Since it is non-season, I leveled my new necro to 70 in no time (paragon points + Gem of Eased Ancient 2 hand weapon + Hellfire ammy and Hellfire ring means even solo to 70 is very easy) and made some videos.
- Corpse Lance
Very high damage! However, it requires corpses to cast. Corpses are Necromancer's unique resource. Killed mobs leave corpses on floor. Several Necro's skills require corpses to cast. Therefore, you need to kill some mobs first with other skills, then finish the remaining with Corpse Lance.
- Command Skeleton:
Skeletons spawn automatically. Cast it on a mob to have all the skeletons rush to it and deal extra damage!
- Frailty
Which means mobs have 15% less health! Works on Elites!
Blood Rush
Basically Necro's version of Teleport.
Passives:
- Life from Death
Currently it generates a lot of health globe. Not surprised if Blizz nerf it in the future.
- Final Service
Necro's version of cheat death. Heal more for builds that have many pets.
Tried another generic LoN pet build last night. Even better than the bone build above. (Of course, for real competitive game play, I will need some real Necro legs and / or set eventually.)
A few interesting skills and passives in this video:
- Skeletal Mage
The duration is really short so it works more like other spenders than real pets. How many Skeletal Mage you can have depends on the Essence regen rate. I have up to 8 occasionally but usually only 3-4.
- Revive
Limited to 10 corpses. However, they last for 15s, so usually enough time for you to find the next group if cast after finishing one group. Recast whenever you have dead mobs on floor but do not have 10 corpse pets.
- Command Golem:
Golem spawns automatically. Activates it to have the Golem does various actions depending on which runes you are using.
"Attacking with Bone Spikes has a 20–30% chance to cast a Bone Nova at the target location."
Do not need Bone Nova on the bar to have the effect. Basically some free additional damage.
(2) Set:
Each corpse you consume fires a Corpse Lance at a nearby enemy.
(4) Set:
Each enemy you hit with Bone Spear reduces your damage taken by 2%, up to a maximum of 50%. Lasts 15 seconds.
(6) Set:
Each corpse you consume grants you an Empowered Bone Spear charge that increases the damage of your next Bone Spear by 3000%.
2 sets bonus is some nice additional damage but what really makes the set powerful is the 6 sets bonus. 3000% damage Bone Spear is amazing. However, each shot consumes a buff that is gained upon corpse consumption (any of the various skills that consumes corpses works) makes it tricky to use.
4 set bonus, as usually, provides very good damage reduction. It is not hard to stack up 25 stacks. Remember to refresh it before the timer expires.
(2) Set:
Your minions have a chance to reduce the cooldown of Army of the Dead by 1 second each time they deal damage.
(4) Set:
You gain 1% damage reduction for 15 seconds each time one of your minions deal damage. Max 50 stacks.
(6) Set:
Each active Skeletal Mage increases the damage of your minions and Army of the Dead by 250%.With 2 pieces bonus and a lot of minions, the cooldown of Army of the Dead is significantly reduced. 50 stacks of 4 pieces bonus damage reduction can also be gathered very fast by your minions and you do not even need to think about it.
The tricky part is the 6 pieces bonus, which is the main source of power of the set. You need to pump as many Skeleton Mages out as possible, and do it fast. Without synergy from other gear, you may have 8 Skeleton Mages out at best before they start despawning, plus it take time to get this number and is hard to maintain.
Therefore, using the set with Circle of Nailuj's Evol is suggested, which gives you:
"You now raise an additional Skeletal Mage with each cast and they last an additional 2–4 seconds."
With this, you can pump out 10 Skeletal Mages (the maximum you can have) quickly and maintain it afterward easily.
(2) Set:
Bone Armor damage is increased by 1000%.
(4) Set:
Bone Armor grants an additional 2% damage reduction per enemy hit.
(6) Set:
Bone Armor also activates a swirling tornado of bone, damaging nearby enemies for 750% weapon damage and increasing the damage they take from the Necromancer by 2750%.
