im going to start by posting my stats and build:
int: 1115
vitality: 1126
dmg: 10.9
dmg reduction: 48.2
physical 142
cold 154
fire 112
lightning 184

arcane holy 148
using magic missle, teleport, diamond skin, blizz, energy armor, hydra. passives are blur, evoction and arcane dynamo
alright so my question flat out is: is this good enough? i sort of get blown up, however i honestly have farmed act 1 inferno as much as humanly capable, and have a difficult time affording anything with all resist without giving up major hp or dmg. Help!!!!
Force Armor no longer reduces the damage of attacks that would do 100% or more of your health. So you can and likely will still get one shot from time to time.

it still reduces the damage in this circumstance. If a hit causes FA to absorb 100% of your health then the leftover damage bleeds through.
So if the damage you receive will be the same for a hit ranging from 35% - 135% of your total health, but if the hit is 140% then you'll receive 40% damage.
To answer the OP, it's been a little rough but my I've made it to Belial on my wizard and sitting at about 28k health and i forget my base damage but 27.7k with force weapon on, 200 all resistances.
I've found that it's super effective to run illusionist + mirror image:duplicate. Having a virtually spammable 5man meat shield is pretty amazing
Considering Force Armor absorbs 100% of your health and nothing more, it can only absorbs say, 35k health.
If switching to Prismatic Armor (40% resistance bonus) means your Effective Health goes up by more than 40k, it probably means that it'll prevent as much damage as FA did.

That's 35k PER HIT that FA can absorb, let's not forget that. So in two hits it can absorb 70k and so on and so forth. Also, I'm curious what the numbers would have to be for prismatic armor to actually add 40k effective health, that seems a bit extreme
im going to start by posting my stats and build...
I keep posting this in every "Inferno" thread - gear-based damage reduction does not solve any problems in Inferno past A1. I've seen a monk tank with 50k HP, about 700 all resists and all his survival abilities getting gibbed in 2 seconds by elites in A2. So, again - damage reduction is not the answer. Not getting hit is. The only thing that can get you to Diablo is a kiting skill. And a lot of patience, because you'll still die a lot and you'll still have to skip some packs even if you kite like an absolute boss.
So, my advice is: get as much damage (good weapon, a lot of intellect, crit or haste or both) as you can, get one of those builds that people post in this forum and mess aroung with them. I personally didn't like any of them, but there's some idea behind any viable build and those ideas are useful when assembling your own build.

Say, that "Getting Gibbed in 2 seconds", wouldnt it be from a Lacuni Warrior by any chances? Lacuni's innate skill is to bypass your armor/resists, so yes, damage reduction IS the way to go.
Ever since i geared up to be more tanky, i'm actually progressing and enjoying it. It feels like Act 1ish. And no, i didnt use the AH to get A4 gear.
I have 8k hp maybe 100-200 resists and 73k dps. I am currently in a4 inferno / inferno pony. I stopped giving a crap about resists and hp when things were one shotting me through force armor a majority of the time. Now I just play by not getting hit and not letting myself get in stupid situations. For the attacks that deal low damage that I can survive (like electricty and damage reflect) I have diamond skin.
It's fine if you want to go a more defensive route but you still have to be able to deal a lot of damge. 10k dps is way too low imo.
[edit] I rarely outright skip packs, but there are some things that i just don't want to deal with. champion oppressors and invulnerable are the two things I tend to avoid when possible.

He was gibbed by all sorts of things. Pretty much by all elites and even some normal mobs in A2 and by literally everything in A3.
Could you post your current stats and you progress? I tried physical resistance + armor + vitality one day. What I ended up with was ~40k HP, ~7500 armor with a shield (71% reduction to all damage) and 878 physical resistance (74,5% less physical damage) and I'm 100% sure you can't tank melee mobs in A3 with those stats. You either have WAY better defensive stats or you're not in A3 yet or you're making that "feel A1-ish" thing up.

The 20% melee damage reduction isn't going to stop you from getting one shot, so you don't need it.
