Poor old familiar vigoron.... things just haven't worked out for you yet

May the heroes rise from the pit of despair and the bards sing of the day of death renewed to everlasting immortality....awaiting your return to the lands of Sanctuary may peace be with you on this day...your day of birth.
RIP Archon, going back to my Witch Doctor since it seems possible to do a pure pet build in RoS. Good times were had
I think the awesome new stuff the Wizard has received more than makes up for the loss of what was really a painfully one dimensional build with puddle deep game play.
Even if Archon survived, I'd still chose Frozen Orb over it.
black hole+sleet storm+0 dog with those health globes+supposedly unique ring with explode radius for picking a health globes...so much aoe
either we're getting huge damage buffs and enemies getting more hp+more difficult or we get damage reduction and enemies getting more hp and more difficult just like pre-nerf inferno
Storm Chaser going Lightning. Spectral Blades actually getting to leverage its elemental types carry-over - Chant Force + Storm Crow + arcane Tal's Alliegance + cold SoJ = full stacks of elemental-damage passive in one sig spell. Wave of Force as a DPS spell with optional knockback. Paralysis being reliable and game-able (yes, I will charge up my stun before TP + WoF/Lightning into that elite pack) without being broken (lowish uptime even with 3.0 APS). Pulsar and Black Hole giving some real battlefield control instead of kiting and PBAoE knockbacks. Actually useful Fire spells that aren't Meteor!
So much to love about this. So many possibilities. Can't wait.
I just realized my ninja wizard is going to be very pleased with Mirror Image potentially doing more damage. Also... I guess I'm pumping paragon points into evasion and dex. So much to do!
Why the 20% increased dmg against targets within 15 yards. I'd rather see bonus dmg to targets further away :(. Sort of less risky version of glass cannon
The elemental Wizard changes are super. Excited beyond belief. My Wizard was my original main when I started at launch...moved over to my Monk to play a more self-found style instead, and I do love the Life Regen/Spirit Regen Skorn build I've got going with my Monk, but I do really look forward to going back to my Wizard in full force.
Also to keep in mind, Jaetch and everyone else...in case it wasn't mentioned...I think in some of the datamined changes, there's a distinct possibility of elemental damage having effects. For instance, cold damage causing Slow, fire and poison doing innate DoT...one thing I thought was awesome is that arcane may CHARM!! If that happens, it'd be badass.
Especially since my Disruption, Arcane Hydra, Wicked Wind build would benefit considerably from some innate crowd control type elemental effects. Using things like Temporal Flux and Wave of Force works okay sometimes, but CHARM would be great, not only for the crowd control but as an additional damage dealing effect as well.
Ironically i'll still play the same cold build on my wizard (probably changing storm armor to black hole), but now i won't need insane gear for it to be viable, the fact that we can now make a true fire/cold/arcane/lightning wizard full with sig spell and arcane spender is really a great deserved change. now it's just waiting for blizzcon so they can start that damned beta already. ^^

With the attack speed caps, that itself will semi nerf CMWW.
The stat caps in general hit a lot of the FotM builds hard. They're putting a hard cap on the amount of offense (other than raw +damage) you can get from gear. With offense and utility capped, the stats can really only go to sustain and EHP to try and free up another skill for offense.
That legendary that makes you deal 10x your Life per Sec to nearby enemies instead of healing from it seems fascinating, though - pair it with life regen skills for extra burst damage, and generally get around the offense cap by making a defensive stat offensive. A few effects like that could give the game some real legs.
Paralysis STILL sucks, 8% chance to stun to a 10% chance >.< On the other hand, maybe a pure lightning build will be viable; with many spells stacking that chance to stun.
You could easily build a "Lightning" Wizard http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#U.XPST!!b.acacwith something like Electrocute, "Lightning Meteor", "Lightning Black Hole", ,Magic Weapon: Electrify, Shocking Armor and a Passive like Paralysis and something defensive like Crystal Shell.
A "Fire" Wizard may use Conflagerate but opt for Meteor or "Fire" Orb. Or Try to spend their Arcane power on "Heat Wave" The possibilities really are endless. I'm glad Blizzard is really trying to make "Elemental" builds viable; it was something really missing from the game.
A few thoughts: Looks like Energy Twister still sucks, Fire/Lightning really need thier "own" versions of Frost Nova, Black Hole will be in every build;
I can't wait till an updated skill calculator appears to really dig into the new expansion skills and how they will interact. I asked the mods if it was possible! ;-)
Nixing life steal and Blood Magic/Crystal Shell makes me wonder how on earth we'll survive though. Once damage starts being taken...you start dying and it's not going to be easy to recover health on boss fights.

Might be light defensively; so if Mirror Mimics count towards Paralysis, you have even more chance to Stun something while being a defensive skill. Or you might forego "Orb" and use "Electric Feels" (Which is a crappy name, really. Why not something like "Overcharge"? )
A "Fire" Wizard may use Conflagerate but opt for Meteor over "Fire" Orb. Or Opt to spend their Arcane power on "Heat Wave" The possibilities really are endless. I'm glad Blizzard is really trying to make "Elemental" builds viable; it was something really missing from the game.

