to know that no one would ever delete their best character for no reason...

I don't know why they'd restore a character that was deleted by the user that created it. This isn't a case of account security; like you said, it's a case of idiocy. Too bad for your friend; some lessons are harder to learn than others.

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.

Ya he was thinking about lieing and sayying it was gone when he got there. I told him honesty is the best poilicy, but as you could imagine he was a hard guy to talk to after it happened. Not angry just in disbelief.

Ya im guessing this is what he thought, and thats why he wants to lie and say it was gone when he got there.
The game does ask it. The exact question is "Are you sure you want to delete <hero name>?".
Anyway, only option is to contact customer support by either phone or ticket (click "Customer service" ingame) and hope for the best. There is no point in saying it was done while he was away because they are able to see if there was any suspicious activity.

Ya i asked if they asked if he was sure he said no, but clearly his word isn't worth too much.
Ingame support / call line will definetly help him if he decently and politely explain the issue. Considering that D3 require enet connection i'm sure they store back-up data (like they do in WoW) on their servers. So i wish him good luck.
I like all the people in here, saying "glad he's gone" "good riddance" "what a super idiot" Yes what he did was dumb but get off your high horses and stop acting like you've never done something stupid. lol.

Yep. Perhaps this would be a good place for some of us to post stupid things we've done in our Diablo "careers".
I used to roll Baal charms, always looking for a sweet melee GC for my Zelaot. After about two months and what must've been 200+ rolls, I rolled this sweet 3-mod melee charm (AR-Life-Max DMG) and it was near perfect. I was so excited I about shit....these were worth a small fortune to the right buyer, though I planned on using it for my Zelaot.
In a hurry to X-fer it to my zelaot, I dropped it on the ground and exited, not allowing the game to perm....losing it only a minute after rolling it. POOF...gone forever.
I accidentally threw a 405% EbotD on the ground once in a pub game and it got swooped up. If lag hit at the right time while you were putting an item from your char to your stash, the lag could cause the item to be thrown on the ground.

Which is exactly why im glad im not playing d2 anymore, stupid shit like that happened all the time, that game was flawed to no end.
Isn't there a way to undelete your las deleted character on character screen with the green arrow next to the delete button?

Yeh. Tell your friend to phone Blizzard, because they have incredible CS and that is probably his best chance at getting his character back. If I was in his situation that's what I would do.
