After playing the Diablo 3 beta for the first time, I noticed some glaring weaknesses to the chat system which could have been easily improved with a few simple implementations, which would enhance the overall player experience.
1. UI adjustment. Allow the player to manually adjust the UI however he likes, be it increase the chat window size or move it around. I often times had to strain my eyes to read the overall too small letters on my 15'' laptop screen. Being able to manually adjust the UI size can fix this instantly, and makes the overall experience more enjoyable.
2. Add "General Chat"-channel as an optional chat channel. Sometimes you just want to chat with random peple about random stuff, it's way better to have a seperate channel for this, than flood the trade-/"looking for group"-channels.
3. An option to toggle on/off game notification. The game spams you with unecessary dialogue and information about kill streaks and whatsoever, which is really annoying and would clutter the general in-game chat window all too fast.
4. Add emotes. Would have been a cool additional touch to the game, considering the heavy reliance on online co-op. Way better than having to txt a message in chat that nobody will be able to read, anyways.
Well, this is my rant for today! I hope they'll eventually implement a few similar features. I really do believe that its current state is poorly implemented and needs a general overhaul with more options for customization. These are easy and small implements that would be greatly appreciated by the community, I believe. And it would take one progammer, mabye one week tops, to implement these improvements.
Leave your comments below; what do you think about the chat system? What else could they do to improve the chat system?

As much as I hate comparing the two. What they have in WoW in relation to what you've spoken about would be quite nice.
So like adjustable UI scale, Chat window. Dedicated chat channels.
Though I'll have to disagree with your suggestion for emotes. I just think /dance and /joke have no place in the world of sanctuary Sorry mate.