Actually, with MW - Electrify, Storm Armor - Shocking Aspect, Living Lightning and ET - Storm Chaser, you have a surprisingly good chance to stun groups because of the huge numbers of Electrify & SA procs from alternating ET and LL. Throw in some Life on Hit to exploit this enormous amount of procs, and it's a functional, if not Archon-level, build. It all depends on what happens to proc coefficients in RoS, but from what we know, with Storm Chaser becoming Lightning damage and Paralysis getting a chance increase, it should get even better.
Now, I liked the wind-up-then-stun version better because it was both tactical (use the right spell at the right point in the cycle, etc) and avoided "lockdown" because there was no way you'd get the APS to perma-stun, whereas this version just needs 6.7 procs per second, not attacks. But it's not "useless" even now - just Tier 3 in an environment where everyone can choose Tier 1. With buffs and more useful spells, along with nerfs to the strongest builds, it's one to keep an eye on when we get our hands on it.
We dont know any cm changes yet, yeah nor do we know the proc coefficient changes either so we wont know if CMWW will be nerfed or not. I do hope it is though.
I'm sure it will be. I suspect ApoC is going to be axed significantly, as Critical Mass hasn't been changed. However, they COULD simply change Critical Mass to restore Arcane Power on Crit. That is what I suspected they would do.
. add Explosive Blast for extra awesomeness..
I disagree. Explosive Blast is the big loser in 2.0. The only thing going for it was no attack animation and it's synergy with CM. Why bother with the spell now? Seems every one is signicantly better.
this will kill of the infinite archon.
Um, yeah. That's the point, man. Infinite Archon has to go. Seems like they want AP to be a "thing"

Yes. CMWW has to die.
If going by the changes the barb had I think it is possible there is a change coming to AP/crit. If a CMWW don't have infinite resourses it becomes drastically more difficult to keep permafreeze up.
Since there is no up-to-date skill calculator, some of this may require some explanation:
Ray of Frost - Numb has a 15% chance to Freeze, plus an effective single target nuke.
Blizzard - Frozen Solid has a 25% Chance to Freeze plus stacks Cold Blooded on Everything
Frost Nova is 100% Freeze and some Defensive utility. Ironically, this skill is probably the first one you'd change for Diamond Skin.
Hydra casts "Frost Nova" (More on this later) and stacks damage on the mobs.
Familiar - Vigoron has been changed to "Icicle" Which has a 35% chance to Freeze enemies on attack.
Ice Armor has a chance to freeze attackers and adds a bit of AE DPS and some defensive utility.
Seems like a pretty standard build, but here's where it all gets interesting:
There's a legendary item that does this: Chance to shatter and instantly kill frozen enemies. So everytime you freeze enemies, it's a good shot of one hit kills. And there's a LOT of freezing going on.
Some other useful legendaries that really complement the theme are:
Unknown Legendary:Your Chill effects have a 50% chance to Freeze instead of Slow. Unknown Legendary: Ray of Frost now pierces
Unknown Legendary:Frost Hydra now periodically casts Frost Nova.
Legendary Wand: You may have one extra Hydra active at a time.
It seems unlikely you could get ALL four Wizard specific Legendaries, but as long as you have "Instant Death- Freeze", the build should work. Equipping "Freeze instead of Chill" would allow you to change the build dramatically as you see fit!
Surprised this thread isn't more active with people posting possible builds utilizing the legendary item passives.
Items and skills are just objects in motion, it's hard to say just from looking at a few numbers what would make for a great build. For example, if a skill gets buffed or the mechanics get changed, no one knows what it actually feels like in-game; upon cast, is there a delay or immediately casted, is it targeting an enemy or just a PB spell, how is it affected by other spells/items?
Since Blizzard is fixing the black weapon thing and elemental effects are making their way back into the game, it's really more than pointless to even invest 5 minutes in thinking about complete builds before Blizzcon. In ~2.5 weeks theorycrafting can be done on a more solid ground, and once beta starts you'll see more people posting. And even then, there's no guarantee anything makes it into release.
Looking at the legendary affixes gave me plenty of ideas, but I'm not creating my "dream build" just yet, because keep in mind the AH will be gone. With (already) 194 different legendary affixes and 100 different runes there are sooooooo many combinations, and I'll try them out once a legendary drops. I want to go back to self-found come RoS and not have a specific build/set in mind that I wanna work towards, but just use whatever drops I get to come up with new builds while playing. Just my approach ;-)
I am really excited for frozen orb and black hole. I thought event horizon is interesting in that it absorbs ranged attacks. This would be cool for some type of sns build or melee wizard to cast event horizon on him/her self.
It sucks that archon will no longer be permanent. Maybe frozen orb will have a nice proc rate to bring back archon. Notice the time bubble rune for archon last 15 seconds but the teleport rune has a cool down of 10 seconds? Something there doesn' t seem right. If there is going to be an entire rune for archon that grants teleport then it should let us rapid teleport for the 15 second duration.

Wizards for the win, it seems, :-)

Yes. It will be ApoC or CM.
This was simply correcting (honestly) incompetent design of Wizards at Launch.

I miss my Blizzard sorc. Like I said many times: if there's a legendary item that lets Blizzard stack, it's all I want.
