So somehow around my 15,000th push of the F5 key in my browser as I await, among all of you, Closed Beta....
I thought to myself there has to be something I can do to get my mind somewhere else to pass the time (actually doing work at work just sounds silly to me at a time like this)
SO. With the confirmed expansion we are getting for D3, I couldnt help but to think of what the new class(es) will be... my thoughts..
Druid?? (BOOMKINS BLIZZ YOU WONT, YOU WONT!!)
Pally?
Necro/Warlock but meh, thats what I feel like we have a WD for
Some kind of elemental/ shaman? Totems could be cool
Hero class? No DKs plz & thx
We already got a pure caster, pure melee, ranged/physical, and whatever you wanna call a monk. What playstyle do you all think will be missing?
I wish that if you were posting in threads as they were getting moved that your post would still complet successfully..... lol
But ya, the only archetypes I see as being missing are maybe a partial caster hybrid like a mystic warrior or an arcane archer... a natural summoner/caster hybrid like a druid or shaman...
We aren't sure how the story will unfold but we could see some kind of angel and or demon class.
I would like to see a shape shifter like to Druid to return. Apart from the Druid, there are demons that are able to shape shift in the Diablo universe.
A Shapeshifter is the missing link, indeed. Also there isn't a Tinkerer but Diablo doesn't really have any steampunk in it, so that goes away. Although the DH does employ some sorts of traps... there might be some ideas to it, but D2 purists will absolutely destroy the idea. "GADGETS IN MY GAME?! THIS ISN'T ARCANUM!"
The only thing I could think of is a battle-mage type class like the Shaman in WoW or the Cleric in Rift or something akin to that. A class that fights both with magic and melee.

That sounds too much like the Paladin aka the Monk. Melee, has healing, wields the elements.
Well the Paladin was either melee or caster in D2 and I haven't watched the videos of the Monk so I cannot comment on that.
However, I mean something that wields like a big 2h or a mace and shield and casts magic from a distance and at point blank. Kinda like a combination of the Wizard and the Barbarian.
I would just really like to see a shield class.
I know, all classes in D3 can wear a shield, but none of them actually 'use' the shield. Wizard and Witch Doctor uses orbs and fetishes. Monks will rarely need a shield, they mostly need staff or two handed attacks. Demon Hunter focuses on ranged. Barbarian will probably have the most shield wearers, but the class is mostly focused on two weapon or two handed bashing.
No, I'd like a paladin type class that actually utilizes his shield, but they can make it a bit more interesting.
Here's a unique idea for you, how about a class that can dual wield shields. He can bounce them off of enemies like Captain America, or bash and charge the living hell out of them. They can get like crazy defense bonuses, and even get spiked shields. They turn defense into offense.
Maybe not, however, I would like to see a sword and shield type of crusader class somewhere down the line.
I would like to see an enchanter or something like that. Which could buff friendly targets and debuff monsters, without any healing spell or a increase xx% heal received buff.
I would'nt like to see a shield class based as someone said, we have the barb which can hold a shield, the barb has a tons of spells that regens or steal life, he can ''aggro'' monsters, increase his armor and stuff.
As some of you have said a class specializing in shields is missing. A darker themed knight using shields and something like curses/blood spells could be fitting.
The ranged class could be a mix of the amazon/druid. Using throwing weapons, poisons, snares etc. and maybe even have ONE chosen pet (bear, wolf, tiger etc) up at all times.
Me and wife came up with an interesting idea about a possible future class, that some of you may dislike out of... erm, some form of fanboysm I suppose.
What if they add the next best thing to a Paladin - a Fallen Angel. There might have been quite a lot that supported Tyrael on his actions and could be sent down from the Heavens as punishment, stripped from the majority of their powers. They wouldn't pick a side (Heaven <-> Hell), since they were forsaken from above and hated below, just like Izual was, though he was so twisted he barely had any sanity left. What they have left? A sense of justice, just like their legendary leader - Tyrael.
They fit pretty perfectly in my opinion, having a lot of similarities to Paladins. Sword/Scepter/Mace and Shield use, Holy spells, a bit of healing and so forth.
They won't have wings or things like that, but there's plenty of ideas of angel armors to be had. And all of them will likely have their faces still hidden, as they're still beings of light and sound.
I'd really like to see a darker class like the necromancer. I know the demon hunter is kind of like a dark class, and the necro really wasn't as morbid as I imagined him to be, but something like a dark knight that Hycoolio suggested or like a death mage like Procylon suggested would be awesome.