This set is a melee set and currently the most powerful Necromancer set. The 2 pieces bonus does decent damage. Therefore, use Bone Armor whenever you can. 4 pieces bonus increases 10 stacks Bone Armor damage reduction from 30% normally to 50%. (With Wisdom of Kalan amulet you can have 15 stacks Bone Armor, further increase the damage reduction to 75%.)
6 pieces bonus greatly increases damage to mobs within the tornado around you. Therefore, you need to stay close to the mobs to benefit from the set bonus. It does not limit which skills you use for damage, so you can have different builds with this set.
(2) Set:
Blood Rush gains the effect of every rune.
(4) Set:
While at full Life, your healing from skills is added to your maximum Life for 45 seconds, up to 100% more.
(6) Set:
Your Life-spending abilities deal 3300% increased damage but cost twice as much Life. Your healing from skills is increased by 100%.
2 pieces bonus improves Blood Rush, allowing it to increase armor, heal and create corpses at the same time, with 2 charges and does not cost health.
6 pieces bonus greatly buff the damage of your life-spending abilities (i.e. any skill runes that cost health to cast). However, costing twice as much Life do cause problem. Typical life-spending spenders cost 10% health. With the set, it is 20% health, so you can only cast 4 times successively which leaves you at 20% health! Therefore, you need several healing skills and use life-spending and healing skills intermittently. At least the healing from skills is also double.
4 pieces bonus basically double your maximum health with time. However, it is kind of counterproductive with the 6 set bonus because with higher maximum health, life-spending skills 20% cost means you are losing double amount of life for each cast. In my humble opinion it would make more sense by simply making it gives a 50% damage reduction likes most other sets 4 pieces bonus.
(2) Set:
While your skeletons are commanded to attack a target, all of your minions deal 400% increased damage.
When the target of your Command Skeletons dies, your skeletons are automatically commanded to attack a nearby target.
Cast Command Skeleton once, skeletons automatically rush to mobs one by one until all nearby mobs are dead. What more important is as long as the Command Skeleton debuff is on, all your minions deal 400% more damage. Therefore, makes sure the debuff is on all the time, which is indicated by the bright light covering your skeletons.
This is currently the top Necromancer build everyone on the top ladder is using. It relies on the legendary gem Mirinae, Teardrop of the Starweaver and Inarius 6-piece bonus for damage to regular mobs, and Corpse Lance for elites. This gives the build a very unique playstyle unlike most other builds.
Gear:
- 6 pieces of Inarius set are the core of the build.
- Dayntee's Binding, Ancient Parthan Defenders, The Traveler's Pledge set and Unity (for single player, combo with unkillable follower with Unity equiped) provide good damage reduction which is very important since this is a melee build.
- Reilena's Shadowhook 2H Scythe provides very good damage buff.
Cube:
- Trag'Oul's Corroded Fang for the free curses and damage buff.
- Corpsewhisper Pauldrons and Krysbin's Sentence are both very good damage buff.
Legendary gems:
Mirinae, Teardrop of Starweaver
Bane of the Trapped
Pain Enhancer
Gameplay:
- Decrepify mobs before engaging them. Get 10 stacks of Bone Armor as quick as possible and do not let the stacks fall off.
- For regular mobs, just Decrepify them and run pass them. Inarius 6-piece bonus and Mirinae gem will do the damage.
- When encountering elites, use Land of the Dead if available, Grim Scythe a few times, then start spamming Corpse Lance till the elites die. If Land of the Dead is on cooldown, kite the elites to earlier place with a lot of corpses, or kite it around while killing regular mobs for corpses. Then Bone Armor elites to stun them, Grim Scythe and spam Corpse Lance.
- Near the end of the rift / greater rift, you may consider saving Land of the Dead for the rift guardian.
"Attacking with Siphon Blood has a 40–50% chance to cast a free Blood Nova."
With perfect roll 50% chance, it gives a free Blood Nova every 2 casts of Siphon Blood.
