We never said we're missing our new target. But no, we generally don't tell people anything about release targets because they tend to be reduced to screaming obscenities at us when we inevitably miss them, reminding us why we used to not tell anyone anything.
Again, right now, people are begging to know a release window. And we should update them so... they can be nasty and angry when we miss it again? I don't understand who benefits from that.
This post got me mystified.
Let me split it.

So it's still early 2012 which implies June 30th as worst case scenario. Still, this is what they are aiming for, not a target set in stone.

Inevitably? Why? It's a "must have" condition in development of games?
Also it was not me who claimed to be aiming for Q4 2011, it was Blizzard, as well as it was the very same Blizzard to release the "soon was too soon" stuff hinting to "early 2012" (whatever early means in Blizzard language)

Please someone tell this guy in his first statement he just gave us a RELEASE WINDOW.
I'll repeat myself: it was THEM who talked about Q4 2011 and "early 2012". They could have kept silent till 2011 and then announce they were working on D3, everybody would have been overjoyed.
I'm not angry about the changes, I've not played the beta let alone the whole game so I'm not qualified to talk about its features. I'm even willing to wait (as if I could do anything else...)
But I'm worried about the quality of the game and a bit pissed by the way they deal with us.
Not to sound like a pessimist, but he also didn't say the new target (early 2012) is still on...but I do get the feeling that he and/or blizz is still unsure about the early 2012 release window...
We'll just have to keep our eyes open for any twitter/battle.net postings for someone who's gonna ask the inevitable question: "Is early 2012 still on?!?!?!"
"early 2012 which implies June 30th as worst case"
If June implies anything, its mid-2012, not early. April is the last month if they manage to meet the timeframe of "early", and I have serious doubts they can make it. Several game cornerstone systems arent set in stone yet, balancing and re-itemization to follow, with extensive testing afterwards. How can they make it in April, let alone Q1?
Agree, but I was trying to be kind toward Blizzard, that's why I wrote "worst case scenario".
I doubt even them would dare say "early 2012" means "July or later" but you never know.
Also I want to point out again that they never said they'll release the game but that they will try to.
It's just that Blizz PR handling skill seems to be very very VERY lame, maybe they didn't find the right runestone yet...
@JaundiceBunny: asked it myself (as well as many other fans), waiting for a reply....soontm
You can divide a year up into as many portions as you want. Early, middle, late. or: Very early, early, early mid, mid late mid, early late, mid late..., and who knows how blizzard does it. Basically, the best we have is 2012 sometime.

No matter how you divide it, 5 ealries, 10 earlies...ect, you will always have a middle and the same amount of "lates" in this division, thus it can never pass a point, so we do know where early stands compared to "just 2012"
And I 100% know what he's saying, and it's what I always reply to people with, almost all game companies miss windows... We never know because none of them bother to tell us like blizz does on these early ones. Blizzard use to give even more details than "early 2012" but people think they know everything about dev and just qq'ed like no tomorrow, and that's why they don't anymore.
I'm not a fan of that, I hate when the few ruin it for the many, but that's what happens. We will know 100% for sure if it's still on for early come feb 9th, if they say " when its ready" or anything else, it means they don't know if they can make that, so feb 9th ( or earlier if they make a blog about it ) will be when we know for sure
There's absolutely no excuse for actually making a thread to dissect and play detective every sentence from a blue poster. It's borderline sad.
If anything you can just summarize it; "Why on Earth would we tell you guys a release date when we don't know if we can make it? If we tell you and then miss it, you will rage. And you will actually feel worse than if we didn't tell you anything at all. Instead we are only going to tell you an actual date in time, when we know for sure we can make it."

That's because he IS unsure about the date. And so is the rest of Blizzard. It's a window, not a date, and projected target.
@Snaks42: I think I'm misinterpreting your reply OR my post was (once again) badly written.
If so, I apologize in advance.
I'm not complaining about delays here, I stated twice that they NEVER told us an official release date, just hinted at what their goal MAY BE.
I also pointed out that I'm not qualified to criticize the changes.
But since Bashiok WILLINGLY posted those words, I can read them and form my own opinion.
I don't play detective, it just seemed to me that it would made my point more clear if I split it up, and you can see that I've put his whole post in the beginning.
HE wrote they never said they'll miss their target so giving us a possible release window and soon after HE wrote they are not going to give us release windows.
Can I at least criticize Blizzard Public Relations? Or is it forbidden?
What pisses me off the most about the devs in general, is they act like the comments on the internet hurt. It's quite comical for Bashiok, Ghostcrawler, or whoever, to QQ over being called bullshitters, which they are, in my eyes.
Look, you're in a business where you service angsty teens and young adults, craving for more crack, and when you don't deliver, how do you expect them to act?
Quit giving windows, projections, time-lines, or what have you. I respect the Soon™ a hell of a lot more, then any missed window. I'm sure others feel the same.
EDIT for additional comments:
@Snaks42
Why do the devs care if the players rage? Let them rage, trying to imply the devs are scared of the customer, that it's somehow the customers fault, is a serious case of disillusion.
These devs have a job to do, we the customers are the boss, and they are acting like a child with a skint knee, when we yell at them. Grow up.
As much as it sucks to wait and have no release date or window, its better this way to get a good or even excellent game. I've worked in the industry for the last 13 years, for 2 companies that do announce release dates, in some case it was picked up before production even began... and what happens? bug filled games... removing features because it created too many bugs... employees pissed off by the overtime needed to make the date knowing the product wasn't to their likings or standards.
I'm in there with the other addicted Diablo fans ever since I tried Diablo 1 for the first time, but... we have to be patient and trust their judgement. To me, they could have waited till 2010 to announce instead of 2008 and we would be less pissed about it ;p
Also, just put yourselves in a blue's shoes, whatever words you are going to use will be analysed and people will attempt to decipher "hidden messages" no matter how you say it. I'm sure they want nothing more than to enlighten us on a personal level, but on a professional level if they want to keep their jobs, they have to keep us in the dark.
anyway, not sure why I'm sharing ... Have a good one !
