hi guys, need some expert advice. im using a gifted ancient devastor now. not sure if i should gift the ancient SS and use it instead? the SS has poison damage, does it go well with firebird dot? shld i stick with SS or devastator? thanks in advance!
The Ancient SS will be much better, it is giving you a second hydra that should be doing over 500% dmg/sec, together that is over 1000% weapon dmg/sec with the right gear and set up(mine are doing 543% each) An Ancient Serpent Sparker is the best weapon in the game for a Wizard. Only Exception would be solo play, where a Furnace/Maximus might be better. But you gain so many more stats using SS/OH, Personally from what I have tested it doesn't even really keep up.
You will want to roll the AS for dmg%, Because AS doesn't really effect anything much for a FB wiz, so keeping the vit is a huge D boost or you could re roll the Posion dmg higher and get Arcane, lighnting or cold so it will count as another 5% dmg for you and in group play while you use Elemental Exposure and then use gift. The posion damage doesn't effect anything, Except what I just said before about Elemental Exposure. Last option, but definitely not the route you should go, would be roll the vit off for dmg% because it will make the weapon look godly lol but the AS would be a wasted stat and you would not benefit at all from going this route except for flashiness.
haha dont have luck with furnace.. so i guess ill use my last gift on the SS and reroll the AS for %dmg since the poison damage doesnt affect anything..
thanks for the advice
Very welcome. It is a BiS weapon, Some other advice,
The build/items you will want to go for now with that weapon for Pure DPS output and group play with Lockdown WD is
RoRG-Intel/AS/CHD/socket
Firebird OH- Wep dmg/fire%/intel/CC/hydra%( hard to get perfect rolls)
Witching Hour- intel/vit or electucute/AS/CHD
SoJ-Fire%/socket/Edmg/intel OR CHD/CC(again very rare to get thos rolls)
Magefist-Fire%/intel/vit/CHD/CC
Cindercoat-Fire%/intel/Hydra%/3sockets
Ammy with Fire%/CC/CHD/socket..Once again not easy to come by but if you can BIS, If not intel will fill in for the fire%, the Endless Walk set(ring and ammy) is also an option to use and is better than SoJ with the right gear. But I won't get crazy into what possible build variations. There are about 2-4 setups you could build around.
Also you want to try and get Hydra% on shoulders/Electrocute on belt and pants.
And you will want to use Arcane dynamo to power up your hydra's/Blizzard/and blackhole or Molten Impact(meteor) by another +60%dmg to tho skills.
But like I said, this is just advice! Go out there with whatever items/build you use and slay some demons!! Good luck.
No it does not, it only makes Hydra attack faster, it doesn't increase it's damage.
They did allow on the PTR that blazing hydra was going to scale with AS for damage, but they removed that, leaving Blazing hydra in the dust behind Mammoth.

The mammoths attack faster and the rivers stack, so yes it's going to do more damage.
That said, unless you're planning on the 3.04 hydra break point it's fine to keep the vitality since 2.47 is easily achievable elsewhere on your gear.
The rivers don't keep stacking, they only stack about 4-5 times until the damage reaches it peak, other wise the damage would keep going up and up no matter what. If the rivers Kept stacking on top of each other 20 times you would see every wizard using TnT and doing some insane damage. I have some of the best DPS as a wiz out there. I have a perfect TnT and have tested it countless times on single target enemies the damage doesn't keep stacking/increasing it maxes out. I just now tested it again, the magefist does more damage.
I'm not saying I couldn't be wrong here, because at first I also thought it would be better with more AS, But like I said I have a near perfect Trifecta TnT and have tested it. There is no damage increase. That is with 48% more AS for the hydra.I would really like some more information on this, because I can't see how my TnT wouldn't be doing more damage compared to my magefist? Unless the fire% damage just covers it?
Significantly increased the amount of Hydra attacks per cast
Attack Speed now affects how fast each Hydra head attacks
hydra attack speed does scale with our AS as patch notes state so I guess faster FB DoT cap and hydra DPS, but unless is it rolled AS, TnT does not affect our APS and since hydras do not count as pets, tnt leg affix does not work with hydra so ofc mage fist is better choiice since it has +fire dmg
I see post about it, I'm just not seeing the results in damage in the game. Maybe because the Magefist makes up for it or because the damage increase just isn't that significant. Not really sure. I will have to do some more research. Guess I am just kinda confused right now.
Hydra

That is what blizzard said in the patch. It says nothing about scaling damage with AS. Just that they attack faster or for Mammoth(cover more ground quicker)
Skill Rune - Blazing Hydra
Damage dealt over time no longer scales with Attack Speed. Then of course they took Damage scaling away from blazing with AS.

Hydra's do count as pets. TnT will affect them and you can clearly see them attacking faster using a TnT just not doing more damage. From what I see at lease.
From what I have seen from other posts, Hitting these "Higher breakpoints" Doesn't really result in damage increase. Because to reach those break points you have to give up to many stats on your gear..Crit hit chance, Crit hit damage, sockets, Fire%..ect. That in the end won't cover the damage outputting.
So all in all..no, getting more AS is really not worth it still for a hydra/FB wiz builds. Maybe more important for 2-hander builds, but for 1-hander/OH not really at all.

sure it maxes out! the rivers also despawn after some time, so the amount of attack speed you have determines how many rivers can be lying around simultaneously.
I don't think you guys are fully understanding what I am trying to explain.
Yes this is correct. It will cover more ground quickly using a TnT, but a magefist will make the hydra do more DPS and overall your DPS will be higher. A hydra with a 1-hander and OH will max out it's stacking on a target in around 5 secs.
I could see using a TnT possible for solo, because you want to cover more ground quicker( hit more enemies faster) but a Magefist will do more damage.

Mammoth Hydra's are the way to go?

If you don't have a really good pair of Tasker and theo gloves, then use the devastator and put the wand away for later.
A serpent Sparker will do more damage than using a Devastator by far.
