What are we just copy threads directly from the D3 forums now?
If you don't like a viral meme don't use it, the more people that pay it no attention the faster it dies.
Sorted
I'll quote a post from the original thread in the official forums.
its animated and not live action, hence toon.
people will use toon forever /thread
Not that I agree with it, but it's pretty much the truth.
After responding, I checked, and as far as I can tell it comes from Microsoft Comic Chat in 1996 where people started referring to their personas as Cartoon Avatars, since they were literally cartoons as from a comic strip.
Hm, I guess the forums are for posting your opinions and discussing them. So, good on you OP. You don't like toon, we understand and are glad that you'll be using another shorthand name for your in-game characters.
I think I'll call my in-game characters BAMF's. Seems appropriate.

That does seem like a fitting term to use for the types of characters we'll supposedly have in D3, yeah.
Toon just refers to an animated character. Even if diablo isn't for little kids, it's still a game with a bunch of little animated characters running around. Just stop thinking of things like Toontown Online when you hear the word "Toon."
I admit the use of "Toon" irretates the FUCK outta me, and I probably would say something about it if someone used the term when I played with them, But you know what? Who cares? Really? I mean, We'll all be knee deep in sweet ass loot, small things like this wont even matter.. Sure i'll comment on it, but i'll probably be commenting on it while smashing in the skulls of demons and potentially angels. I myself use "Char", or "hero" if it refers to the game, as well as "Champ" (Like LoL). I'm sure that bugs a small percentage of people just as well. Heres a nifty word you can learn, and one i'm trying to as well.. it's called "Adapt". Now spell that out and try it for yourself, your life would be SO much easier, trust me, i've been there buddy.
Char or Hero sound better.

But i use "char" anyway when im in portuguese forums. In english char already have a meaning so people try to avoid it i guess...
I'll let people decide for themselves if they want to use it, knowing that.

Can't understand why you care so much what other people care about. So much so that a lighthearted response was met with such a hostile one.

Oh, well it's just hard to tell sarcasm or jokes over being serious in only text. I have the same problem myself quite a lot.
My thoughts on the use of the word "toon" when describing your characters: Uh, who cares? It's a slang term that has become accepted. Moving on.
