hey guys, ive come to this dilemma and am curious what other wizards are up to these days.
i have been killing siege breaker still after clearing all 3 keep depths, stonefort, try to get 2 champs from that korsikk bridge wp, then do the cave. then proceed to killing siege. takes around an hour to do.
my question is, is it more efficient to just get 5 stacks asap and kill siege, then repeat?
or is it better to farm cydea/azmo [ get 5 stacks from keep depth and stonefort then proceed to clearing ]
I've recently switched from Siegebreaker runs to Act 1 Butcher runs. It takes me less time to run to Warden and Butcher, plus run through some of the other early areas killing whatever elites I can find quickly. I'm averaging almost a rare a minute drop rate on my runs with 50k dps and no MF (intentionally running no MF to see how MF affects rare drops from elites) and about 2500 gold per minute with no gold find gear. I'm not saying those stats are amazing, just giving you some info for reference. I could definitely do better but I'm just now getting used to the runs and still fine-tuning my route.
When running Siegebreaker I didn't time myself but I got much fewer rares because the elites were much more annoying for me so I'd usually just clear to Siegebreaker, killing some 5-8 elite groups on the way, then port to the area around Ghom and try and find some elites to kill but most of the time only got around 10-20 rares per run, breaking even on gold after repairs. I never tried Azmo runs though occasionally cleared a little past Siegebreaker until I found some Phasebeast elites or other annoying group that stopped me from progressing all the way to Azmo.
The idea is while Act 1 drops the ilvl 62-63 less frequently than A3, you can likely kill elites much faster than A3 and thus get as many if not more higher level drops in the same amount of time. Plus you can easily swap to a couple MF items for the whole run and not have to worry about swapping before killing elites (and elites die fast in A1 with 50k+ dps). The extra gold from the other rares, even if you just vend them, is an added bonus.
I've actually been wondering myself just how efficient it is to run A1 with or without MF vs A3 (without MF) and am in the process of collecting data to compare.
I run with 280 MF unbuffed, before swapping. I skip areas that I noticed take me a long time and are annoying, that means: Keep level 1, battlements and the icefall cave/frost caverns if I see the leaper elites. I don't bother fully exploring the two open areas between areat gate and the bridge. I kill an elite pack every 4-6minutes. With high MF I dont mind killing white mobs especially in big packs.

Max MF with Wand and offhand and in all slots, ALL ROLLED MAX, is 254 unbuffed. Furthermore you're telling me you kill a champion pack in 4-6 minutes with this "280 magic find unbuffed".

you forget about mf boost from helper and the gem you can socket on a helm, also in act 1 is quite possible to kill champion packs as they die like flies.

I'm calling bullshit
Although I'm not a wizard (playing barbarian) I do run my regular gear with 222% mf unbuffed (297% with valor) and I'm farming act3 killing a rare pack in 12-20 seconds usually and generally a rare pack every 3 min or so (I skip all white mobs though).
Since its possible with a barbarian I assume its possible with a wizard so don't be so quick to flame him
2 elites is better than 1 boss, however the time it takes to get from 1 elite to the next, killing white mobs, is my concern.
you could know all of the 'good elite spots' but say keep depths, u cant really skip around in there, its fairly linear
This is where I disagree. Mith my MF I get tons of rares and blues blowing up regular mobs while farming. I used to go through A1 Leoric manner > festering woods > cemetery + crypts > then to jailer and butcher just killing elite packs. But since I have gone to clearing the whole areas I have started gaining more GPH(gold per hour) and more RPH(rares per hour).

Would be interested to see this 12-20second kill. Unless your at 80k dps then never mind.

Curious, why did you even bother to make this post? Note to yourself in the future - as rares have up to 6 prefixes/suffixes, it's perfectly reasonable to have endgame gear with MF on each slot (since only 3-5 of them are relevant on a particular item). The guy you quoted is obviously someone who has maximized this. Haters gonna hate?
Quick elite pack kills like that are definitely possible with cooldowns. The barbarian who posted is probably a dps spec and pops wrath of the berserker and earthquake on the elites and just blows them up. As a wizard I sometimes farm with an archon spec and I can definitely kill an act 3 elite pack in 10-15 seconds, the only trick is being able to stand still for that long to kill them without dying to mortars or something.
well with 82k damage you can level some elites in litterally a global..... for the love of missile dampening throw out your orbs hit archon and /agro instant dead mobs xD

Crusader DPS and EHP Spreadsheet, meant for Crusaders
My Wizard
I agree with Fischer, 2 elites >= 1 boss, so you can end with a boss if you like, but killing elites is the way to go.

You obviously have never played this game. 280 Magic find unbuffed? Lol OK. Go to this website that I can't post http: // www.d3rmt.com/guides/diablo-3-item-stat-maximum-values/

He's playing a Barbarian; Barbs can drop an A3 elite pack in <15 seconds once they hit 35k DPS or so.
