now that blizz has so fully embraced and even pushing (via annual pass) digital purchases, will midnight sales ever be the same again?
I dont mean the huge events blizzard will run those are always going to happen, but i have been to midnight launches at 3 different cities ranging from 50k to 500k pop, they are still amazing at that level.
i was at the sales for burning crusade, wrath, and sc2, they were great opportunities to connect with gamers in your community.
if they are gone i feel sorry for all the new blizzard gamers who will miss out on these wonderful times
add:
im hoping there will be one for diablo 3 where i am now, hoping...
should be, depends in what they give you in regards to pre order goods. I remember when I went to gamestop for wrath I got some tshirt and a poster. And gamestop rolled out pop and cookies for us hahaha. Someone ordered a few pizzas, it was awesome.
If they add enough physical incentive in physical pre orders, I think these events will stay for sure. If not... I have doubt for their future

Connect with gamers in your community for a brief 1-6 hours, only to never see or talk to them ever again.
Not everyone has jumped on the digital bandwagon and some still enjoy hardcopies.
There will continue to be midnight sales - don't worry so much.
The only midnight sale I've ever went to was for an Everquest expansion, like Scars of Velious or something. They were all dressed up in their roleplaying shit and at that point I decided to never go for those kind of sales ever again. It was horrifying.
depends, maybe at the big stores or the store blizz are at, and maybe in the states
here in ireland there are no midnight game releases, well maybe for some games, but diablo wouldnt draw enough people to open a shop at midnight
starcragt has a much bigger fan base than diablo, wow is even bigger, so the sales figures should be interesting come 3 quarter
depends where you live
You would be surprised how big the Diablo fan base is my friend. It sold something like 4 million (around there) copies. This was before WoW times. That's a lot of people for the early 2000's. Diablo 2 also at that time was the fastest selling PC game.
Diablo 1 sold around 2.5 mil copies which IS HUGE for that time period. if you go to metacritic, you will see Diablo scores waaaaay up there as well.
This game is going to hit probably 7 to 7.5 million at least.

and its not about if the store will open at midnight, its about the hundreds of people all sharing the space and talking about how much they love all these blizzard franchises, sharing in the excitement of the launch, it was so great
