Like many people, I've been drawn back by patch 2.0, and I'm enjoying it quite a lot. The new legendaries' special abilities can really shine with some builds, and I wanted to share my recent experience with you. Please note that this is in no way an original build, it is merely a variant of the Sleet Storm templates custom tailored for a specific legendary.
I switched to this build after dropping a Scourge, which is a nice 2H sword which makes very regular poison explosions around the caster.
- Magic Missile - Glacial Spike : can freeze a bunch of close opponents in a pinch, always useful in HC
- Ray of Frost - Sleet Storm : the build's staple, of course
- Teleport - Fracture : never get stuck (Calamity works well too, I'm just too used to the decoys)
- Magic Weapon - Deflection : a dps boost and a shield generated by each hit ... can't go wrong with both offense and defense
- Diamond Skin - Enduring Skin : another life-saver
- Energy Armor - Prismatic Armor : can't have too much toughness in HC
- Blur : toughness again
- Unstable Anomaly : madness? This is haaaaardcore!
- Astral Presence : to offset the loss from Energy Armor and gain some regen
Scourge's explosion is slightly smaller than Sleet Storm's area, and procs extremely regularly (ICD of a few seconds, 5 or 6 at most I'd say), which makes it a kind of poor man's Explosive Blast, but free. Its damage is quite significant, too, I'd say it's roughly equivalent to 3 ticks of Sleet Storm. Since I'm just standing here casting non-stop, the shield from Magic Weapon is constantly refreshed, which makes for a nice damage buffer. Finally, using a very slow weapon means that my AP goes down very, very slowly, and I can keep the aoe up for a long while.
This builds works really well for me in HC, currently paragon 12 and playing on Expert mode. I'd expect a significant scalability problem in Torment, but since I have no intention of going there for the time being, it's not a problem
Any comments or suggestions are of course welcome!
Any chance of a video you could cut with it in action? If you don't have fraps you could always use the website www.screenr.com I'd imagine (unless the DX vid messes with that). I used to use screener to capture development on a game I was making way back (but it was in vb not dx11).
I'm afraid I don't have fraps. I'll see whether I can find the time to install it and fool around with it, but I'm a bit short on time these days, so that's unlikely in the near future.
