Maybe its our comp or maybe we are undergeared but it seems like any elite packs that have insane move speed / the immune shields / teleport are near impossible to kill before they wipe us and we have to just chain rez and kill them eventually after 2 - 3 deaths each.
Is there any strat against these packs with some of the worst combositions of powers? I feel like even with more gear they are just too hard to get away from to survive long enough to dps.
I've had one pack that took me forever... I can't remember the exact affixes, but I think it was Shield/Ice/Fast.
Another pain is Immune minions with... well, it doesn't matter, just 2 other affixes that cause a lot of trouble. Couldn't spread them out a bit either because I met them in cramped areas.
It's meant to be difficult = ] Just fix it wasn't so much more difficult than most of the bosses =P
Champion/ Elite packs with aoe abilities such as molten, plagued, arcane enchanted, desecrator etc etc are nearly impossible to kill right away in hell and inferno modes. That, combined with any vortex/fast/teleport abilites make them the harderst part of the game imo (that's why infero runners actually skip a lot of those packs).
I don't think there's a particular way to actually defeat these packs in one shot, without deaths etc. You have to kite them for ages, corpse run back to them and just keep on trying until they are down eventually.
Ya , I assumed they skipped them. Up until hell I had cleared all maps and all dungeon levels on each act to not miss anything and now it seems like I can't with my group.
But my question is how those players get enough dps or gear to do infero if they just rush to it. Im sitting at lvl 58 with 7k dps and Im finding upgrades scarce.
I finished up hell on a wizard yesterday and tbh I can't do anything but agree that the champions and stuff are really brutally overpowered. Every single group I met I had to kite halfway across the zone and basically if they were on my screen at all they could oneshot me.
That said, once you get godlike gear you can handle it. Stats such as "Add all resistances" are incredibly strong and actually allows you to survive a few Mortar hits even in Inferno and you get more lifesteal / life on hit items / health regen, vitality and damage as well. It will get manageable in the end but I really hope they rebalance is cause right now pretty much every single blue and elite is certain death unless you can kite them halfway across a zone or abuse a portal to wear them down. It's just sad really.

We have solved this problem with our group. Try this. We basically played like WoW.
Our group compo is a TANK Barbarian, Wizard and Demon Hunter (me).
Tactic is basically Barbarian Taunt everything and try to pull everything to him. He will stuffed himself with vit gem and use a healing aura+ all health regen ability. If spec right certain combination of mobs won't be able to kill him at all.
Wizard and me (DH) go BANANAS on DPS. I spec pure DPS with 2 survivabilty skill. No CC at all.
With this set up we blased through Act 2 and now just starting act 3 as if it was normal mode.
Granted some elites pack combinations are a pain because obviuosly this game doesn't really use agro table like WoW. So those with Teleport, jailer, waller, and most importantly MOLTEN + speed mobs are the pain in the arse. They will target ranged class first especially Molten mobs will 2 shots demon hunter in a quick. I have to be on my toes paying 100% attention most of the time and unload everything I have. I am doing about 9k dps with 17k crits. The Wizard does about the same dmg. We have 3 wipes at most. Usually none.
And we don't rush through content. Problem with Hell is that people try to move forward to quick, which sometiems mean you will be awfully undergeared. I am not farming Hell of course it's pointless, but we clear every dungeons before we move on and get many good rares along the way.
This build rely on how good your DPS can STAY ALIVE and deal damage. Demon Hunter is proned to die fast if the player is not comfortable with movement. It's the squishest class of all. If played right he's insane DPS support. Wizard has diamond skin to run around and Archon mode when things get complicated.
You can try this if your group has good communication. Expect to die on some combination of pack but if you play right you can manage everything before wipe. With that said, regular mobs are cake walk.
The problem with random group is this. Everyone wants to survive so they mix CC + damage, which in fact make it much harder and longer to kill. I spent 10+ wipes on 2 champion packs last night to the point that I just quit because I was so tired of clicking.
The most important problem for random group, especially a group of FOUR is that the enemy has much higher HP. If you don't have good DPS you will spend more time wiping than progressing. So with smaller group and good dps, it will be a lot easier.
That's some good advice.
The tl;dr version is basically Diablo 3 validates the tactic of "the best defense is a good offense". If you can kill your enemies, then you won't die. It's slightly trickier than just maxing dps because they'll rush you and 1-shot you, hence you need some sort of CC or distraction. But, the game is still heavily dps-dependent.
Elites/rares are indeed a huge pain. So fai i only played solo with my monk and i just killed hell SK. Problem is that they outlast me. Unless they jump me with a lot of other bad guys, i can usually get them to halfish hp before things get ugly. At this point i have everything on cd (including pots), am running out of spirit and am most likely getting cornered. Some of them also require perfect positioning (especially for melee classes i guess) in order to attack them. A good example is moltens, just getting close enough to be able to hit them without melting is a challenge.
I don't mind it being hard, i just find it weird that they represent such a huge difficulty spike. Regulars die like they're made of butter, then one rare comes in and rapes you. Not to mention they're A LOT harder than act bosses. Which is kinda weird.
TL;DR
Molten vortex waller, umad?
