So, Gem of Efficacious Toxin states: "Poisons all enemies hit for 10 seconds" - my question is, is this reapplied every time a dot tics? The first time it goes off? or never? I unfortunately don't have Firebird's yet, and I'm working on my DH.
Im trying to work out what sort of damage this gem actually does as I have an non socketed RoRG with better stats CD and higher int which I think pushes up my max DOT damage on leets.
Short story the gem adds 200% weapon damage per second to your damage output at level 1, +4% per gem level.
So if your "baseline" weapon damage is, for instance, 1000% weapon damage per second you'll get +20% total DPS out of the gem at rank 1. Pets don;t apply Toxin form what I've seen. The only gem I've read pets applying other than hoarder (and generic damage boost gems) is the bleed gem.

what sort of numbers are we talking. i.e. actual damage on a mob/leet?
"Sorts of numbers" are completely dependent on what your damage is. If your weapon deal 2000 damage a hit you'd get 4000 damage per second. If your weapon deals 200000 damage per hit you'd get 400000 damage per second.
Look at your primary attack. Take a few swings with it, look at the numbers. See what your damage % is on that attack? Divide it by 200% then divide whatever damage numbers you deal with that attack by the number you get.
Main attack is 400% weapon damage? Divide by 200% you get 2. Divide the damage you deal with that attack by 2. That's the DoT damage you'd deal per second. I can't just magically know what damage you deal and tell you what the gem would do. Not psychic.
The gem becomes worthwhile if you level it up some. I rerolled 18% firedmg (roughly 11% dmg loss on my current gear) from my amulet to a socket for using the toxin gem. I noticed a dmg drop, but invisble mobs can be detected by the green slither plus if a monster runs out of your aoe area it will still continue to take damage.
I leveld it to 20 and the gem starts to get my damage back on a level it once was. However, one question remain: Does the toxin gem trigger itself and apply the 10% debuff as well even if I don't use any poison damage spells?

Gem poisons enemies. Poisoned enemies takes additional damage... Does it need more explanation? Are you serious? It doesnt say anthing about "poison damage" just poisoning. Kappa.
Im using the gem and in my experience it doesnt refresh itself and any kind of damage that is abler to trigger anything, does trigger the poison effect.
So if ur using black hole for example, it does apply the gem toxin.

Firebird DoTs don't trigger the poison. Your spells do. However, a spell with 0 proc coefficient will not, e.g. Hydra.
The poison DoT does not stack with itself. The 10-second duration will just refresh when you cast another spell and reapply the debuff.
