It's like Blizzard put this Wizard build for us on purpose. Why on earth would a Wizard have so many melee-oriented spells otherwise?
Execly.
Also i don't think a melee wiz will have easy access to powerhouse stuff like time bubble.
But i think skills like hydra will work very well with melee builds because the dps seens to stack very well.
I know there will be different difficulty settings but will there be a way to simply fly through and power level? Don't get me wrong, I love gameplay and story and all that but in examples like this, where I plan to make multiple characters, some being less practical builds than others and as such will not devote nor want to spend xxx amount of hours required to get a character to a normal level.
Like I will play the game normally but for a character like this that I won't want to be my main but want to experience a melee wizard or melee DH or any class not in it's intended purpose, will there be any way to just power level it?

I agree with feminism. I don't think that it's right that for every dollar a man makes, a women gets 70 cents. Why do I only get 30 cents and some chick gets the rest?
I actually enjoy the challenge of going through the game with an alternative underpowered build. That said I think the melee wizard could be quite powerful in D3. I'll probably roll one for my first character.
Yea it certainly seems like a much more viable option in D3. I'll at least try it out as a build, but I could see it being pretty underpowered early on, so I might have to wait until my Wiz is a high level.

A melee-ranged spell doesn't make it a melee attack. Most of what is described in this thread is a tank mage, not a melee mage. You'll be using items with "enhanced spell damage", not "enhanced damage" like the barbarian or demon hunter will be using.
I'm loving the idea of a melee wizard, especially after all the conversations on build limitations. Going with the idea that we're limited to one spell per tier idea:
Spectral Blade: first damage spell with melee range, plus I'm betting cool rune abilities.
Ice Armor: looking at talents it looks to be the biggest defense bonus and seemed center being in melee combat.
Frost Nova: gotta keep those pesky mobs from crowding my style.
Diamond Skin: for those moments when you need some breathing room.
Slow Time: CC ability to give me time to kill these fools.
Magic Weapon: this is going to make melee hurt... The bad guys.
Teleport: bee line to the commanding mobs. Also I'm certain that there is going to be some damage potential with runes.
I'm definitely going to be playing a melee sorceress, seeing as how there are no druids playable in Diablo III =S
It will be interesting to see how they play out, and also if their balance will be just right, not to squishy, and not too much of a cannon.
I haven't really looked into how i think that blizzard will work the stat points, will there be dexterity, accounting towards hit and max block in D3?
These new wizard skills are definitely going to revive melee sorcs, without a doubt, and hopefully they are just as awesome as the ones on D2 which had so much of my time devoted to them >.>
The wizards have really good skill placements for these builds, too. =o
