Hey guys I'm Debo, I Main the Witch Doctor class, ever since the beta for Diablo 3 Vanilla. Encouraging players to try out the Witch Doctor class, and enjoy Diablo 3 is my major focus. I started to do this by compiling my thoughts in guides, and streaming to provide information to those who seek it.
If allowed I'll be updating my guides through this post (if possible). If this isn't the place to post this type of information my apologies, I guess we will figure out another way.
**Increase Pet Damage for fetishes, Gargantuan, and Gargantuan Zombie Dog. Pretty Straight forward**
Shoulders: Aughilds Power
**+Combined with the fact were using Ring of Royal Grandeur, and Our shoulder/bracer slots are open this is an obvious choice.**
**+2 Piece set= 7% Decreased damage from melee/ranged attacks**
**+Ring of Royal Grandeur enables 3 piece set = 15% Increased Damage to elites, 15% Decreased Damage from elites.**
Gloves: Tasker and Theo
**+Increases attack speed for fetishes, Gargantuan, and Gargantuan Zombie Dog, with MOJ gives us T6 damage potential.**
Ring 1: Tall Mans Finger
**+Gives us a Gargantuan Zombie dog: Tanky, Absorbs 10% Dmg for Us, physical, does wonderful sustained damage.**
Ring 2: Ring of Royal Grandeur
**+Love it, or Hate it this ring is your best friend. Reduces set cost of all set items by 1, but nothing permited below 2 set pieces.**
Weapon: Star metal Kukri or Rhen'ho Flayer
**+Star Metal Kukri: Less Crowd Control, more Damage from BBV, a nice option, but you lose the "control" that flayer brings, and fetish generation potential.**
**+Rhen'ho Flayer: Crazy Fetish generation *check*, Crowd control *check*, Utility for solo, or group play this weapon has it all for the Hell tooth set.**
Off Hand: Uhkapian Serpent
**+Still looking for one myself (my other is dedicated to my Jade set), % damage as I take goes to my Super Tanky Zombie dog.... Thats already absorbing 10% of incoming damage to me? Gotta run it.**
Boots: Hell Tooth
**+Boots/Chest/Pants from Hell Tooth, gives us options to run End game pieces of geat that enables us to run T6**
Pants: Hell Tooth
**+Boots/Chest/Pants from Hell Tooth, gives us options to run End game pieces of geat that enables us to run T6**
**+Fleeting Strap: Strong Survivability Stats, and attack speed to help me generate fetishes.**
**+Harringtons: Strong Survivability Stats, and a very strong increase damage effect when triggered**
**+Witching Hour: Survivavility stats are lacking, but: Attack speed & Crit Damage on a belt make up for it.**
Chest: Hell Tooth
**+Boots/Chest/Pants from Hell Tooth, gives us options to run End game pieces of geat that enables us to run T6**
Bracer: Aughild's Search
**+Combined with the fact were using Ring of Royal Grandeur, and Our shoulder/bracer slots are open this is an obvious choice.**
**+2 Piece set= 7% Decreased damage from melee/ranged attacks**
**+Ring of Royal Grandeur enables 3 piece set = 15% Increased Damage to elites, 15% Decreased Damage from elites. **
Necklace: Any Amulet with Trifecta Stats or Phys Ele% dmg , Int, CC, CHD
**+As long as you have Trifecta stats running, or Ele Crit/Crit dmg amulet this will round out everything.**
**Skill build breakdown:**
**Active Skills:**
Spirit walk- "Jaunt"
**+Extended time in the spirit realm by 3 seconds, sounds good to me. Since we don't use alot of mana for this build it is a straight forward decision on this rune choice.**
Zombie dog- "Life Link"
**+Physical elemental property, Absorbs 10% of the Damage we take, and distributes it to our Gargantuan Super Tanky Zombie dog.**
**+Gargantuan Zombie Dog effect from Tall mans finger: Tanky, provides solid sustainable dps to the Build, and enables successful use of "Life Link Rune".**
Gargantuan- "Wrathful Protector"
