I know it's much too early to ask this, but maybe someone might have an idea as to how "Pet Scaling" will work when you level and when you get to the higher difficulties? I remember the Necro's pets were good up until about Nightmare. Then they became pretty lame, because of how easily they died. But then patched them and put in synergies which helped a lot.
I'm wondering how the Witch Doctors' pets will fair? Because I really like the minion based character archetype, but it's pretty much worthless if the minions don't hold up.
your pet's damage is based on a percentage of your damage just like the rest of the spells. the only thing that should scale is hp and defense. I'm sure they will balance it to how resilient they want them to be.

If your goal is to be a good "summoner" then the only way to have efficient damage pets would be to focus on your weapon damage. After being 60 for a while you may have one high damage weapon hard to replace. Since your pet might not receive critical chance hit, critical damage %,life leech or such. I would consider to buff up items with + attack damage that will suit to your weapon so you can have strong pets.
As for health and defense i would think blizzard use the same mechanic as D2 when you enter a new difficulty, all your minions are buffed up for health and defense.
