Hey, I've got a question. What do you think is the best trial spec for wizards right now? I really, really hate trials and they are much worse than being at work, but before some nice grifts doing at least some trials is inevitable. In the previous eras I used to do trials on my dh because of extreme power difference, wizard got boosted a lot in this patch and is very powerful so it may be the other way around now. But I'm not sure which spec will suit trials best, meteor lure, usual hydra tal rasha, or something else. Anyone wants to share some experience and/or ideas? And please, no 'go play in a group' responses, I play solo and almost none of my friends play diablo anymore (I play only from time to time, too).
A tal'rasha meteor heavy variant with the smoldering core appears to be best.
Outside of that the best way to easily farm a lot of high lvl keys is to speed-farm greater rifts in a group (there are many groups for it). You find a speedfarm group 10 levels below the keys you try to obtain. This saves you a lot of hassle and has the added advantage of giving you much needed xp and gear because speedfarming greaters is the best way to farm xp/gear up at the moment anyway so you'll have to do it anyway.
For solo I believe Delrasha is the best, been able to get ~52s consistently. If you just want low keys for speed runs, its also great.
Keep 3 slow times up in a triangle fashion, and spam twister/signature to refresh cooldowns and pull mobs in the center. At later waves add Black Hole for 4th stack and additional CC. You should be easily able to go 1-7-13-19-25-31-37-43 every time.
If you need higher, at this point just move out of the middle and draw a line of Slow Times so mobs walk towards you and then leash back inside it. And yeah its pretty pointless as mentioned above, since you're much better off stopping at 40-45 and then upgrading them in a group (you don't need friends for that, there are speed runs going on all the time, just join an appropriate community). If you want even higher keys, well I don't think anyone can do it atm. Maybe some DH build involving slowball/Johan?

Tbh what I would really like are 54-55 ^^ I don't have much time to play but in previous eras I managed to get top 100 and wanted to keep it that way in this era as well, but then I needed a 46-47 key, which I could easily get on my dh, not 54... If what you say is correct (and I think it is) the only way to get them is playing in a group, and I don't like doing so, so I guess I won't be going for the higher rifts until they change trial system.
If you don't play in a group at all, then yeah its a well known fact that you simply can't compete for high solo ranks.
I can't imagine why you'd be so opposed to it, how else are you going to get your paragons?
e: okay it seems that it is possible to go higher (even up to 60 reportedly?) with SS/Hydra, but it requires a lot of RNG with no leaping mobs, no sand dwellers, no mobs afk'ing on the far side, etc.

I can get 53/54 keys, but then i hit a ceiling.
spec: full dmg dual hydra with ancient SS
core item is the S3 bracers to keep them grouped in middle imo.
