I really appreciate all of the wizards who tirelessly theorycraft and mine information for the rest of us weekend warriors. Im a FB Wizard (who isnt) that has cleared Grift31 and I notice the jump from 31 to 32 seems insane. I think I could make some progress if I understood a few mechanics that are hard to research for myself, so I thought I would ask the community to see if anyone knows. I apologize if this has been answered already and I just missed it.
1) Firebird "Snapshot"
I noticed people using the word "snapshot" and I am taking that to mean that when our damage hits the special 3000% weapon damage, it applies the endless burn, it will apply anything else that is associated with that. So that means that if the moment the debuff goes permanent, you happen to have a spellsteal buff up, it will apply with the permanent dot. Is this correct? Do we want to get 2800% weapon damage and then dump a bunch of buffs and debuffs onto the Mob so they all stick? Does it ever refresh? Is there a way to know when youre getting close to that threshold if it does matter?
2) Buffs and Debuffs
If I have a Hydra down and I pop spellsteal BH, will the hydra start doing more damage based on my buff or do I need to cast it again? If I do cast it again, will that hydra keep the buff even after the 5 second window is gone?
3) Elemental Exposure
Does elemental damage provided by my companion count (im guessing no)
Well, nitpicking, you're not going to run Spellsteal with a Firebird wizard anyway. You'd run Blazar.
1. Well, again you're not going to be running Spellsteal. If you do, you will have a much, much more difficult time reaching the infinite DoT. But yes, you can snapshot Spellsteal, but you're likely going to have Spellsteal drop off before you reach the infinite DoT for your build (especially against moving targets and your Hydras cannot sustain damage 100%). Some buffs can be snapshot, others cannot and will update your damage dynamically.
2. Hydras snapshot your buffs not called Hexing Pants (amongst those that dynamically adjust your damage). Again, you won't be using Spellsteal.
I'm running firebirds have noticed that I don't get yellow crit numbers with Blizzard(apocalypse) and Hydra with a crit chance of 50%. Anyone else notice that or am I just bugged? The firebird 3000% also isn't critting.

DoT damage is rolled into a single damage number, crit chance and damage DO affect how large this number can be. but you will not see yellow(crit) numbers from it because of the roll effect.
DoT attacks, Do not show crits (yellow numbers) because it is a flat rate amount of damage.
Technically Blizzard and Hydras do crit, but will still never display as yellow numbers, while the firebird dot truly doesn't crit but jsut gets a %buff from your CC and CD.
This can be seen on the level of each time a monster's health changes with a mindmg=maxdmg testing set-up. While most of the time there isn't a functional difference, it will mean that some blizzard ot hydra ticks will vary from one another, but the firebird dot itself will stay constant unless you're altering buffs in real-time (like zei''s, audacity, or trapped).
