Is it just me or is the wizard asian?!! (male and or female)
According to the scriptures - correct me if I am wrong - the following passage refers to the Wizard's origin:
"Well, it seems they neglected to teach our wizard manners on her native island of Xiansai, for she was a rude and uncooperative student from the very beginning."
Xiansai certainly sounds like some Asian/Oriental country to me.
NOTE: I AM NOT A RACIST, I'm just trying to establish what races the characters are. In fact, I'm Asian and honestly, I'm a little excited to find out that the Wizard may be Asian as well.
What do you guys think the Wizard's race/origin is??
You somewhat asked and answered your question at the same time
But yes, I'd agree and say that she looks slightly 'Asian'. And as you said the island that she hails from also sounds quite like an eastern/oriental influence.

"So you have come here for information? I have some for you..."

Hahaha I guess I did . What do you think about the Male Wizard?
all of them... in the first trailer they make a close up to her and you see she is Asian...
so good for you sir!! you have your Asian charachter
fyi: there where a few threads in wich we were discussing what would be the next class based on the diferent ethnicities of the four we already know...
Actually she's not from Asia, so no she's not Asian.
She's from sanctuary.
And no the WD is not from Africa...so he's not African.
He's from sanctuary.
Does it really matter what the 'real' background of the characters are?
I mean if you were an Asian and you could summon lightning or an African who could summon zombie dogs, I would understand...
But I haven't yet met any that could do it.
So can we just stick with sanctuary here....
It shouldn't matter what 'real background' the characters have. You got a mixture of ethnicity in every country. So it's time we actually move forward and stop thinking...hey all Africans are black....or some other such ridiculous presumptions.

Yeah we all know that but we are relating the game to our actual world....
(still love that donkey sig)

Well it will not work( I mean relating the game to the real world).
1. it's a game. While some its inspirations must have come from the real world, nothing says that the inspiration was based on only one type of 'background'.
Look at the monk. Where will you place him? He's obviously from a mixture of backgrounds.
2.Mentioning Asian is just stereotypical thinking. Not all Asians have the 'general' similar traits associated with the wizard. We need to break out of this 'conformalism' and stop linking traits and color to a particular country or part of the world...
Oh and thanks mate. Donkey for the win.
@Junction- Ya baby...just need the zombie dogs now. xD

her key features are those of asian or oriental peoples, and as for the WD seeing as how he's black and he's a witch doctor which is only found on the african continent, south american tribal people call there healer a medicine man. that's where people are getting african from generaly speaking of course we know hes tagonzian.
if you were describing him to your friend that knew nothing about diablo what would you say?
also the monk I would have to say is a mixture between white/indian(INDIA)/and middle eastern cant quite distinguish
I would tell my friend that she's female and also she's an arrogant brat and can wield lightning, summon tornados and can do arcane magic.
That's all the description that anybody should need.
I mean who would want to play a char...because she has 'general Asian traits'(as you say) or because he's dark skinned? It's about how badass their abilities are.
I mean appearance matter not except when you get the game going and you need some cool armor for some eye candy.
At least it works out this way for me.

but what if he asked what she looked like, we are not saying appearence matters but that is how they look. You or I can not change that
You're thinking way too broad about this "background." For example in D2, the paladin was obviously black. Its true he may not be called "African-American" in Sanctuary, but there IS some sort of ethnicity going on. What would you say the ethnicity of the paladin would be??
And there is no conformity involved. I was just using a general ethnicity that would fit the Wizard. You and I both know that the wizard isn't from Asia, but has some sort of oriental ethnicity. Thats just you being a smartass. Of course the Wizard isn't "Asian" because they're not in "Asia."
Also, the developers of Blizzard had stated that the Monk consisted of some sort of European decent during a presentation at Blizzcon 2009.

Finally, Blizzard put in races and genders and such for a reason: DIVERSITY!!!
So the conclusion: the Wizard is of oriental decent.

I think what people mean to say is that the Wizard is mongloid and the Witch Doctor is negroid.
On another note, my asian friend can shoot lightning bolts.
no problem
