Well a blue post said that it was fixed however sometimes my dot is capping out at 9.2 mil instead of its usual 70ish mil. Am I missing some sort of new mechanic they put in place? It doesn't feel like it did in the PTR.

It's bugged. STILL bugged. QA likely didn't even bother to check it. There's a vid on Youtube showing it ticking for 300% weapon damage instead of 3000% post-fix.
Well, this sucks. Really wanted to start GRifting with my favorite FB + MM + Hydra build, but with 2 out of 3 components of the build being broken I guess that's not gonna happen.
Yeah I barely made it past GR28 RG because I was stuck with a 9mil dot. I'm probably not gonna progress until it gets fixed, and if it doesn't I think this'll be the ending point for my wizard.
I think the sneaky changes they did to Firebird's 6pc when it went live takes the target's full mitigation into its damage calculations. That is wrong. It should do the full damage (3000% wpn dmg per second) once it becomes fully stacked and infinite. That damage number should always be the same from monster to monster, regardless of their toughness.
That is not what we are experiencing right now. Blizz should stop relying so much on their internal QA department and listen to their real testers: us, the players.
"Thanks, guys! We tested the issue again, and discovered the 6-piece set bonus is incorrectly basing its damage off of whether or not the first ability cast to trigger it was a critical hit or not. While we unfortunately don’t have an ETA on when this will be fixed, our goal is to address it as soon as possible. Thanks for helping us catch it!"

Is someone able to explain (in somewhat simple terms as this set bonus confuses the crap out of me for some reason) what causes the dot ticks to vary so much when it's already stacked?
For example I just killed a t6 elite pack and the dot ticked for 42mil a couple times went upto 79mil for a tick then back to 53mil, I'm not using the +dmg on distance gem and nothing changed buff wise during the fight.
This set is basically the only thing keeping me on wiz but it's starting to confuse the heck out of me with it's almost unreliable damage and just wondering if it's something I'm doing wrong or what.
Edit: Just adding that I am not using audacity while trying to figure out the damage of the set for me.
@Felk Late reply (been playing seasons) but thought I had better say thanks for clearing it up for me, appreciate it, the varying damage on what I was assuming was JUST the dot was confusing me but this makes sense.
Guys I don't play D3 that much, just casually running rifts and bounties here and there and don't minmax that much. I just took a look at top 100 wizards on Leaderboards (Grifts), and they are literally all the same. Everyone's using Furnace 2-H mace and a FF set. And the same exact build. I just wanted to know are there any build/items variety at all, or anyone who wants to be viable pretty much forced to play that one build and items setup? I mean, it's a bit depressing if it's true...
I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm sure there are other builds to use, just seems that most people are not willing to experiment and find their own, and with new legends every season I see sets and such coming to help build diversity

There are 2 things to consider:
1)The number of players is gigantic. The difference between the best and the second best setup may be as small as 1%, there'd still be enough players using the best setup to claim all spots on the leaderboard.
2)Players tend to copy what they see on these leaderboards. So the amount of players using this setup grows every day until someone figures something out on his own.
Blizzard might dream of the top 5 on any given leaderboard consisting of 5 totally different setups, but in reality, such balance is probably not possible. Maybe these leaderboards even end up being considered a shot in the foot by Blizz because they have lowered build diversity (see no. 2).
Diablo customer service.
great patch so far

So atleast we know they are now aware of it.
