Hi, it's been months since I started to consider replaying D3 again. The last time I played was around July and after that, I had a brief two hour moment back in November. With the upcoming patch, I figure I get back into the game. However, since no one on the official forums is willing to give me advice, I figure I go here and hopefully get some much needed advice.
My goals are to eventually be able to solo my way through MP 10 as a P100 wizard but until then, I'm stuck as at MP1 as a P10. I've been brushing up on the things that have changed in the past two weeks and I think I would want to start playing as either an Archon, or a melee wizard.
Currently, I have less than 200k to my name so I was hoping someone would be willing to give me advice on where to start (what items to focus on first, what act I should consider, etc). Here is what I have so far for my character: http://us.battle.net...78/hero/3707523
I am in a similar boat. I returned almost a week ago with about 200k. See my thread here http://www.diablofan...eturning-wizard Currently, I can solo MP5 Act 3 the crater through the end with good speed. Its great XP and loot is good with nice monster density for Black Ice. I can die, but I am not that good yet. When I focus and kite some, I have been able to take 2 elite packs and yellow boss all at once with a screen full of mobs. Actually the more the better for this build. I am running with a Scoundrel, and trying to purchase the chill gear (looking for a good buy)
This is my current build gear, it is a work in progress http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Magusrex-1997 /hero/4552603 I tried it first with life on hit but since the change to Life steal I have been able to go up in MP a notch. I can tank a good amount of elites if I choose, some affixes force me to kite, but snowbound allows for Blizzard spam and the increased Blizzard damage from last patch make this take not long at all. I wish I had the resources to really push my DPS because this would build get really fun at higher DPS. I have stayed away from IAS because that gear is expensive and this build really doesn’t need it. I use Inna’s pants for the MS.
I have been messing around with runes often to get it just right, reactive armor is nice too but this current build is the best for tanking. You can’t run out of AP in order to tank. I don’t think this would work well your weapon and offhand but it would be cheap to buy a decent 2hnder (skorn) to try it. I like running around at a decent EHP as well. Just trying pay forward the advice I received. Just read what Bagstone and Jaetch post. Bagstone gear guide is your wizard bible. Look for those items and throw up bids on short bids, buyouts are not for us at our level of resources. I hope you try it I would love here from someone else who is messing around with this kind of gear and build.
You tell me this after I got a Skorn as a drop that had 1.3k dps and I sold if off the AH. Well, time to get moving I guess.
That's if you want to use a Skorn. Long term, you want a black weapon with a Triumvirate if you want to run an Archon-based build. For CM/WW it's a whole other gearing scheme. I only recommend Archon builds more because the gear you use (and when you get to higher levels), you can utilize your set to play with alternate builds that are more fun than efficient.
If you do want to use a Skorn, get one with life steal. It makes staying alive much easier, which means more uptime killing things.

My personal intent is to go archon modeled after you (unrealastic). I needed something cheap to get me going and was surprised how much I enjoy the playstyle. I keep looking for a good black 1 hander but don't think I am going to find a bargain. Just going to have to grind up the cash. However I think I am ready for MP6 now with my current gear since I am crushing MP5. IE in 4 Players games if I can get to the front (challenging because peope are faster than me) I kill most everything before they get there except for elites.
Could someone take a look at my profile now and give me some pointers on what I should focus on to bump up my DPS to 101k? I don't know what to go for next and my budget is 800k.
You can get 1K+ DPS ones with those stats for under 1M.
Once you get one, save gold and just farm. Do major upgrades one by one; not tiny negligible ones that will just cost you time (XP and loot) and gold that could add up substantially over a span of multiple upgrades.
Oh, make sure it's black damage as well so you can retain full usage of your elemental bonus damage items.
To add:
I just checked the market. An item like that wand for example, will add nearly 9K unbuffed DPS to your overall stats, if you socket it with at least a Star Emerald. You can probably find an even better deal if you look hard enough.
Sorry for offtopic, but I can't send PMs yet. Jaetch would you be kind to answer to my post in this topic http://www.diablofan...n-archon-build/ when you have spare time? Really wanted to hear your opinion. Thanks in advance
I've reached 100k+ DPS and can comfortably farm MP2 (haven't tried anything higher). I'm wondering, what next for gear? Rings are so freakishly expensive and I can't find a decent pair of pants to replace the one that I have. I currently have 1 mill so should I farm out more and wait it out or should I start crafting pants?
