I almost pissed my pants the vendor had a kings sword of haste in trist... then I didnt have enough to buy it... ahhh the days...
I saw the rumors in early 2008 that someone had purchased the rights to the web name diablo3.com .... thats when the excitement of this game started for me
I was running around on my barbarian in the d2 beta trying to find gems
Diablo 1: Who could forget the butcher and running behind a cage and shooting him with arrows.
Diablo 2: Sadly enough, I was in act 3 of playing with my first Barbarian in single player. I opened up my skills tab and realized...
I have 2 additional skill trees.... holy crap
I remember reading about this secret cow level and after getting all the materials ready I went in and opened it up. I wasn't prepared, and the mooing still haunts my every nightmare.
I remember the first time I installed Diablo and big D himself popped up and started laughing on the install screen. Then first getting in and running all around town trying to find where to go...of course then with Hellfire the monk. I loved the monks kick, I would play from start to end with him just kicking!
With Diablo 2 I explored every inch of every area of the game. Killed eveythibg that could be killed and opened every chest just to find all I could. To this day I still haven't found a full set of anything.
And now in the Diablo three beta the feel of getting to play back where I first started my love affair with the series. Its amazing
As others have said, The Butcher is something I'm not likely to forget anytime soon. I especially remember how happy I was when I discovered I could open the door to his chamber, cast wall of fire a bunch of times, then close the door and wait for him to die without any real risk.
My biggest diablo 2 memory would probably be the first time I got a hardcore character to Hell and then immediately died because I wasn't paying attention.
Another good one is the first time you face Duriel - I tried to find a way out so I could prepare - alas a big pile of gold popped on the floor instead LOL

Diablo 3: Jar of Souls, Den of the Fallen
The butcher was probably the mose scared i have ever been in this game - that extra speed - mowing you down - ahhhhhhhh! I truly truly hope we get the sh76 scared out of us this game when he pops up for the first time - that will make the game for me - and yes he should be super fast - and have that cleaver chop action right at your back as you run
I saw the Hellspawns for the first time. My first game booties. Seeing how i was 7 when the game came out my mom wasn't too thrilled but she got over it. Good times good times...
Played the hell out of D2, what sticks in my mind is the first time D clone first walked the earth in my game. Holy crap I nearly shit myself, running around like a chook with its head cut off, I was not prepared and he was kicking my ass. The 2nd was the Ubers, first time I went in I was just awed by the grand scale of the monsters and that it was completely impossible and beyond me to beat needless to say it was a great day on planet Earth when I got my first Torch.
All of you bring back so many memories.
I'm glad I got in the beta for D3.
I was debating about getting D2 (lost keys and disks long ago) again till D3 came out.
Gotta say my favorite time in D2 was the cow level on my sorc, loved my Ice Orbs.
the 1st time i walked out into the blood moor, i got chills right then and there, and then when i got to the barracks getting the horadric malus, boy talk about being chased, i think i ran back to the outer cloister a few times.
Diablo 1: Wirt would almost always have an item that was better than what I had equipped, and I would want to buy it so I wasted whatever gold I had
Diablo 2: Watching the cinematics after each Act, especially Acts 3 and 4 cinematic, (given that the time I first played this was at age 10) I thought they were the best ever, ... I still watch them and think they are priceless
I was going to say something about the butcher but given the volume of butcher related posts I'll go for something else that will give any diablo veterans a flashback, (Thick Scottish accent) "WELL WHAT CAN AH DO FAR YEEAH" Ya thats right Griswold, though we were forced to slay the pitiful shadow of his former self in Diablo 2, I cant think of the original without remembering Griswold's signature line.
Diablo 1: The Butcher, of course. The fear I first felt when I saw Diablo for the first time, and the immediate lack of fear that occurred when I stalled him out with my Rogue. Most importantly, the late, late nights when the lights were out, and I had my headphones on, being scared to death of the atmosphere.
Diablo 2: Multiplayer. Simple as that. So much fun running around Hell difficulty, avoiding MSLE mobs with resist lower aura of death. Good times.
Diablo 3: Well, I don't know yet. But I'm sure there will be many memories to have in this installment.
