There are a lot of variations of the Disintegrate Arcane Wizard build and most are due to different gearing strategies. As you progress in your search for Vyr's Amazing Arcana set for a cooldown reduction Archon build, a lot of options present themselves for Arcane Torrent and Disintegrate.
Based on the gear I currently have, today I present a midrange T4 spec that can stand in most ground effects and rarely has to kite. This allows for extra mitigation through Unwavering Will, extra damage through Audacity, and takes full advantage of Chaos Nexus and Moonlight Ward's shards. In this video I go over the build, gear, Paragon point allocation, variations, and show some solo T4 Rift action. Enjoy!
APOC, YOU STOLE MY BUILD! ;-) We Built along the same lines; Like exactly the same lines. completely agree with most everything you said.
The only nitpick I had was you would not use Slorak's for an Archon CD built; Disintegrate from Sloraks' is not the same as Disintegration Wave from Archon. You would use Gesture of Orpheus.
Tal Rasha's offhand may be superior to Triumvirate if you roll Int, Crit, ApoC and Disintegrate; it frees up Familiar/Astral Presence to a stronger DPS choice, outweighing the 10% arcane damage on Triumvirate; plus enabling Tal's set bonus. I think!

I prefer Sloraks to Gesture because Sloraks rolls 5 primaries (it's one of the few weapons in the game, if you consider Disint dmg a primary), Gesture only 4. With Slorak's you can get Int, Socket, AND Cooldown reduction. On Gesture, you can only get Socket + 1 other mod (due to the additional Arcane damage mod). So unless 20% Arcane damage > 750 Int, Slorak's wins. I realize they are not the same Disint. If they were, Archon would be completely broken.
Regarding Tal's Orb, Trium is better for Archon once you get Vyrs because you don't need APOC. Because you'll be stacking CDR, you'll most likely be using RRoG so you only need 2 Tals (if you care for the bonus).
Hey there. I just checked your build and I can say it works quite well. Much better than my mirrorball arcane dynamo build. I was feeling mine was feeling a lot clunky tho. Observations and questions:
You strayed from your general idea staying away from vit I can see with ~500k health. Guess its necessary when you are facetanking.
Would you swap the amethyst to a diamond when you get 4p archon?
Is it personal preference that you arent using aughilds?
Would you consider using Cosmic strand instead of triumvirate to get stun effects with teleport?
How much of a boost do you think the Moonlight Ward is? I can see you are doing quite a lot of damage with it.
Why chaos nexus over entropy?
Why disintegrate over arcane torrent? Assuming you have both Slorak's Madness and Gesture of Orpheus of course.
Would you consider strongarm bracers if you got the Vyr's 4p as AP consumption decreases for extra damage through black hole?
Guess thats all for now
1) It just happened that way. I don't purposely stay away from vit, I just try not to stack it. The massive HP is due to the hp gem in the helm and the 3 piece Asheara's bonus. 2) Yes I will be putting a diamond in the helm once I get full Vyrs.
3) Not using Aughild's right now because I don't have RRoG. May not have room for it in the build though once I start stacking CDR. With 2x Unity + immortal follower it won't be necessary though.
4) Triumvirate wins in DPS. I don't care for the stuns much.
5) Moonlight is a huge boost if they can get in melee range, otherwise it's worthless. It seems to proc about once per second.
6) Not everything gets in melee range and there are times when you still have to attack from afar (especially in group play). This way you can still hit range, but you're just stronger in mid/melee.
7) I don't like Arcane Torrent because of the delay in damage and less AOE. It's better single target (though not by much, considering the secondary beam from Chaos Nexus will also proc on a single target) and cheaper cost, but the travel delay annoys me.
8) I'll probably be giving up black hole for Archon (and keep teleport for mobility), so it won't be of any help. And I'll need Reaper's more than ever because I won't be as concerned about AP, so while OUT of Archon form I'll need a quick way to regen.
With some positioning your main beam should be able to hit all targets of an elite pack, meaning that the side-beam advantage only really applies to small whites running around you. Small whites which will probably die on just the moonlight ward would't you agree? If you need the sidebeams for additional APoC procs its a whole different story ofcourse.

Not quite right. Gesture can roll 750 int, 20% Arcane, +1490 damage and a socket. A perfect roll Sloraks would indeed roll 5 primaries; or 1490 dmg, 750 int, 1 socket, CDR and 10% Weapon damage.
Would CDR and 10% weapon damage outweigh 20% arcane damage? Due to the way Arcane % damage scales, I don't believe so.
Tal's is probably superior specifically for Disintegrate. No question Triumvirate, with CDR, is superior for Archon

Slorak's can't roll all that. You can't have damage, int, cd, socket, and 10%. The boost to disintegrate counts as a primary but is not included in the 4x 'limit'.
The comparison is like this:
Gesture:
+damage
+arcane damage
+int
+socket
Sloraks:
+damage
+disint damage
+int
+socket
+CDR or 10%
Here's something you need to keep in mind though, the 10% on a weapon is then multiplied by all the other multipliers. It basically adds to min/max damage. The arcane% dmg doesn't do anything for min/max, so the 20% isn't twice as good as the 10% because of where they are in the 'stack'. The 10% is part of the BASE damage.
As a follow-up to the previous video where I explained the build itself, today I show you some T6 group action. There's still a lot of gear that needs upgrading, but it is doable with my current items. That said, I am playing with a well geared group so take it for what it's worth.
Maybe a dumb question, but seems I might find my answer here,
does Slorak's Madness scale with the disintegration wave from archon?
No. Disintegration Wave is not Disintegrate. I thought, before RoS launched, that Archon's attack was simply Disintegrate, but it is Disintegration Wave. It is the EXACT same spell, uses the same breakpoints, but intentionally does not benefit from +Disintegrate.
How do you regenerate AP without generator? I run out so fast I have to add a generator
We use Reaper's Wraps, -Resource Cost, Astral presence. I additionally use Archon for RG's; he went with Teleport for increased mobility. I like my way better

As an aside I want to ask how is the AD buff applied? Does it simply increase my disintegrate damage from 511% to 571%?

Chaos Nexus does a lot more damage in mid range because of the side beams.
