Ok so what is the big deal with the new rune system why are people hating on it. Seriously the old rune system was going to be a huge pain in the ass. It was absolute shit in no way would it have been better than what we have now and yet what do i see people saying omg i hate this rune system its lame i wanna spend countless hours looking for runes well guess what i dont i wanna play the game not play find the rune im glad its the way it is. Its easier i dont want to have to farm runes to get the right one i wanna play the game thats all.
sorry about getting mad im just tired of people argueing that the old system was better when they never even got to play that version that is all
Most people, like myself, who wish (I'm not mad, I still think the game is great, will buy it, and play it equally as much as otherwise) that they had just gone with the 5 rune types, 7 levels system. 35 runes total. Not a different rune for each skill, just a different one for each level/color that can be applied to any skill.
That makes the most sense for me and I think it would be awesome.
I could totally see them adding additional runes as drops in an expansion, however.
Runes with no stats were better in my opinion like pskfry said, but I just think its dumb that some of the runes require really high levels to unlock. I don't want to wait until right before inferno to try some abilities out, you should get that all out of the way in normal, sucks that you don't even get to enjoy most of them while you level. The old system did have its problem like trying to organize all the ranks, but to be honest as you progress you probably wouldn't have all seven ranks of runes at once, probably about 3 and 15 slots dedicated to a more interesting system seemed like more fun to me.
Even if we haven't played with the full system at launch there are some assumptions you can make about it just by whats there, like its probably not fun not being able to choose some things until max level. Maybe it is complaining, but people want their opinions to be heard about something that find questionable in the game pre-release.
i don't hate the new one, i liked the old way better it gave you something to hunt. I think it could have worked but i think someone in the top floor at blizzard said "make something that works so we can move this product." If they would find a way to implement the old way that would be pretty cool.
old way gave you that feeling of "OMG a level 6 crimson rune! now i will own facez!!!"
So i Guess they should just hand you gear too huh? Cause I mean GOD SEARCHING FOR GEAR IS SUCH A PAIN MAN! I REALLY HATE HAVING TO GRIND FOR THAT +RUNE STAT AND THAT +STR STAT ON MY HIGH LEVEL GEAR> IT'S JUST SOOOOO BORING AND ANNOYING AND IT TAKES AWAY FROM ME PLAYING THE GAME PLEASE JUST LET ME UNLOCK PERFECT GEAR AS I GO ALONG NO MORE ITEM FINDING WHILE WE'RE AT IT LET'S ELIMINATE THE INVENTORY CAUSE YOU KNOW FINDING GEAR AND HOLDING TOO MUCH IS JUST NO FUN!...
It's so funny when you argue against yourself. Just as you're tired of people giving constructive criticism on a something they feel could've been a lot better, I'm also tired of people whining about people trying to give good feedback on one of their favorite games. I'm also tired of baseless opinions.

HAHAH AGAIN BASELESS. You know there's a +rune stat correct, So now your gear will also help determine your build. HAHA funny stuff mans funny stuffs indeed. Please I really don't see why this new skill system is so godly superior. It's pointless unfair to new players and is a forced playstyle. If that is what constitutes a good game mechanic, and a good game in general, then I've lost all hope for future games.
And to Rebuttle your little statement there. You said "Its easier i dont want to have to farm runes to get the right one i wanna play the game thats all." Now if you didn't mean to say" I hate farming its such a pain" which is exactly what you implied in your post then you should've said "Having to look for an item just to get a certain skill for your build" Which in any case would've been pointless to say because gee oh golly gosh, Gear is meant to accent a playstyle too. If You're butt hurt that you're not just given the skill, then why aren't you butt hurt that you're not just given your gear? You really are pulling a double standard here.
In Closing If you really think that making rune's given to you makes the game any more enjoyable or any more easier, It doesn't. It just removes a medium from which to get them. and That medium is still there for other things. So them removing that medium is essentially pointless. In fact what they did after that was make the game worse.

People are complaining because they never got a chance to try them, so without knowing what it would have been like they are instead complaining about what was removed and never tested...seems legit to me.
this post was formed around the basis that i didnt understand why people liked the old way when they couldnt even try it thats all and now that you have a rune system its automatically crap why is that because a system you didnt get to try would be better

