Will it at least be as hard as diablo 2? I dont want them foam padding the game just so more noobs can enjoy it, in fact, it should be a little harder than diablo 2 in some cases, I dont want to play levels 1-30 and go,hey, I didnt die did I? guess il go do hardcore.
No, I want my first death at least by level 6, none of this dont kill the player @#$$@@, make the monsters some mean rip your head off baddies, part of the fun is that it is challenging, but not too frustrating, make me feel intimidated by big giants, and fast moving critters with claws, not just, oh here comes more fodder,
this may seem like a strange request being you wont be able to chug health potions like before, but at the same time this is part of what is driving my concern, if you cant heal as fast you probably have to tone it down a bit, so balance here to still keep it challenging might be a bit tricky.
Ophion, 'im starting to agree with almost every single post of yours XD
But i still think Normal should be a little more entertaining. Dont forget that rushs will not be so easy in D3.. So whenever you start a new character you will have to pass like 2 hours in retard mode >_>
"Easy" (relative term, some parts will probably still be somewhat challenging, I for example died a lot in the Catacombs/at Andariel in D2 :D) and boring are not the same things Bashiok (or Jay, I don't remember) said that they want to give us alternatives for when we just want to get to Hell quickly, but they hadn't decided on the actual system yet. They understand that making characters is the focus, not doing quests and running through the maps. But on the other hand they can't just let us skip the quests because that wouldn't make much sense story wise (you have to kill Andy in D2 to get to Act 2, for example, they can't just cut that part out imo). I wonder what they will come up with.
I don't know from where did you get this from. Imo, putting together all the info we have abaout D3, my conclusion is the oposite.
For exemple, they have limited a couple of character build features just to improve the balance of the game and make play the game itself, not only planing your character, fun. The autostats limitation, the lack of weapon switch and the weapon limit for classes are good exemples.
Only if normal is somewhat fun.
They said it was going to be at least equal than diablo 2 concerning dificulty, although, I think Bashiok said that they didn't want to make it too hard so everyone can get through the game.. I feel it's going to be too easy lol

I doubt blizzard will manage to make rushs harder. After you get to know how the acts work, optimal build, uber gear, people will rush as easily as it was in D2.
Maybe if they drastically reduce the exp low levels get from monsters in hell difficulty, that would force people to actually play through the game, but i dunno if thats the best solution..

D2 is already ridiculously easy, so expect D3 to be at least on that level.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.

Let's stop there.
1. It doesn't matter how well you know the acts, you will almost certainly not be able to leech from high levels in Hell. You have to do the killing yourself in a lower difficulty, and the adventure areas will probably be the best way to do that. And guess what, they are randomly generated so there is no way to know how they work.
2. This is not D2, there won't be any build with a vast advantage over the others. Besides, how does knowing the optimal build help you if you want to try another?
3. How does uber gear help you when you aren't even in Hell?
(now comes some more general stuff)
4. There are no town portals, meaning that you must follow a high level char around if you for some reason want to get to the higher acts quicker.
5. If it works like in D2, then you will get less experience for following high levels around. Having them kill in the zone that is currently optimal for you might actually make you level more slowly than if you would do it yourself.
6. There will probably be a level difference cap that prevents enemies of too high level from giving you experience.
1. I addressed that in the same message you quoted (partially quoted). I'm not quite sure what is that ''adventure area'', could you link it, please? Anyway, all the areas in D2 were also randomly generated (*cough* Kurast *cough*) but that didn't prevent people from rushing, did it?
2. It will, trust me on this. I mentioned with the rusher in mind.
3. Again, i was talking about the rusher, best skills, best items = fast rush.
4. Yet again i was talking about the rusher, killing everything and the others following. (alright, alright, it wont be as effective as D2, but still, it's a rush)
5. Well, I'm not sure how D2 is running this days, last i played low levels did get less exp from leech, but still, you could get at least 15 levels from single hell cowlvl, fun times!
6. Same as number 1, i mentioned in my post, but you didn't quoted.

But is that official? Blizzard will limit experience? For ladder it would be great, no more instant hell and grinding nonstop.
But other than that, i dunno, i mean, i had a shitload of chars in D2, all of then were rushed of course. If i had to go through normal, nightmare, and hell (3 kurast flails, dear lord) all over again, i would probably just stick with 3 or 4.
It will be one of those ''love/hate'' things, we will just have to wait and see.

The porpose of the adventure areas is to remove us from playing the same maps and doing the same quests and facing the same enemies, all the f**ing time. Thereby they take the focus away from doing specific quests and running through maps, and replaces it by doing adventures in dungeon like environments. The end purpose is to allow us to have fun while we level up our characters. Diablo is an item rpg; item being the strong focus on what equipment you have, rpg being the strong focus on leveling up your character. The leveling part was very bad in D2 and they have fixed it now in D3. They took away the focus on doing quests/running through maps and thereby got rid of the things that prevented the primary focus from shining: character development, something that was extremely boring to do in D2 and made everyone rush.
I don't agree the reason why ppl rush in D2 is because it was boring to play the normal game. I've played the SP a thousant times and building up your character is not boring.
Hell is extremely challenging, the monsters characteristics becomes evident, and the super unics makes the runs totally random !
But imo the game only start to become fun at nightmare end of act 3. Before that the game is ridicolously easy... Sometimes i played poker (4 rooms) and diablo at the same time w/o loosing money ROFL.
Theres no town portals?!!?!!!!?!?!???!!??!?!!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I have not heard this, please tell me that was speculation, on top of the 4 player cap you cant send a tp to co op? WTF?
I wanted it to be hard, but not like that.....
That is the stupidest thing ive ever heard.
*Player enters game*
"Hi, where ya at?"
"Level 4 catacombs, you?"
"Oh, im in level 1 catacombs wp, guess il see you around then, and GL"
a player's tendency is to follow the path of least resistance. We learned this in World of Warcraft, if you make the fastest way to level killing boars until your eyes bleed, then that's what players will do. They won't do the most fun thing. They'll do what gets them progression the fastest. So we put in this massive quest system, it's a ton of work, but what it does is, it says, go kill some dudes over there, run over there, grab me three of those things, do this thing over here. When the player's always doing something different, the game stays fresh, it stays fun to play for a long time.
So the most rewarding way to play is through questing, but this time it will be more variety, perhaps even randomized.
You just found the quote i was looking for. The fastest way to level up is questing. "go kill some dudes over there, run over there, grab me three of those things, do this thing over here". This is execly like mmorpgs leveling.
In other words, your character has a main quest wich will problably be required to advance in the game and a thousant side quests that will help you level faster and get some rewards. All i hope is that those level quests have some challenge involved.
Normal = Diablo 2 nightmare difficulty (based on SP, so, no runewords involved!)
Nightmare = Diablo 1 difficulty
Hell = Diablo 2 Hell difficulty (based on SP, so, no runewords involved!)
