I've been lurking for a while and have decided to share the build I've been using in Inferno lately. It's a variation on the Arcane/Termporal Flux build. Not too sure if this has been posted before.
You're looking for crit, crit dmg, and AP on crit gear (standard stuff).
Notes:
- Arcane Torrent has more efficient DMG / AP spent
- You can still kite
- Arcane Torrent w/ Disruption synergizes really well with itself and Arcane Hydra (bonus damage to arcane)
- 3 Torrents per "cast", and each torrent can crit. Combine with Arcane Hydra, you have more chances to crit because there are more "shots" that can crit. With about 22% crit, it sometimes feels like Arcane Torrent is a signature spell. It has high sustainability.
- Torrents require more precision to fire, but you can aim it to hit monsters behind the front line. You can also target the boss in invulnerable packs.
- Torrents don't travel in a straight-line, but they also don't "travel". The function almost like mortars
My gear isn't the greatest either.
30K DPS, 30K HP, 22% Crit, 168% crit dmg. I'm farming A3 regularly.

My only problem with them is how hard it is to kite with them. If I move right after I fire off the torrent, they follow my cursor and change their direction to aim away from the enemy...
Very cool build. I loved torrent in the lower levels, but never found a way to use it in inferno. I must try this! What are your other stats if you don't mind? I have similar HP/DPS stats but had trouble in A3 and went back to A2 using AO or Blizz/Hydra builds. My one big thing my gear is missing is arcane energy on hit... that might be my big weakness I bet.
My Stats:
1629 Int
844 Vit
2700 Armor (unbuffed)
31K dmg (unbufed)
1.48 attacks per second
22% crit chance (25% when I run with the scoundrel)
+ 19 AP on crit
187% crit damage
~300 resists
When it comes to kiting, the animation from the spell is a bit deceiving. It looks like the spell follows your cursor, but in actual fact it's hitting exactly where you "clicked". You can confirm this by casting and moving your cursor quickly - look at the ground where you clicked and you'll see the explosions. Test it on mobs as well. This makes it very good for kiting actually.
Another note for kiting, because of the way the spell "travels", it works much better with Temporal Flux than Orb. Orb needs to travel to reach it's target - so the further the target, the longer the travel. Torrent doesn't do that, travel time is always the same, no matter the distance.
Orb is a good build, but has some limitations I wanted to address:
1) 20 AP per cast. I find myself waiting to recharge AP very often. Torrent, even though it says 20 AP, is actually less per cast (I think it's 10). This allows you more shots, and thus more chances to gain AP on crit.
2) Orb isn't very efficent AP-wise for single target DPS. Orb works great in large packs because the more monsters that get splashed, the more chance for crits.
3) There are times when you want to precision target a monster (ie. fallen shaman, invul minion pack boss, lowest health champion). This is isn't easy to do with Orb (unless you rune celestial). Another benefit to this is that you'll have a better time shooting over ledges.
Very good spell analysis. I absolutely love it when people go against popular builds and find all the good stuff out. Looks like crit dmg and arcane power on crit is crucial. I'm at about 32% crit chance, 100% crit dmg, but no AP on crit. Time to go shopping! Thx again.
My only problem with them is how hard it is to kite with them. If I move right after I fire off the torrent, they follow my cursor and change their direction to aim away from the enemy...
I think this is due to latency, it happens in a lot of my spells when I'm kiting. Anyways, I found that although the animation "misses", the damage still applies in the place where you clicked. Maybe that's the problem.
I've been thinking for weeks that Disruption is by far under-appreciated and that entire builds will arise around Disruption because it gives a huge damage boon to so much of our other spells.
Thanks once again. I was able to get past a fair bit of Act III for the first time ever using your build. I had tried arcane orb builds, blizz/venomhydra, etc. My stats ended up being similar to yours, but less crit % damage and lacking on resists. Still, what a fun build and it works!
But when I got to the dungeon part before Ghom, I had to switch it up for a super defensive build (fracture, 5xmirror image rune, diam skin, Galv.Ward, etc.) with blizz/venom hydra to get past it. All those ranged elites and soulrippers were killing me. Now I'm at Ghom and he's destroying me... trying to figure out if I can beat him without better gear. Seems like I need more resists with decent dps.
Anyway, I look forward to going back to your build once I get past Ghom and maybe get a little better gear.
I've always had trouble with those. I don't think I have the gear to deal with them too well. Good thing is that I generally don't run into lashers of phasebeasts on my usual farm routes. Arreat Crater lvl 1 is as far as I take it most of the time, though if I'm with some friends, we'll try to do Cydaea.
OMG is this build good for ACT I if you have slightly better than ACT I gear. For the first time ever I put on 100% of my magic find gear and was able to progress quickly though an inferno Act. Thank you so much for this build, I made 350k gold last night in no time (not including a couple of decent drops that should sell for a lot), and it was fun.
Used a build similar to this one on my first time in Act 1. The Hydra damage is so high.
I swapped Temporal Flux for Power Hungry after realizing that when against elites that are naturally fast, it feels like it doesn't help at all. I also had to drop my gear with AP on crit and crit chance in favor of decent stats and resists. Power Hungry felt like a decent passive, since I'd burst down 1 of the champions or one of the rare's minions and recover a lot of AP doing it.

Is this farming up to siege breaker?