**+Ok I know he likes to "herp de derp", and it's a fire property rune, but hey Jerams + Task Theo + Big Bad Voodoo = Explosive Damage vs elites......when not Derping.**
**+To aid this I would, advice summoning the Wrathful protector directly next to the elite, to decrease "derping".**
Big Bad Voodoo- "Slam Dance"
**+30% Increased damage, on top of the 20% increased attack speeed? We have our "Elite killing" spell.**
Plague of Toads- "Addling Toads"
**+Combined with Rhen'ho Flayer, we have Crowd Control, and extreme Fetish generation sure it's poison property, but the CC potential on Elites is amazing.**
**+Also with Zombie wall, if played correctly you provided utility, and crowd control over almost any situation that arises in solo or grou play. **
Zombie Wall- "Wrecking Crew"
**+Were running only the 4 piece set for Hell Tooth, which provides a 2 second reduction on Zombie wall. This allows for our zombie wall to be cast every 6 seconds on the field of battle.**
**+6 Piece set is nice, however for end game damage potential, we reduce the set by 2 pieces, take the low cool down rate on ZW, and run Jeram, and Task and Theo to give us T6 damage potential.**
**+Zombie Wall + Low Cool Down + Taunting effect + Rhen'ho Flayer + Addiling Toads = Max Fetish Generation, protection & survivability, and massive amounts of utility.**
**Passive Skills**
Pierce the Veil:
**+20% increased damage, at the cost of 30% increased mana cost? We don't even use mana in this build, sounds like a winner.**
Fetish Sycophants
**+10% Chance to generate a Fetish on spell cast (that deals damage), and the fetishes are physical property. Rhen'ho Flayer with addiling toads also generates max fetishes in no time.**
**+Fetishes, are effected by Jeram, Task & Theo gloves, and will be protected by Zombie Wall wrecking crew taunting ability.**
Zombie Handler
**+Increases HP of our Zombie dog, Gargantuan, and personal HP by 20%, since our zombie dog is going to be taking a % our damage for us, and overral increases in toughness it's a no brainer.**
**+1 To Zombie dogs = More Dps for our Gargantuan Dog.**
Midnight Feast
**+50% increase Damage to Gargantuan, and Zombie Gargantuan Dog. Jerams + this skill = 120%-150% Increase damage total.
**+1 To Zombie dogs = More Dps for our Gargantuan Dog.**
Hard to call 4/6 set a "Helltooth end-game guide" ... It's just pretty much standard pet doctor with crappy Hellthooth's instead of Blackthrone's...
End game= Using this set to the best of my ability at T6.
I'm not Blizzard, I did not design the set unfortunately. But people from the community asked me to make a video with it on T6, as efficient as I could get it.
Also int he video I repeat multiple times that it prob won't be at the level of Jeram Builds, and Jades until blizzard fixes either ZW or the set.
when you get lemons sir, you make lemonade........ or in this case you cast zombie wall
So you didn't try the build and either didn't watch the video, or didn't listen to what Debo said, or didn't understand what he said. But you just wanted to post something negative about a guide he took the time and trouble to put together -- a guide where he clearly explained the limitations of the build. OK.
I tried this build last night. Just on T4, mind you...but it was fun and effective. As pointed out in the guide, the zombie wall actually offers some pretty nice control over mobs, which I found useful for things like mallet lords. I appreciated the guide; it encouraged me to try something a little different just for fun, and it turned out to be a pretty decent little build. As the guide points out, it doesn't have the full power of a functional endgame set, but we all know that some sets need re-tuning. I hope this will be one of them. In the meantime, it can absolutely be used, and absolutely is effective.