My place really was here. I was too foolish and stubborn to notice. But, what I truly hoped for then was here. Why do I always realize it When I've already lost it.
We already got a pure caster, pure melee, ranged/physical, and whatever you wanna call a monk. What playstyle do you all think will be missing?
We'll need another melee type definitely. Right now there are 3 ranged classes and then the Monk/Barb. The Barb is pure melee and the Monk is the "hybrid" melee (akin to a Paladin) so what other types of melee are there?
How about a melee pet class? We have the Witch Doctor which is the caster pet class for the most part (lots of summoning of things) but he's not an actual, all out pet dependent class.
I'm thinking something like the Beast Lord from Everquest. He was in-your-face melee with a pet and a few nature spells (very short range). So something along those lines would be a good addition and balance things out archetype-wise in Diablo 3.
I can think of all kinds of ways to make the pet prominent so it really means something and the Beast Lord doesn't become just a Bard with a pet. The pet would never have to be summoned either since Skill Slots are extremely precious in D3 and it seems unfair to have a full on pet class lose a slot to summoning his pet. So when the pet dies it will automatically resurrect after X seconds OR when the Beast Lord's resource becomes full either from generating it via skills or passively regenerating it. Now, onto some specifics.
The Beast Lord uses Nature Power (can't think of anything cooler, lol) with a starting cap of 100. It regenerates slightly faster than Discipline does now for the DH, which isn't that fast. All Physical attacks generate Nature Power and all Nature/Pet skills use it.
He will have 3 Skill types like most other classes. They will be...
Beast - physical melee Nature - Poison damage skills, mostly melee with some very short ranged skills also Animal Instincts - skills pertaining to the pet
Some examples below.
Animal Instincts type skill - A self buff...
One With Nature -Lvl 1 Skill Costs 50 Nature Power - 60 Second Cooldown - Lasts 120 Seconds
For every 5 damage your pet takes you receive +1% physical damage which stacks up to 25% and lasts for 10 seconds. Also, when your pet goes below 25% health, you become enraged for 8 seconds, increasing movement speed by 20% and Poison Damage by 50%.
Beast type skill - A physical damage (mainly) melee attack...
Beastly Strike -Lvl 1 Skill Generates 5 Nature Power
Deals 100% of Weapon Damage to the closest 3 enemies in front of you. Deals another 1% of Weapon Damage as Poison Damage for every 2 Nature Power you have.
So the best case scenario would be, with a full pool of Nature Power, you do 100% of Weapon damage to 3 enemies and then 50% of Weapon Damage as Poison Damage to them also.
Nature type skill - A poison damage melee attack...
Venomous Cloud -Lvl 2 Skill Costs 10 Nature Power - 6 Second Cooldown
You emit a cloud containing gaseous venom that infects all targets within 12 yards of you. The infected targets have +20% chance to receive a critical strike and +20% damage from your Pets abilities.
Animal Instincts type skill - A utility/mobility/defensive/offensive move all in one! (kinda silly but fun)...
Spirit Walker -Lvl 4 Skill Costs 15 Nature Power - 15 Second Cooldown
You enter the spirit world and your body becomes ethereal, making you immune to all damage for 5 seconds. During this time you take control of the spirit within your beast pet. Your pets movement speed is increased by 100% during this time.
Wherever your pet is when the 5 seconds is up, your body will become corporeal at this location and deal 100% of Weapon Damage as Physical Damage and 100% of Weapon Damage as Poison Damage to all enemies with 7 yards.
Well, I had fun writing this and hopefully some of you find it interesting, the idea of a melee pet class focused MAINLY on melee attacks with a dash of nature/poison stuff going on and a BIG emphasis on the pet itself.
That last ability I listed was a little nuts but it was fun to think about! I was trying to make a point that this class would really play off of the pet, where the pet is, what damage it's taking, stuff like that. Those things would be important to the player in deciding what skills to use (my pet is doing X so I should do Y. I just made my Pet do Z so that means I should do X next, etc).
The problem with a fallen angel class is that it would be unlike any other class in one core point, it isn't human. Every other class is human and is fighting for the existence of humanity. What's the point of the fallen angel fighting along side these humans to save them? The fallen angel would more likely turn into something like Izual.
And also Radacci made a very good point on the Paladin and Rogue. They are already in the game, just not as playable characters.

The reason why Fallen Angels would like to fight for Sanctuary is because, as I said, they followed Tyrael's decision, which was a decision to do exactly that - save Sanctuary. As I mentioned their purpose is justice, and the people of Sanctuary are innocent. The FA know why they have been forsaken from the Heavens and have no grudge against the Council's decision, but if the Council itself decides to intervene than that makes them enemy. For Sanctuary is created to be a free place. Or at least that's how I understand it.

Maybe a SS that takes the role of the knight? Who knows
D3 character are really complete, there isn't anything to add...
I can only think of 3 things:
* Shapeshifting
* Rally heavy summon focus
Seriusly... D3's classes are so well done that i think it's impossible to creat a another 1 or 2 of the same quality.
Ha. Bagstone.
However, I mean something that wields like a big 2h or a mace and shield and casts magic from a distance and at point blank. Kinda like a combination of the Wizard and the Barbarian.
Druid. Fills the role of Shapeshifter, as well as being life/growth oriented which would be completely unique with the current lineup.
Assassin. More about dual daggers, stealth, and backstabbing. Maybe more traps than the DH.
Spearzon.
Death Mage. Doesn't have to be a "Necromancer", but far more Death oriented than the WD. Maybe call it the Lich class.
Illusionist.
Pyromancer. Lets face it, the wizard doesn't have enough fire.
