I've been running this build, but I'm working towards a Tall Man's Big Dog build. This is a decent build, but Soul Harvest does leave me hanging sometimes. I've swapped out Gruesome Feast for Spirit Vessel. Why? Because it reduces the CD on Spirit Walk and Soul Harvest.
I just started up with my WD @ lv 70 and was just curious why it seems no one runs Zombie Dogs/Tall Man in their builds?
I think it depends what route you go with gearing - Set's + RoRG is very popular for obvious reasons and to leave out a SoJ seems, wrong, imo unless you have a pair of unity rings in which case certain sets become less needed so you might drop RoRG and go for Unity + SoJ or maybe you drop SoJ for unity. In comparison Tall Man's Finger just doesn't cut it unless you use all the passive's to super boost your GargDog, I cant imagine the return is that good, I could be wrong though.
And then ofc there is the issue of getting a TMF..
12:23 "Doombringer best in slot weapon" , doombringer % physical scales additively with mask of jeram , having 20% physical damage only boosts your fetishes dmg by about 10% ( 200% dmg => 220 % ) , starmetal kukri and rhen'ho flayer are the best weapons. Even a well rolled thunderfury beats a doombringer.
13:20 : Taking crit chance over attack speed , pets do actually deal more damage scaling on your personal attack speed , the attack speed is at a 2% AS per 1% crit value , attack speed is always the better choice than crit chance here for a physical pet WD.
13:37 Taking area damage before life on hit? Area damage doesn't work on pets , and rain of toads has an amazing life on hit ratio. also "you can go resource cost reduction" , I've never ever even droped before half mana using this build. Even gold find is more valuable.
interesting notes, Im not realy sure about your value of crit vs ias. Because you have to calculate it with crit dmg in mind so actualy the crit chance value changes alot depending on how much crit dmg youve got.
about area dmg: It works great on soul harvest and LoH is realy something useless compared to my playstyle.
I would say Doombringer > kukri by far what ive tested. I dont have fetish army and totem is stick to one place only so its not so big deal anyway. Rhenho flayer seems to be better a little bit. But thunderfury is a total junk
i also have a pet build, and a dot build, i have 2 sets of gear, i switch between the two to see better survivabilty/dps depending on what i am farming, if i am doing rifts vs doing bounties etc, it aucutally does matter quite a bit the intended target when playing to me anyways, i feel that i do a lot better with a dot build doing public rifts, than i do with pets for example, but solo farming and especially against bosses, pets are undeniably the best (again, for me)
I run a doombringer, but i also have a TF and shard of hate, i had been playing around with the shard of hate, and it seems to work well for the dot build, but TF does have the nice lightning procs, to bad wd has no lightning damage to really take advantage of any additional ele damage for it, like wizard does
I have 2 unity combo setup, i also have 2 soj's, and a tall man's finger (the TMF is pretty damn rare) on 1 soj i have it for cold damage for dot build, for the other soj i have 20% physical damage etc, so i just swap those around, as well as bracers, (cold on 1, physical on other) and same for amulets
I tried the 2 unity ring setup, and while it does seem to give me some more survivability, i do still die a bit due to say arcane beams or certain mob combinations, like those pesky anarch's, a elite pack of anarchs with arcane beams is rediculous
But then i also have tried the TMF + SOJ instead of Unity+SOJ and loving the big dog, he's ridiculously op, given my gear he crits 50-70m! like 1 shots most elites on t4 even, drops trash in record speed, his normal hits are 5-10m ish, but when i see 48m, 54m crits like dayaaam. I took the build to ghom T6 and i can kill him in under 20 seconds, the dog/garg/fetish eat bosses alive
When i go back to 5 dogs (passives) it just doesnt seem as good, that big dog really helps a lot in killing tougher mobs, it also frees up "slots" around an elite, with 5 dogs, and 5 fetishes, and garg surrounding a mob, and i've heard this before, there's to much competition among pets to do damage, once they surround an elite its ok but with 1 mega dog/garg and fetishes, effective dps goes up a lot, due to less mobs on 1 target, so all pets can dps, and then those 40-50m+ crits from dog, icing on the cake
I havent found a kurki yet, sticking with SOH for now, the iceball proc is neat, as well as the poison nova for mobs that get close, procs often.
I run full area damage with dot build, but switch paragon points to something else for pet build, also use leeching beasts + paragon loh for best results
And lastly, i had heard that attack speed would be best, but the problem with that is...95% of all wd (and maybe even int based gear) is all crit, there are aucutally only a few IAS pieces innately, and while i could swap them from crit to IAS, the sheer amount of crit that i have put into each piece (on TWO builds...) unless IAS showed me huge gains in killing speed or effectiveness, i'm sticking with crit, i've rolled 6% on most of the pieces that go 6% and close to 10% on everything else, and if went to IAS, i'd nerf my damage (sheet dps...but still) quite a bit trying to gain a minimal amount of effective dps
I still am trying to get a Tasker and Theo though too, i've spent 5k shards in last week on gloves...nothing yet, its sad, seemed to hit a dry spell on gambling, she hasnt even given me a single glove leg in the last 2k shards! not even the common ones
About kukri im damn sure about it. Tested it myself and my friend aswell about tf. Tf is stromg wep for lesser torments in higher torments its usablenonly because of the debuff . But ninjapulling of goblins is frustrating.
cain ias makes a big difference since you dont sacrifice crot or crit dmg
Hi Projax, fun to see another wd with diffrent ideas, I dont agree with all your choices but why should everone use the same skills?
