Hey guys, I've been messing around with an Arcane Torrent build and it seems to do really well in T4 (I farm T4 for speed) but I can also do T5 though with a few deaths. I sometimes die once or twice to a tough affix in T4 but am okay for the most part. I can almost just tank and spank in T4 with my healing (even though it's not much) but I do have to avoid some stuff and anything that elites might have. Elites on T4 take anywhere from 20 to 45 seconds while bosses are probably a min and a half.
I was hoping someone could take a look at my gear and tell me what they think I should work on replacing, ect. Currently, self-buffed, I have 155k damage, 700k toughness, 2k healing, 50% crit, only about 120% crit damage, and between 765 - 865 resist.
I love the build but I feel like I should be able to do T6 because my gear really isn't that bad at all besides a socket in my weapon and maybe a better belt. What could you do to my gear to boost both my DPS as well as my survivability?
I'm using Slow Time currently because I can have 3 up at a time before the first one goes away since I have a 58% CDR to Slow Time on my weapon. It's the only "defensive" ability I have -- the rest of my abilities besides Energy Armor - Pinpoint Barrier are purely focused on DPS. I guess you could call Magic Missile - Glacial Spike a defensive ability since it's really only there for CC; a guaranteed freeze once every 5 seconds. If I could make room for Teleport or Mirror Images (which is what I'd likely use instead of Teleport) then I could probably easily survive T6 but then I run into the problem of my damage being a lot less. I've only tried T6 once and that was in Act 2 - A Royal Audience but those demons are pretty annoying seeing as they go invis til they're close. I can kill them with decent speed but it was hell trying to stay alive but at the time I used Mirror Images and a Skorn instead of my current set-up. I'll have to give it another shot.
Basically, I feel like I have a strong build and pretty good gear but don't think I'm doing as much damage as I should. For bosses, I try to switch from Cascade to Disruption but I cannot tell which does more damage. Is there a rule to follow? Does Disruption proc from the next series of attacks from my channel?
EDIT: For some reason it's showing a different set of Rare Shoulders than what I currently have on. My current shoulders actually have +15% to Familiar and I believe more int. I also realize I need Arcane Damage on my SoJ but that's the only one I've found so far.
EDIT 2: Upon further inspection, I noticed it shows me still wearing Tal Rasha's helm when I replaced it yesterday with a good rare that had +14% to Arcane Torrent, 5.5% crit, either 4 APoC or 13 maximum arcane power, and 304 int (only parts I remember without logging in to check, but I'm @ work right now). Is there a way to update my D3 "armory"?
That's interesting, I'll try it out when I get home but don't you think I'd need more toughness before I can try it on a higher difficulty? Currently in T3 I one-shot minions, two-shot regular mobs, and burn through entire elite packs in 10 seconds or less (if they're bunched up) while ignoring any damage because nothing kills me before I heal up so I've been farming T4 where there's a little danger but not too much if I just avoid/dodge stuff while still killing things pretty fast.
That said, it looks like that build could be more damage once I replace my Magic Missile with Spectral Blade while giving me additional arcane power regeneration. I lose the 10% extra damage from Slow Time and the 5% crit from Energy Armor but the constant Spectral Blade spam should beat that if I can keep casting both of them at the same time.
What do you think of this with my current set-up, only with Spectral Blade damage where Magic Missile damage is on my gear? I changed Teleport with Slow Time;
I really like the above build, am I correct in assuming that I can cast Spectral Blade and Arcane Torrent simultaneously? If so, I might even consider changing the rune on Spectral Blade to Thrown Blade so it does even more damage and has a bit more reach.. and change my passive from Astral Presence to Prodigy. The reason for Slow Time over Teleport is because it'd be perma-stun without the risk of taking melee damage as I can get a third Slow Time up before the first one expires. Is there an internal CD on the stun proc of Point of No Return or any type of diminishing return?
I tried out the build you're using in the youtube video and I must say that I'm really impressed, it's awesome. I can't quite run that build in T6, I die too much because my toughness and regen isn't high enough yet but I'm going to try and figure out which pieces I can switch around to make it so. I kill things in T6 about 3 times as fast as you did in the video so I'm hopeful that once I find some gear that gives me some sort of regeneration as well as some more resist all that I'll be able to destroy it.
I moved down a difficulty with the build and while I can destroy things almost instantly, elite packs kill me before I can kill them a lot of times. I guess it might be better for me to try Spectral Blades but it seems like I'd lose a decent amount of DPS given that I can't cast that and AT at the same time. I'm not sure which piece of gear I should look to replace for some survivability.. they're all pretty good pieces except maybe my chest/shoulders but I'm not sure if that'd be the best way to get regen.
That's a good idea, I'll try the all-res in my chest piece. I was actually looking to replace that haha.
The shoulders that are showing up are not the ones I actually have equipped and I'm not sure why my helm/belt updated but the shoulders still didn't. My current shoulders have Int/Vit/AR/15% Familiar damage.
New Ghennas is something I'll work on, I thought that'd be a piece I might replace since I'm not using Magic Missile.
On my gloves, would it be okay to go with Arcane Damage/Vit/AR and Armor OR Life per Hit?
I also switched Glass Cannon for Cold Blooded yesterday. I'm at 607k Toughness self-buffed.
EDIT: I was wondering, do you think Ice Armor - Ice Reflect would work better than Frozen Storm? It looks like it'd give more survivability as well as do more damage.
Regarding my gear, I'm trying to find a BK ring with better stats, an SoJ with Arcane damage, shoulders that offer more survivability, and some bracers that give another 5% arcane (some legendary piece?).
I've been playing through the campaign (reset quests) in Torment 5. Regular mobs practically die instantly and elites die in under 10 seconds if they're grouped up. May take 15 - 20 seconds if I have to kill them individually. On some elite packs that have tough affixs where I have to wait for an opening it may take 30 seconds or just over but never over 40 - 45 seconds. It's fast and easy if I'm paying attention and don't stand in stuff.
I have no tried T6 with my current setup but I assume I'll need another 300 resist all and maybe a weapon that converts damage dealt to life before I can farm it quickly without dying too much.
I only have 4 APoC but I have 155 Arcane Power.
As for Paragon points, I've been putting them into Intelligence | Critical Hit Damage | All Resistance | Area Damage
I'm NOT running Blur atm but it seems to be working fine on T5.
