The later patches in D2 that involved synergies really nerfed frozen orb. While it was the orginal cool looking/dominant spell, it had become a weak brittle old man of a skill. The D3 put it out of its misery rather than give it reconstructive surgery.

Isn't "Disintergrate" with "Chaos Nexus with Temporal Flux nearly the same than Frozen Orb? One Main Blast to the front, everything around you and everything is slowed...
Arcane Orb just hits the front direction...
Well your idea of dis. with chaoe nexus just makes YOUR character spit out aoe arcane damage. But arcane orb that pierces to AOE and also slows is the closest thing to frozen orb.
And also BTW frozen orb was still damn strong with synergies. I've made a couple sorces using it as a main spell with no problem.
I liked the spell, and it certainly will be missed. However, change is good and should be welcomed. At least the spell can be somewhat replicated, as explained in the examples above.
I have to say, after trying out Celestial Orb on the emulator, it is probably one of my favorite visual skills (and has a good radius on it as well). Something about casting forth a whirling galaxy is very epic.
Definitely going to be using it with Temporal Flux, at least for a while. Should make a great orb substitute, and we can abuse Flux with Disintegrate, Magic Missile or even the Arcane Hydra as well.
Worst presentation of an argument ever. 1) emanating shocks from yourself is not the same thing. 2) in less than ten words you transformed my opinion of you from possibly being a mature adult to the idea that you're a 5 year old - "my idea is better" is never the correct thing to say
Meteorb sorc build... Oh how I abused your broken utility and damage for so long...

Awesome spell. D2 was such a great game interm of new and inovating abilities, Frozen Orb surely was one of those.
I don't know, a lot of RPGs borrow inspiration from ones that came before it. I know there was a spell called Frozen Orb in Baldur's Gate although I'm sure it worked differently.
In D3, it's the same thing, even the skills that may seem really fresh and unique, like Slow Time, are around in other games (Gothic 3).
I do believe that D3 is more unique than usual though with some of it's skills. Frozen Orb was very fun though I will agree with that. I think there are a ton of spells equally as fun or even more so in D3.
You're delusional.
This.
I'm glad there's not a ton of overlap with spells. This is Diablo 3, not Diablo 2.5
Celestial Orb
Arcane Orb
Temporal Flux

Same shit!
PS: Yes I know you have to use more than one skill, but given the fact that diablo2 focused on using 2 skills I think its more than a fair substitute.

Wont we all
Too bad it didn't happen
