If you spend some money gearing your Templar he basically never dies. Mine has 130k hp, 250ish resist all and 2500 armor and he is alive 95% of the time, healing/regenning/taunting.

Wait ... you can give your followers gear? Hey ... try pulling my other leg next ... I want them to both be the same size!
Templar just rushes in and dies, the enchantress atleast gives you an armor buff and the 3% attack speed is nice when she's alive, granted that's not often.
Regarding LoH, nearly every spell triggers LoH, there's a detailed list about the coefficients of the procc on the us forums: http://us.battle.net...49154265?page=1 .

lol. I hope you're kidding? Yes you can give followers gear, what do you think those follower tokens are for? Plus, weapons, rings and amulets.

Armor buff seems to stay on when she's down?
The attack speed buff doesn't stay. Never checked the armor buff, just assumed it went away when she died along with the attack speed..

Wanted to add some clarification concerning the enchantress, which is my favorite follower. The attack speed buff is only active when she is alive, but the armor buff never disappears. Make sure to spec erosion for her as well.
With about a 500k investment, the Enchantress can become as or more powerful than a venom hydra, and unlike the hydra, she gives you buffs as well. Something to note is that all stats on followers are multiplied by 3.5 (or something like that... I think) on the follower, so invest in some high int blue rings and amulet (with some vit), then go search for a high dps / high int 2h blue weapon. No stat besides int and vit matters much. I spent about 500k on my follower and got her up to about 5k dps. With erosion, she can clear inferno packs of monsters without my help.
Hope that helps.
edit : I also wanted to add that if you buy a cold damage weapon for them, your follower can snare the enemies with every hit. VERY useful.
QFT, also scoundrel better than enchantress, wtf does the armor matter if you are kiting anyways... i would rather have a free snare.
I can make six mistakes, and it takes three windups to kill me. How many can you?
lets see, force armor pretty much negates the need for any sort of defensive stats with around 38khp.... and as for mistakes, i usually don't make them... six in one go would require a kid unplugging my mouse or something...

I stopped using Force Armor when I realized Prismatic actually makes me take less damage. You don't get the protection from the big wind-up attacks, but that is more than made up for by the protection from reflect/electrified/molten/etc that would slowly whittle my health away without taking 35% chunks. This is with ~40k hp, and half the time I don't even get the Illusionist procs when I get trapped by wallers. And I only have 600 res all with the buff up. In this case, the Enchantress armor buff makes me take even less damage, and the Templar's heal is just a drop in the bucket.

Which merc are most of you guys using? Im currently using the templar, but I see most people going the enchantress route. Does she help all that much?
Second... Does life on hit apply to spells?. All of them? Which ones if not all. And what about AoE?
edit: I guess thats like 6 questions, but some are just little ones

Wowzers. Might want to try clicking on your follower's portrait sometime...
