I see alot of wizard and demon hunter guides and videos that make Act III seem like a total joke. On some of these stream videos they're 1 shotting the monsters, and they dont even come close to dieing to some of the elite packs.
My wizard as you will see in the pictures below is running around 500-600 resistances (Could be higher if i changed energy armor) 58k DPS, 26k HP, 30% Crit Chance and 210% Crit Damage.
In paper, i shouldn't have any trouble farming Act III right? But NO ! Most of the elites 2-3 shot me and its getting really annoying.
Can you guys give me any tips? Maybe i should switch out some pieces? get some more resistances? DPS perhaps? I dont know ! One guy on general mentioned that i should try some kind of melee build?
Your life seems a bit low. I would get some more vitality if you're dieing easily. Your resists and damage seem fine to me.
Also I would switch critical mass for cold blooded (was recently changed). If you aren't make sure you're using the scoundrel with a cold dmg wpn with 3%+ proc for control.
Personally, I use missle-seeker as my primary but I think multiple spells work in that slot. You can probably get away with arcane passive for dynamo or blur.
Having critical mass just for the sole purpose of refreshing diamond skin is a wasted passive slot in my opinion...
i would suggest these changes :
- i dont see if you have 12% movements speed on boots, if you havent, get it
- drop critical mass for illusionist and force weapon for teleport - fracture
- dont use 2 hand weapon...for real, too slow and clunky to micro effectively past act 2
if you still have problems, maybe its time to stop looking at gear and skillbuild and try to improve your skills such as map awareness, abusing doorways, cliffs (especially act 3), and perfecting stutterstep
otherwise there is not much to say,
I mostly agree with this post, except a 2h is fine. Yes a 1h is easier to stutter step with while kiting but once you get used to it kiting with a 2h isn't too bad. Also blizzard damage is horrible when using a 1h because it doesn't take attack speed into account.
I used a very similar spec when I cleared Inferno (pre1.03 patch though) with less dps. After that I switched out blizzard for arcane orb for farming and found it worked a lot better because it has much better burst. I used Teleport instead of Magic Weapon and used Glass Cannon, Illusionist, and Temporal Flux to kite with, but you can keep blizzard and use Galvanic Winds passive instead and it should work just fine. The teleport+DS+illusionist goes a long way in improving your survivability. I would recommend using Crystal Shell rune for DS though, to make it more useful on elites and just more useful in general. Without it it likely only absorbs 1 hit, but with it should fully absorb 2. Definitely replace critical mass with something though.
The fact is mobs WILL 2-3 shot you unless you stack the heck out of resists, armor, and vit, but that's how it's supposed to be with Force Armor. With a kiting spec it is not worth trying to gear to survive 4 hits since it requires like 5x the EHP then needed to survive 2-3. Getting more Vit is mostly pointless as long as you're keeping your EHP around or above 118k or so to make the best use of Force Armor. You might even be able to DROP some vit since your resists are relatively high for the spec. A little more health regen might make your life a little easier since it helps you replenish your health between packs or while you're running from some of the annoying ranged mobs who just took 2/3 of your health away before you could see them. Happens all too often on Siegebreaker runs... Anywhere from 500 to 1k life/second should be effective, and noticable. For a few runs I used almost no life regen and I really noticed the difference, opting to even gear for it on a few spots to make life easier.
If you haven't tried it yet, I'd actually try farming Act 1. Yes you can farm A3 with that gear, but A1 is so much easier and less annoying that you can basically face tank the whole act and ignore kiting for the most part with that dps. I switched from A3 to A1 farming a week or two ago and I get more high level rares per hour then I did on Act 3, plus more gold.
Im not sure how you struggle, my stats are alot worse and i have no issues. I still die in 4-5 hits, and i do use a shield so i guess that makes the big diffrence. Beyond that though i truly have no issues with kiting only mob that tends to kill me are the spearmans, and the soul rippers. Sometimes the demonic terrors aswell depending on the affix.

Infinite time warp 20% damage + infinite frost nova 15% damage
=
"a wasted passive"
alternatively infinite explosive blast, constant waves of force.
