I really enjoy my spec and don't want to change though I do have a decent fire gear set and I have tried a little bit of everything. The thing is, I feel like I have hit a brick wall most likely due to RNG. I can clear T4, and T3 is mindless and fast but how can I get to T6? Is this spec just not going to get me there or is there really just that large of a margin between my gear and T6 capable gear?
Would anyone mind suggesting what I should concentrate my gambling on and which items to really look out for?
To do harder difficulties, you will need two unities. One to equip yourself, and one for your merc. You will need ONE of the "Follower cannot die." tokens to make your follower immortal. Doesn't matter which one.
As for your gear; It's kind of a mishmash of good items you've found. There's not really a lot of synergy there. I'd make Aughild's Shoulders and Helm, try to get a pair of Strongarm Bracers with +Ice and 6% crit (Black Hole triggers Strongarm's Affix) and drop Frost Hydra. If you solo a lot, which presumably you do, Black Ice is amazing and probably should be your rune of choice. Try to do Bounties for a Ring of Royal Grandeur so you can stack some set bonuses. To do t5-t6, you have to move from "This peice of gear is really good." to "this peice of gear is really good and works well with THIS." kind of thing.
What would you replace frost hydra with? It is a good chunk of my damage in large groups of monsters. I actually have a strongarm bracer with 19% cold but I am currently up to around 2 mil to enchant it and no CC to show for it. I haven't had any luck with ringsso farbut I will focus now on those.
With cold blood rune I am able to cast ray of frost significantly longer. Long enough to kill a rift guardian with out stopping (and on T3 I can easily face tank). I'm not so sure black ice would be a better choice.
black ice is definitely worth it. Specially with the templar giving you AP regen and having astral presence, you should be fine. There is almost always weak enemies around and this creates tons of patches of black ice that rip through enemy health. Plus black hole can pull them all towards the patches you you can basically bottleneck them through your black ice.
Drop Hydra altogether, I think. You want things to die to Ray of Frost for Black Ice, not hydra.
I'd change Deflection to Force Weapon (Deflection is terrible.) and pick up a defensive skill instead. Frost Nova might have great synergy, but Teleport is good as well.
Alternatively, you can pick up a signature skill if you find yourself running out of AP.
Edit: Does +Ray of Frost damage increase things like Black Ice? I would say no, but I'm just guessing here.
Lol I love all the people that say you need 2 unities to do harder difficulites. I can do T5 on my wiz and T6 on my Witch Doctor, and have never used unity. It is not necessary, it is only a crutch for the baddies.

Found the problem! Witch Doctors easily the best class in the game.

Deflection allows you to face tank a torment higher than you could before.