However, according to the first half of the video, it did not do much, if any at all, damage even though Trag'Oul set was equipped (which gave 3300% damage to blood skills). Then I added the skill Blood Nova to the bar. All a sudden the Blood Nova proc deals big damage buffed by Trag'Oul. Looks like a bug to me. Hope Blizz will fix it.
"Revive now consumes all corpses to raise a minion that deals 125–150% more damage per corpse."
This means Revive only summons one minion each time but the minion is more powerful than the sum of all the minions summoned without the helm. At most 10 corpses can be consumed to create a powerful minion each time.
More importantly, you can have several powerful minions active at the same time with further Revive. Therefore, when a lot of corpses are available, this can make Revive a lot stronger!
To find Rathma Set Dungeon, use the new Act 2 Temple of the Firstborn waypoint added in 2.6.0. Enter The Sacred Path which is just behind the waypoint. Keep walking down the path and you will see the entrance. (Make sure you are wearing the set, of course.)
Objectives:
1) Accumulate a total of 500 seconds cooldown reduction on Army of the Dead.
2) Raise 100 Skeletal Mages.
The dungeon is quite easy overall compared to other class dungeons.
The second objective is trivial if you have Circle of Nailuj's Evol ring which makes your Skeletal Mage summon two mages each time. Probably still doable without the ring.
The first objective is slightly tricky but still not too hard with some adjustments. The cooldown reduction is referring to the 2-piece bonus of the set: Your minions have a chance to reduce the cooldown of Army of the Dead by 1 second each time they deal damage. First of all, it only counts if Army of the Dead is on cooldown. Therefore, cast it whenever you can! Also, I found that the Aberrant Animator passive helps, as it makes your minions gain 200% of your Thorns. It is actually a problem if you are geared enough to farm T13, as you would probably kill the mobs here too fast and might kill all before completing the objective. If this is the case, try to lower your damage. (E.g. I needed to remove the gem on my weapon and clear my offensive paragon points!)
To find the dungeon, use Act 2 Drowned Temple waypoint and enter the Drowned Temple. The entrance will appear at the east wall if you are wearing the set.
Objectives:
1) Rip bones from 100 enemies with Bone Armor.
2) Kill 200 enemies that are affected by a Bone Armor tornado.
The dungeon is easy with proper skills and gear.
For the first objective, get as much cooldown reduction as you can. If you have In-Geom sword (Your skill cooldowns are reduced by 8–10 seconds for 15 seconds after killing an elite pack), you can spam Bone Armor after killing those elites.
For the second objective, use melee skills for damage (e.g. Grim Scythe, Death Nova) to make sure mobs die in the tornado.
To find the dungeon, use the new Act 4 Upper Realm of Cursed Fate waypoint added in patch 2.6.0. Walk southeast down the stairs and you will see the entrance at the end of the path. Make sure you are wearing the set.
Objectives:
1) Spend 1000% of your life on abilities.
2) Heal 1000% of your life with abilities.
The objectives are trivial. Probably automatically complete with any properly constructed Trag'Oul builds having life-spending attacks and healing abilities. If you use Land of the Death and spam Devour, the second objective can be completed in seconds!
However, the slightly difficult part is to clear all the mobs within the time limit. There are a lot of low health insect mobs so Corpse Explosion works better than Corpse Lance here. Memorize the map and use the fastest route.
To find the dungeon, use Act 3 The Keep Depth Level 3 waypoint. Find the entrance to Larder (the boss room of Ghom) and the set dungeon entrance will appears next to it if you are wearing the set.
Objectives:
1) Hit enemies 150 times with Empowered Bone Spears.
2) Don't take 400000 damage.
Yet another easy set dungeon. For objective 1, just try not to kill mobs with skills other that Empowered Bone Spear. I suggest cast Land of the Dead in the beginning and spam Devour to collect 100 Empowered Bone Spear buff first. Devour time to time afterward to replenish buff.
The second objective is automatic as long as you remember the Pestilence set is supposed to be a ranged set and do not facetank mobs.