I don't even run Blackthorne's set bonus really; it's useless. I find the Hexing Pants of Mr. Yan much better. Kadala gives them out often. So much easier to do great damage with those. Also, I'm shooting for some Ice Climbers now. Those babies are the bomb.
Oh ok... Blackthorne useless ? Hexing Pants ? Oh i see... We got a real PRO here
Why do you think they are bad? As a pet doctor you're going to do more damage literally running in a circle to gain the +25% bonus while your pets go, than sitting there casting rain of toads for irrelevant numbers.

BT set useless? 3pc+rrog is prob one of the best set bonuses in the game, I am unsure what you're getting at?
As for OP, very cool that you found a use for this build. Yea its not as fast as a full petdoc or jadedoc but its different and I am going to try it out, and it would be extremely useful in group play. Especially if you already have a jade and pet doc in game.

Blackthorns is for scrubs, that's worse than unity.
Not everyone is playing some silly bulids with RoT to use only... Honesty when i see someone using Garg instead of Soul Harvest or BBV without SMK... Seriously stop beeing blind by some "awesome" "cookie cutter" bulids and use your brain cells a bit...
There is easy way to make your Gruesome Feast stacks pretty much permament - just need to look at your skill bars a bit. Good luck finding it. Goodnight
you didn't even answer my question or anything in proximity to it....
edit: I asked why you thought hexing pants are bad for a pet doctor, I said nothing about gruesome feast, so thanks for the non sequitur

He didn't say Hexing Pants are bad, he only said BT isn't useless. Which you prefer is up to you imo.
Re: Helltooth...there are also some posts on the Blizz WD boards from folks experimenting with the Helltooth set, there is one poison-based variant that looks interesting; it uses the Grin Reaper helm.
In looking at responses here, I'd hope that people on these boards might be willing and able to be more thoughtful than to just trash-talk ("We've got a real PRO here") or dismiss something as being for "scrubs" without saying anything that actually has substance.
For any newer WDs trying to read this thread for the sake of information, the Blackthorne set bonus is actually quite useful even if it isn't amazing. Blackthorne is worth using, especially in combination with the Aughild set bonus. It's so solid that you could justify using it until the Zunimassa or Helltooth sets get re-worked. But I'm probably just a scrub
Leil, not always the case, in my case my soj didnt roll amazingly well but my rrog did...
So I went with the 100% all the time 20%+ dmg with my rrog in favor of my elite only 27% on my soj, now factor in the other BT set bonus's (not even considering all of the immunities)
+10% vs elites and-10% vs elites
Add it all up and with my setup my rrog+tmf+3pc bt is much better then my soj+tmf+non bt set. Sure rolls come into play, I just think BT gets a bad wrap becaues it drops so often for people (and the ammy.boots suck) but I still think they are veryusable.

The easiest affixes in game to dodge are negated by this. At high torment those affixes are just as easy to dodge/negate through the use of legendary ammulets which occupy one slot as opposed to a total of four, and in the case of the ammulet can be trifecta with an elemental bonus %. Using blackthorns will not save you from the the much longer list of affixes which are much more common at high torment.
The gain of the immunity and 10% to elites is not worth what you lose in dropping one of SoJ/TMF for a pet build. This should be obvious to anyone who's been at max level for over a week. Even at T6 the affixes covered by the Blackthorns set are easily managed, either with practiced position or with the use of a legendary ammulet, and proper skill usage.
Unity + Uhkapian + life link dogs. Whoever says that WD needs any kind of survival beyond this needs to uninstall the game and go play pokemon. Blackthorne is a badnot a good set. Takes away too many slots (and too important ones) and offers very few stuff back. The immunity affixes it offers are perhaps the weakest ones, unless you play with 3 apm and prefer to sit around the splosions. Give me immunity to fire chains/electrocute/arcane laser and we can be friends. Elite damage bonus is managed with soj + aughils and maybe sunkeeper and the elite damage prevention has diminishing returns. Bonus gold and 250 vit I'm not even considering.
Main thing people need to understand is this: The best form of defense in this game is more damage. The faster you clear mobs, the less damage you will take. Plus the faster you kill mobs, the faster you will perform, ergo level up, ergo loot, ergo strengthen your character further. When in doubt, always go for more damage. That's why hexxing pants are a BiS for pet specs, and no matter how easy it has been to gear and play, FS will never beat a proper zuni build in party games. When in solo, why even consider running anything other than jade doc?
This guy hits the subject bang on.
Why play anything other than jade? I hate dying to insane reflect damage on T6. Can't really stand the playstyle of that spec either but that's a personal thing. I use the spec to run bounties for speed works as advertised which is very well. Also glad to see so many people speak up for actual playcraft instead of trying to find a way to hold down Rain of Toads or some damn thing and just mongo through damage, instead of actually playing around mechanics or working on positioning, regarding Blackthorns.
Not everyone is playing some silly bulids with RoT to use only... Honesty when i see someone using Garg instead of Soul Harvest or BBV without SMK... Seriously stop beeing blind by some "awesome" "cookie cutter" bulids and use your brain cells a bit...

Several things here, one there are two passive talents that take BBV cd way down. You have the option of putting a small amount of CDR on your gear. SMK is not needed for BBV. Remove head from ass.
If you are really suggesting globe dogger as an option for T6.......guess you'll just have to crank the slider and find out. It may work for you, but a lot of those ' cookie cutter" builds are the work of several people over the course of a few months. The builds make sense, have synergy and are engaging. As opposed to any globe/zero dog build. I've tried that too at high torment I hope blizzard never ever makes that a main stay spec. Awful.