I have been playing around with the last breath (I have DB and flayer but not SMK yet) and T6 with this build is no problem (Unitys are not used) and in a good party we clear T6 rift around 3 min and 2 days ago we did T6 Uber 1-4 in around total time 2.5 min. we have it recorded.
http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/sandie-2968/hero/28103422Check and and try it and tell me what ya think? Usually do Phys skills but read somewhere that fire had a higher burst and I cant really say? Dog crits 100m+ Garg 200m+ (seen 250m a couple of times) and tha fetishes 20-35m each, the piranas is more used for short cd and I can more or less instaspam it even thou I like tha piranadho more.
First, excuse me. Im terribly drunk at the time of this posting...
That being said I'm one of those guys that didnt get the zuni 4 piece until after the 2.0.5 change. Atm. i am running with 3 piece zuni, RoRG, TmF and for the funny input the only actives in my build are bbw, garg/protector and piranhas/mutilation (at 345 paragons or thereabout). In other word i dont do much while continuously farming t5 rift and bounties. My sheet dps is around 900-3mill depending on gruesome/harrington/shrine buffs, my +phys is at a meager +48 (swapped out a 20% SoJ for the life return of TmF leeching beast).
Farming wise im having a grand time. Most stuff is super easy. Only stuff giving me grief is large packs of armored nightmares/enslaved nightmares, anarchs/exarchs/corrupted angels/winged assasins. In short, the mobs ignoring your pets and going straight for your face. That being said, with my current follower (enchantress w/maximus) i have 14mill toughness.
More often than not i tend to farm bounties on t6, and rifts on t5 (mostly because champs are often stacked with my luck, taking out the fetishes over time and leaving the dog to tank). I have yet to find SMK and Unity, so there are still room for improvement beyond just stat tweaking.
We have so many things in common and I agree with ya on the angels, they are nasty sometimes Good choice's in skills I must say H5 bro
The day (if) I find the SMK, I will change Paranoia for BBV, but a couple of thousands shards hasn't convinced Kadala to give one to me so I guess I still have a challenge left with the WD before moving to the next char
about ias vs critchance, I think tasker and theo is the second mandatory item here, and as soon as you can call it yours, you can go full crit chance/dmg on your gear.
No , that's not how attack speed on tasker and theo works , attack speed on gear and the legendary effect from taskers are two different things. Attack speed on gear increases the DAMAGE your pets do , the legendary effect on taskers makes the actually attack faster. They do NOT interact additively with eachother for that reason.
Great guide Projax. I've been in the process of combining the fetish build with the zero dog build. I have plenty of knowledge as a Zero Dog WD, but when it comes to the fetish build I have close to none. I found your guide extremely helpful when building my pet doctor.http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Blasphemy-1119/hero/48488544. Our builds only differ from one skill and two passives http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#WdYUQT!hRWV!Yccabb. Which this will always be different when it comes to each players preferred play style which is ok. I would like to add that I have a Rhen'ho Flayer, but I'm looking for the right Doombringer I think it will work very well with the phys% and if i can find one with AS + a socket. I want to also ask. If you have any guides on the Poison/Jade Harvester WDs? After I'm done gearing my Zero Builds and my Pet Doctor. I want to try mixing the Zero Dog build with poison/Jade Harvester WD. I know I can do it, but like i stated earlier I have plenty of knowledge on the Zero Dog WD. Not much on any of the other builds that everyone is using in RoS. Thanks for this guide again and keep up at it!
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on smk.
but I do see your point, for physical pet doc where you spam FS without needing much cool down, smk is not as effective. but in my opinion running smk with 3 piece zuni with BBV, wrathful protector, fire pets has higher ceilings for faster T6 clear. First of all you should know that FA are tougher than FS since FS dont have force armor, and your build requires you to spam RoT which makes it hard to use hexing pants (in my opinion the most effective pants for pet docs)
I clear T6 with both my jade and pet doctors efficiently and I am a firm believer that Sun Keep at higher torment level is better than doom for physical pet docs, but it doesn't matter you could run doom for regular mob and switch to sun keep for elites.
I do agree with you that crit and crit hit dmg are still the best damage modifier for pet docs (since the previous patch), but we should not undervalue ias since it also increase pet dmg
Pet dmg formula is calculated as [(weapon dmg) + (weapon dmg)*(int)/100]*(ias)*(pet tooltips)
well no jade harvest wd guide is planned since im not playing D3 so often. Im waiting on the 2.1 patch and some class tweaks I also use a different build when im bored Im playing Pile-on with fetishes Pile on crits for 40-60 mils and seems to be fun
2hayabusa - yeah I wanted to try the fire pets aswell but for that you need alot of items like cindercloth
