I'm trying to decide between that or the Razer Naga Epic (or one of the MMO mice that is less expensive).
I know there are a lot of threads about mice... but I thought I would start this new one because the HEX is specifically for A-RPG/MOBA style games. What do you guys think? Worth it?
I'm not sure that I see myself playing any MMO's anytime in the near future, so I think 6 buttons would be all that I need. 12 might be overkill... but I'd hate to spend $80 and then kick myself for not getting the MMO one down the road.
I mainly play MOBA, A-RPG, and FPS games. I'm currently playing LoL, BF3, and plan to play D3. I've been reading reviews that the Naga MMO mouse is terrible for FPS games because of all the buttons making it difficult for quick turns, so I'm starting to lean toward this new mouse that is coming out because I will be able to use it with D3 and for FPS.
Anyway... chat away. Add your 2c and lemme know what you think! I'm looking forward to the HEX being released so I can read some of the reviews before I make my decision, but thought I'd throw this out there ahead of time.
I just recently got the Steelseries Diablo 3 mouse, let me tell you it is awesome! I got the six programmable buttons definately helps in playing LoL and HoN and SC2, I haven't been given the chance to try out with Diablo yet but Im sure it won't let me down.
I have the naga, I DO NOT like the elite. Having the two buttons on the top LEFT side instead of the top middle IS A MASSIVE bonus.. its the ONLY reason I did not get the elite.
The reg naga I would suggest more than any other item I have ever suggested. It has been so useful for everything, not just gaming.
Dont let anyone tell you "Youll never need the 12 buttons on the side" cause once you have it, and program them for everything, You will never be able to live without it.

I was debating that mouse... but it's ambidextrous. How do you like the fit in your hand? I like how my Logitech is shaped to my hand and am hesitant to buy something online that I haven't tried out.

Thanks for the input, Molster. I have read that negative review regarding the elite; many have complained about the positioning of those two buttons. Actually... I just looked and the HEX has the exact same design with the forward/back in the middle =/
Do you play FPS games? If so, do you find the mass amount of buttons a nuisance?

no, find them even more helpful.
You wont even notice them tbh. your hand still fits comfortably over it. You can also hotkey all the weapons/melee to those buttons on the side.
When your not playing a game, you can use the software to link those buttons to commands, like opening a browser..ect
if you use steam for some FPS (like CS or TF2, you can see the steam commands to it)
But they have never got in my way.
It does take some use getting use to them, teaching your thumb which buttons is which.
It comes with these stickers you can put on them, I thought it was the dumbest thing, but I did it anyway.. it really does teach your thumb which buttons are which.. so I would recommend using those, even tho it seems silly.
I really have had no downside to this mouse. I was using a wireless for the longest time before it...and was sorta worried about the wire (was like I said, I liked the reg naga due to the placement of those two buttons) and in all honesty, the wire has not bugged me either (I use a laptop mostly as well)
I THINK (its been awhile since I installed the software. dont think I have it installed on this laptop) but you can also set the side buttons to work with the DPI of the mouse? that might be epic only (not sure) but.. I think the reg can do that as well. Which is great for FPS as well
by side buttons you mean the two front ones? no you still need to use your other finger from them..
i forgot to say, even on the regular, they are kind of tilted to the side, they take a LITTLE bit more work than a normal mouses button 4 and 5. but they are still x10 easier to click on the naga VS the naga epic.
But yeah, your thumb def can not reach those two, but it can each the side 1-9 easily, and the 10-12 is a little bit of a reach (usually use them for my CD's) (err not a reach.. a bend =P )
Yes, those two in the front. Hmm not sure how often I would use those two being awkwardly placed next to the pointer finger. I would probably program 2 & 5 to navigate forward/back in a webpage. I was actually thinking I would do that as well with the HEX. Programming 2 & 6 as front/back due to the nuisance to hit the middle buttons. Decisions decisions.
Anyone have experiences with mouse pads? I've never owned one and have always just used tabletops, but if I get a new mouse I'm thinking the mousepad might help to make it last as long as possible. Thinking about even the Barbarian Steelseries mousepad.
for mousepac i use a Steelseries Qck its pretty good and the price is right
Logitech MX518 is what I use right now. I love it, but I honestly feel that people with better mice have the upper hand due to their ability to macro so easily to the touch of a finger. I remember WoW PvP being a NIGHTMARE having CTRL- binds as well as ALT-binds for my tons of skills/macros on my Death Knight.
I never understood why people need these kinds of mice. I guess it's fun to try new things? I bought a pricey gigantic kode5 mousepad once for the novelty factor. I'm a big MOBA guy. but the only problem I have with controls in DotA 2 is how its a major pain to bind Mouse_3, not me having an uber mouse.
I could understand why maybe a hardcore WoW healer player could use one of these things like the Naga Epic, but in other games? It doesn't necessarily increase your apm or improve your micro.
Edit - To answer the op, it's mostly what the others have said. Shape is the real deciding factor. Personally I think any mouse with Mouse_4 and Mouse_5 will be sufficient for any game, but this "Hex" would be fine for DotA 2, LoL, Diablo 3 and some other games. So expensive though. I'm happy with my microsoft mice. Each one lasts me at least 4 years, unlike other garbage like headsets and other stuff.

Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!

Trust me, I share your sentiments about the pricing, etc. But I really feel as though my Logitech is on its way out... it's 7 years old and while I have a good job I'd like to upgrade a few key pieces of my gaming kit before I go to med school. I'm looking for something that will last a while but also be good for gaming. The Razer series has really sparked my interest, so I'm willing to spend that extra cash. My friend has a Naga and swears by it.
As someone in the beta, i've had a few thoughts about mice and how they could help D3. Personally, i dont know why the "official" D3 mouse was designed the way it was. A 2 button mouse seems a bit restricting due to how one plays the game. What i mean is, when you play, you are using M1, M2, 1,2,3,4, and 5 almost constantly, and M1, M2,1,2,3,4 all share the same function, so why not put all 6 keys on the official mouse?
Probably because they didn't know how the skills would work when the mouse was designed.
Point being, i wouldn't reccomend the official mouse, but rather one like the naga with more buttons. You'll use all of em, unless they make any major changes to how skills are used.
I have the razor naga and the razor naga epic, and personally I'd go with the epic over anything i've seen so far, even the hex. The 12 buttons are really easy to learn, and having your 1-12 mapped out by your thumb is immensely awesome =D Not to mention the wireless / wired moded, the awesome charging stand that shows off your mouse, and the ability to change the color to anything on the spectrum, even in between colors. (Or you can change it to constantly cycle through all the colors)
It's the best mouse I own, and I completely recommend it to anyone who plays any video games =P (hell I even use it on CoD, so much easier to hit the grenade button while still firing and moving )
Edit: As far as the two extra buttons right below the mouse wheel, I have to disagree with Molster; I love them being there, it was way to hard to try and hit those side buttons, while still spamming the 1-12 and the left and right click =D
17 buttons
every color on the spectrum
wireless
wired
Razor, imo one of the top respected gaming companies
I've had my original naga for over two years, used while raiding every week, hasn't broken down at ALL, even when I spilled beer on it.
It's extremely versatile; For instance in an MMO, while you're taking your hand off your movement keys to hit a keybind, i'm moving, clicking left and right mb, and hitting every keybind with my thumb faster than you ever could on a keyboard.
Just because you don't have the money for one, doesn't mean it's bad.

lol, Mr Skill Gates here thinks he is rich cuz he wasted $60 on a mouse.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!

I'll just stick to my $10 Logicrap mouse, it's done me well the past few years

Yea, I have a Logitech that I've had for 7 years now that has done just fine, but I'd really like to upgrade to something more competitive.
