Can we confirm Arcane Orb hot fix?

    Ok so I've been playing as a Whirly wicked wind wiz for the last few weeks, but before that i was strictly an orb spamming crit monkey.

    I swapped back to the orb build tonight and noticed there has been a sneaky change to the way Arcane Orbs work, I have not seen any posts about it yet so thought I'd start one.


    I came across my first elite pack and started to fire off orbs, and the next thing i knew, the pack was on top of me, thought ok, maybe I lagged, wormhole, orbs, rinse repeat just i had done for many many months as I farmed act II and III. But again and again these elite packs were getting on top of me, they just felt like they were faster.

    The change is this, from the orb the AOE explosion causes a stun like effect on monsters, when the orb hits them of course, this gives you a second or so to fire off the next orb, or when stutter stepping it's the perfect time to turn around and fire again. Anyone who has used Orb for their builds should know exactly what I'm talking about. It was awesome for slowing down elites just momentarily.

    But... as of (I really don't know)

    Orbs AOE stun, does not work on elites any more (they pretty much run straight through them)

    although,
    Orb AOE stun still seems to work on trash mobs


    I do not know when this change happened but has anyone else noticed this, or are we all just Wicked wind warriors now?

    I played a lot of Arcane Orb as well and I know what you're talking about, it's like a mini-stun. I think it has to do with a certain damage threshold that causes a little stutter in their movement. I'll try out arcane orb to see if I notice the same change.

    No stun here, no. But it's not really passing through them though, except if you're using Celestial Orb of course.

    If you do X% of a a creatures life in one hit, it stuns them. All that has happened is you've moved down in either DPS, or Crit Damage so that you're not hitting as hard consistently to cause them to stun lock.

    I use this strategy with my DH all the time, and Kieble is probably right, most likely something about your gear is different.

    They did up the amount of damage required to stutter champs and elites a couple weeks ago after one of their patches dropped it too low. If you're at the same damage as before that may also be the issue.

    Sorry should have posted more about my build, but wanted to get some sleep


    My base dps is +100k, crit damage of 300% (orb spec)

    Crit orbs regularly hit the elites for 300k, and is not causing any stun effect.. I'd typically think 300k crits would be enough to cause a stun, considering before 50k normal hits seemed to be enough to cause it.

    The elites are just walking through the orbs like nothing ever happened, it has made the orb spec feel extremely broken to me now. I have been testing it in act III, and basically getting my ass kicked. Where as before the orb spec was awesome and powerful, it is now way more off screen spamming to make sure elites can't get on top of you.

    It feels broken to me because there is no stun ever, no matter how much damage you do. So can people please jump into the game, equip ORB and test. Something is definitely wrong.

    - My gear has not changed, I kept all my orb gear separate and just re-equip when i want to play that way
    - Since my gear has not changed, my base dps has not changed from where it was at 100k

    What I'd like to do is find out when they changed this, was it the last patch on Tuesday night or before? Can anyone find any patch or release notes, cause it doesn't seem to be in the hotfix list for august.

    I really would have thought there would be more ORB builds jumping on this. Guess wicked wind has lowered the build diversity in here >_

    Might be something that broke with the last patch too. Try reporting it.

    Reported it in the official bug forum, now we await the flaming and being called a retard by people too lazy to log in and check it themselves 'rolls eyes', I seriously hate that forum.

    i'll probly be switching to this build because i havent tried the dps build yet, just the CM/WW, which i beat the game with already. guess i'll look into the setup tomorrow and see how i stand and check this out. I remember reading about doing this when i used my monk back in the day, but again never had enough dps.

    That is a real shame, they remove it and don't say anything at all about it. With the incoming CMWW nerf, I think i will be selling up my wiz gear in favor of a Whirlwind barb. I really don't want to go back to off screen kiting >:(

    Also someone should re-post this on battlenet, someone who isn't me :)

    It's either a bug or part of the many resistances Inferno elites have against CCs (in case you didn't know, snares, stuns and freeze all have reduced effect against Inferno elites as well). My money is on that it's a bug, since there's no reason for this not to work if you can deal insane amounts of damage to them anyway - by no means a cheese strat.

    It's more a case of it used to, and now doesn't. The orb would explode and you would see 'snared' come up, and that was pretty much every orb.

    "Snared" would never come up when you had the high crit stun. You had Temporal Flux doing that.

    This really makes a difference. It's to bad that minute stun wasnt a mechanic working as intended.
