I have a question. I have a really, really nicely rolled SoH. Obviously, this got nerfed. It procs on almost every magic missile cast, but very rarely on Frozen orb. My question is, is Shard of Hate better than Thunderfury for a Mirrorball Magic Missile Frozen Orb Wizard? Should I be looking for a Thunderfury? I still have not found one, so I can't really play around, but I need to find an outlet for my blood shards.
imho thunderfury is bis for every wizard spec, since it can proc up to two elements for elemental exposure(wep damage as cold/fire/arcane + proc as lightning)and the lightning proc can proc tal rashas 4pc.
Weapon dmg does not apply to elemental exposure. All your weapon dmg is converted to whatever type the spell you are using says. So if you have fire dmg on your weapon, and cast frozen orb, all that fire dmg is converted to cold dmg. Elemental dmg on weapons is mostly for vanity.
That is my current thinking as well. I can also remove my Storm Armor - Shocking Aspect for something like Energy armor - Pinpoint Barrier for the extra 5% crit, as currently storm armor is my only source of lightning for elemental exposure and lightning meteor for Tal Rasha 4 set.
I guess an Arcane weapon damage Thunderfury would allow me to use Black Hole - Absolute Zero for a longer buff as well, instead of spellsteal.
I still haven't found a Thunderfury, so until then I guess it's blood shards for weapons *sigh*.
I completely forgot about that, I was scratching my head wondering what the hell was proccing the lightning meteors from my 4pc Tal's set when I wasn't using any lightning skills.
That was probably Thundergod's Vigor. As far as I recall, Thunderfury does not proc the Tal's 4 piece bonus.
(I mixed stuff up, see below; TF procs Tal's set bonus.)
Thunderfury DOES proc the Tal's 4 piece.
Source: Using it as I write this.
Thank you! I don't have 4pc Tal's (still only one piece), so could never test it myself. I think I mixed that up with the weapon's element that does not proc Tal's bonus.
I don't think either of them is superior, they just work differently and both of them have their uses. I have both of them and use them depending on my build; obviously, for arcane the TF is the only viable choice, but for an Arc Lightning build the SoH seems to be better. It really depends.
Yes, this is the case, see post #5 in this thread.
Well, it's in the description of the passive Elemental Exposure. When you select the passive, and read the text, it should be crystal clear. The front page is for news, and this is not something new. It's okay if people selected Elemental Exposure without reading the passive's description, but it's not really news-worthy ;-)

Why do you think it's unclear for most wizards?
I always believed that Your auto attack/attack when you are out of arcane power is what applies the second stack of elemental exposure based on your weapon damage type. This same effect also procs meteors of the same type for tal rasha's 4 pc.
So if I have a weapon that deals lightning damage but all my abilities are arcane/frost/fire (ie not lightning) if I swing my weapon for an attack that does not use a skill (you can try by removing an ability in your right click slot), that attack will cause lightning damage.
It doesn't shouldn't. "Procs don't proc other procs". Otherwise you could create an unlimited spiral of procs (TF procs Tal Rasha's, Tal Rasha's procs TF, TF procs Tal Rasha's, ...) - all spells/effects from procs have a proc coefficient of 0.
Well then it must be bugged because I just tested the theory with no lightning skills besides my TF which is black damage except for the proc. While casting disintegrate I noticed that my Tal set in procing lightning meteors from my TF lightning proc. I had absolutely zero lightning skills selected during the test.

"Elemental damage from your weapon contributes to Elemental Exposure."
Yes, elemental weapon damage is being converted to the skill's element but only after EE.

If I equip a weapon with fire damage on it. WIll my frost spells apply 2 stacks of elemental exposure?
If yes, this is something worth posting on the front page because I'm quite certain it's unclear for most wizards.

thunderfury is another history, 2 stacks of EE (assuming the wep damge is anything other than lightning) and 1 lightning meteor from the proc.