No people are complaining because, on paper, the original idea sounded way better. The new idea, even though only tested in the beginning stages, still sucks. It literally forces you into a progression, which by the way SUCKS DICK. At least with the other idea I had FREEDOM to CHOOSE, WHEN to place ANY rune into ANY skill.
Edit: I 'll go look for my solutions because I don't feel like typing it up again it's in another thread. It explains exactly why I feel this new one is inferior and the old is much more superior AS LONG AS CERTAIN TWEAKS ARE MADE. So in no way am I full supporting the old idea, just its basis.
I have to ask why do you like the new skill system, I'll post my arguments coherently here.
1) the new system forces you into a progression 2)New players or casual newbs won't hit all the runes now. ( Claim backed by Blizzard. They said that Newbs won't make it to end of hell which is where you'll be at lvl 60. So now newbs can't get all skill combinations without grinding nightmare over and over which is the opposite of what they originally intended. They used to want everyone to try every combination, seems like they said fuck that.) 3) They took out grinding for an item for the sake of inventory space... I mean do I have to say more. I already grind for gear, why not grind for runes as well.
The Solutions to the system should have been as follows. 1) revert to the oldest form of rune system known to fans. The one with just the types of runes, and the 7 ranks, while keeping the upgraded tool-tips and stat changes. 2) make each type and level stack-able, that's a mere 35 slots, which most people won't take up that many anyway consider they'll probably at most keep up to two ranks of runes at a time. 3) make the highest rank drop at level 4, so that you can still keep a sense of working for your runes. 4) keep rank 1 runes DROPPING LIKE CANDY. Jay said they did back at Blizzcon so the argument" I couldn't find a crimson in the old system now I can just choose it without having to worry" is bullshit because if they all have equal drop rates then it's just as easy to find crimson as every other rune. and since they dropped as often as whites it's safe to assume that problem was non-existent. 5) Make them salvage-able, and sellable. If they sell for a nice gold price (increases price with rank) then you have a nice way to get gold out of your farming other than whites and useless magics, and make them salvage-able only rank 2-4, and rank 4 mats provide you with very high-tier mats used for creating some quality gear. This makes them not useless as drops because now you actually use them, and they wouldn't be over abunded because rank four wouldn't drop often and rank 5+ have to be made by crafting through the jeweler. 6) add +Rune stat bonus'. So let's say crimson rune on blizzard adds 200% wep att, make it so the gear would read as, Crimson rune: Boost in main attribute, for lack of a better word, bonus by 20% so now instead of adding 200% weapon attack it ads 220%. This involves your gear with your build adding a sweet sense of permanence at high levels while adding almost none at low levels. 7) Destroy the rune on skill switch or rune switch. This provides with a nice sink to keep them out of the economy once switched and makes the player feel like they've committed to something, which this game lacks a lot of (this might just be personal preference, but when I choose my build I'd like to be tied to it because It makes me feel like this was what I chose now I've got to just add to it, instead of constantly switching everything out.)
This is my reasoning. It's as sound as can be. I Really don't see how if my simple effective solutions are made it wouldn't solve a single problem anyone has with the system. OFC it will have VERY few drawbacks, but you have to admit this one has big drawbacks that really impact playing the game.

lmao. uhm no you had no freedom. you were at the mercy of the drop chance and what rune dropped at what time (even if they did "drop like candy") the low lvl ones were so shitty they werent even good compared to the non runed version so it basically was shit until you found lvl 4 runes which wasnt until inferno. at least with this system you have something to look forward to at certain levels of progress in the game. if you found all the runes by 30 you would of tested all combos and just spend your time looking for high lvl runes and high lvl gear from then on out. making lvl 30-60 pointless and annoying and THAT alone is a good enough reason to change it. the new system is definitely an improvement. and would be perfect if they just gave us the choice of which rune to unlock.

I have a fix. You pick which rune effect you unlock when you level, but you still gain them at the same levels.
e.g. You gain the first Poison Dart rune at level 6, you then get to pick one of the rune effects from the skill.
You would still unlock the runes at the same levels but atleast you have some control on what you get. I think this would please everyone.

Yep... this was asked soooo often.... but we wont get it. Bash said that they kinda like (or dont hate?) the idea of us choosing our runes... its only that they 1) dont have the time to make the change herpderp 2) want to guide the noobs 3) want to hold back the "cool" rune effects for later (I thought all runes are equally good?). So yeah we wont get the choice to unlock the runes we want...
I see. I have no problems with them making the game with "noobs" in mind. Everyone has to start somewhere and assuming everyone who plays D3 will have played D2 or even WoW to some extent when it comes to a skill system would be naive.
However they already have the feature in place for this to happen, the option that lets you select any skill for your bars. They could just make it so when this it turned on you get to pick your runes.

Lmao Uhm No again. I'll respond as politely as possible. If you read through my reasons then you'll clearly see why you actually have freedom. Or you could simply go look at an interview with Jay Wilson where he says "RUNES DROP LIKE CANDY AT RANK 1 AND 2." So your argument is complete bullshit. If every type of rune has the same drop rate then you would never have problems finding runes. And If it take 5 rank 1's to make a rank 2 or even 10 of each to make a higher rank I don't think you'll be searching for very long. So again your argument is complete and utter bullshit. The fact that no one has realized this amazes me. the fact that you're just butthurt over a part of the game, GRINDING FOR GEAR, is baseless as well. You're basically complaining about a core part of the entire Diablo series, this to me is just dumb. It is diablo the LOOT is diablo. It always has been about story then getting the best and most perfect gear you can possibly find. I don't see how grinding for runes is any different, especially if they salvage to make high level GEAR which you NEED ANYWAY, or sell for a nice gold amount. So what you don't have anything to look forward to from 30-60 besides oh IDK beating Nightmare/Hell/Inferno getting achievements, Perfecting your build, IDK that seems like a whole lotta nothing? IDK man people got differing views. You can certainly have yours but I think that's plenty to look forward to.

You should include the leechers crying about MF/GF being averaged into the group as well. I am sick of those guys even more! I can kinda see the guys argument for the runes as items, but these would be leechers crying cuz they cant be douchebags? How does that make sense?

i did say they dropped like candy. DER. its not a feeling of progress, its random how much of each type drop and so how many of the higher level runes your going to have. and where did it say 5 or 10 runes to make it? if they did drop like candy NO WAY in hell they would make it only 10 to get a rank 2 since rank 2's drop in a whole other difficulty so its more liek it would take 100 logically speaking.
nope that isnt enough to look forward to. thats just the repeat content on a slightly harder difficulty. and most ppl dont care for achievements. that stuff should be left specifically for inferno so while i level i want a feeling of progression with my skills, all skills shouldnt be based entirely on drops, thats another reason why they changed it. drops should add some variety to skills, not dictate the entire system.
