Today I want to theorycraft on a fully optimized fire Tall Man's Finger zombie dog. I stack elemental damage, skill damage, elite damage, ideal pet gear, Hellfire amulet, all zombie dog passives, and the new (and in my opinion, improved) Furnace, then show the damage output on Ghom and another elite.
Unbuffed, the dog will crit elites for 200m with 30m DoT ticks. With Big Bad Voodoo/Slam Dance, it can jump to 300m with 50m DoT ticks. Although a dog-only build isn't terribly viable, this opens up some interesting possibilities for pet builds which focus on the dog more than fetishes or Gargantuan. Enjoy!
(build calc not included because it's PTR and a theorycraft video, but the 'build' is shown in the video)
if that was the case, then killing petswouldnt have cleared lvl 100 greater rift in 15 seconds, and the gem wouldnt be 25% damage reduction for pets, and the community wouldnt have cried for a nerf on immortal pets on enforcer gem ( off: well fck you all who wanted it removed )
Blizz has mentioned they want to make pets scale in some in GR. Just hasn't been 100% confirmed or scheduled for release (as far as we know).
the dog is dealing the damage of 3 barbarian together
Eh, it's about the same in terms of gear. 3 fire IK barbs still deal more single target and AOE than dog. Remember that Ancients scale attack speed with your attack speed - WD pets scale damage with your attack speed. Therefore, Ancients will 'seem' to do less damage, but their dps is actually quite high because they can get to ridiculous attack speed breakpoints. Regardless, a hard hitting fully optimized TMF dog is a heavy gear/skill investment and it becomes the MAIN part of your build. I wouldn't say it's OP, but it is strong.
Only thing i'm not a fan off is the high cool downs of BBV and FA, especialy when not using GI, which i would say is almost mandatory when running BBV and FA. Trying the build at the moment id it great for farming single elite bosses, but the cd's are to high to make it realy viable in Grifts due to the amount of elites packs you get.
Yup, SMK makes this incredibly strong, which is why it's so desirable. I don't have one myself, but it's completely build changing. BBV/FA spam with SMK is just nuts.

I went out and came back in. Incoming damage was too high.
Furnace not required, this is just a proof of concept. Good Sun Keeper + offhand would work similarly.
