If you want to use Archon (of course you do, you have the Vyr set), you need CDR or it's simply not worth having the skill on your bar.
Weapon - up to 10%
Source - up to 8%
Helm - gem up to 12.5%
Shoulders - up to 8%
Gloves - up to 8%
Amulet - up to 8%
Rings - up to 8%
Capt. Crimson 2-piece bonus - 10%
Born's 3-piece bonus - 10%
Evocation - 20%
Paragon points - 10%
Total max CDR value - approx. 72% or approximately 28 seconds for Archon to cool down (or 8 second waiting period outside Archon form).
Empowered Shrine would put CDR at ~86% or 14 seconds for Archon to cool down, or basically true perma-Archon.
In case you care, here is my rank of most ideal to least ideal slot for putting on CDR, that's only if you don't plan to put CDR on all of them though.
So what's the concensus on max CDR rolls? I hear many different stories of it being not T5/6 viable, but there are those who swear by it (Goodideagaming is probably one of them)
On one hand, going for max CDR rolls would mean you sacrifice a lot of DPS/survivability stats. On the other hand, the increased uptime for Archon should theoretically make up for that in some amount.
Anyone here who has tried both? Overall, what is better from a strict effectiveness point-of-view? (I know perma-Archon is fun as heck, but sometimes people have to bite the bullet and go with a build that is less fun but more face-smashy)
I think a little bit of CDR on the slots where it doesn't hurt is fine. You can get to 46.68% by just using Evocation, Paragon, diamond in helmet, shoulders, and offhand. That means your Archon will be up for almost 40% of the time you're playing. The remaining slots are really difficult to get (Vyr gloves with int, CHD, CC, and CDR are insanely difficult to get, I've yet to see them) or not worth it (jewelry I personally wouldn't go for it). Captain Crimson's is impossible because of Vyr, Born's is in my opinion not worth it as it means giving up Tal's chest and Aughild's shoulders, both not desirable. And I'm not sure if 10% CDR on weapon is better than 10% enhanced damage, but that's a different debate. If you get all the "easy" CDR pieces and the elusive CDR Vyr gloves, you're at 51% which to me already sounds great.
I would like to know that as well. Currently running full fire, I'm only missing one Vyr piece to get the 4p bonus, and I've been looking at possible ways to gear (all including RoRG) :
- 3p Vyr + 3p Tal + MLW, arcane build : nice way to get the meteor procs, but I feel that 4p Tal is a bit underwhelming, and I'd lose a lot on CDR
- 3p Vyr + 2p Born + 2p Crimson + MLW, arcane build : forces me to use Born's sword instead of a Go
Is anyone running successfully a fire archon/CDR build?
Technically not, they only overlap in 2 slots, so taking one of each gives you both bonuses. However I also think that i'll ditch the Cpt. Crimson set when I have my Vyr pieces.
Born's set is horrible imo, 2 out of 3 bonuses are useless.
i have 49.34% cdr without crimson's and something like 54.something% with it so it's really not worth it...i'l take the tal rasha's 2 set bonus instead... i have a harrington's belt but some rifts just don't have anything to click on so it got annoying to use
50 second archon while up for 20 seconds, it's ready in another 30 sec... good nuff for me

Wow I honestly have to admit I overlooked that possibility. If I ever find a decent Vyr's chest I'm gonna try that out. Really not too keen on Tal's set anyways (although the chest is awesome because of the additional primary). Thanks for the heads-up, I shall farm Crimson at some point ;-)
I assume its mostly Archon + Cooldown reduction. Is this true?
Which Slots can roll CDR?

I assume the answer is depends on what I need most so my follow up question is what's a good number to go for in HP (vit), Resist and Armor

To do so, you can use Bagstone's mitigation calculator: http://d3resource.com/mitigation/
Or any other similar tool you can find.
In some cases it would be wise to get rid of the vitality. Usually people would reroll the armor here but sometimes it's absolutely not trivial.

The Oculus is the only offhand I have never seen so far. Maybe I should gamble for it...
It's basically about whether you want to go for more than 50% or not. If you do, you have to use born's and cpt. crimson sets.
If you want to get even higher you would have to get cdr on your rings + amu which is something that many people prefer not to do.
I think that 50% is a really good sweetspot especially for an arcane archon because AT with UW is still really good in terms of aoe dps.
Going for 75% would probably be best for a fire archon with a +2MB.
