As the title says. Cold as an elemental type fascinates me the most. I've gotten some gear for Cold build, Rimeheart and frostburn. I was trying out a build like that and was struggling near 30 level grifts. Then a mate pointed out this holy wukong build and with that I could do grifts of about level 33. So the build was obviously much better.
Now I think it's receiving what looks to be a nerf (not sure, the build could be "the most viable" even after the suggested change) do you think it'll open up room for more builds and if a Cold build could be amongst those builds?
Now it's not. But after 2.1.2 it could be one of the Top Monk Builds(not going to talk about details and ideas)
Well this certainly peaked my interest!
I am wondering what secrets and arcane knowledge you have in your possession that the rest of us noobs don't have !
Playing a cold monk on PTR (I have a hellfire that rolled harmony) and it's insane. Tzo-krins gaze isn't required with the cold WoL, it has huge range anyway. Running SWK, Innas, Torch and crudest boots. Can probably get away with no generator with my reaper's wraps.
The damage is impressive and you can kite really well. Since you don't really need CDR you can get more DPS and or toughness out of your gear.
( ur single target dps comes from TR with flurry ( with a 3 pc SWK ) u use 3 PC innas for mantras .. the weapon = either the warstaff ... i would also need a reapers wraps so that you dun have down time on spirit spending cause its nuts to keep spaming ur air ally ( the boots should be either ice climbers / crudest ) if ur spirit is fine then i suggest khalims bracers ( immune to stun / knockback ) hellfire ammulet is quite useful or do a travelers pledge n compass rose ( quite strong for TR ( cause flurry u will stack a lot of damage then let it go ( so SOJ is not as important )
Quote from Khwadj i was testing on PTR today ( got a 4 pc SWK and i went lightining for shits and giggles but after testing a bit i found that http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#VcSjPg!bifS!bbYbcY is quite interesting Very fun build, thanks. I've tweaked it a bit for more survival and get stuck at grift 36 (no unity) by lack of DPS on single foe and bad RNG on monsters : Morlu incinerator are especially a pain in the ass with the right affixes. I'm running 3P SWK + 3P inna + WH + Warstaff + reaper wraps. Furnace gave good results as well, but I love the speed boost.

a few things might help ( one is the hexing pants of MR yan) this will really boost ur tempest rush damage... also by using key bind to a command shortcut in the control panel called "FORCE MOVE" you can cancel ur tempest rush while NOT stoping to move .. hence still gaining the benefit of the hexing pants (25%) and just canceling tempest rush for the +100 stack damage on rift guardians...
other options is to downgrade to 2 set innas.. 3 pc swk and go with a travelers pledge n compast rose if you do not have a unity ....
however if you get a unity my suggestion is to farm out a hellfire ammulet ( u can stack up more damage with a 5th passive ) but you want to keep your sheet dps at 900k with a hexing pants ... u can push the dps but the survival will still be an issue ..... my suggestion for that is to use ephi and desert shroud only when u fight molten mobs / arcane for quick kills... if not try n skip packs espcially if there are no white mobs around ( also if there a not enuf white mobs around... go drag elites to them)
I've been having a lot of fun on PTR with a lightning SWK build (wave of light) with the helm that makes wave of light cast at your enemies. Does anyone know if zei's would be effective with this helm? Also, does the SWK clone taunt count as a control impairing effect for bane of the trapped?

There is distance between you and the targets you damage, so they will take increased damage.
with regards to zei ... if you want to farm faster it would be depend on the situation... as a SWK lighting WOL build... u would need to have the gaze and always be at max range ... and when u cast ephi you sometimes do rush into the mobs and lose out the zei's range damage buff... the best gem tbh from my point of view is the taegeuk ( 3 set innas and make sure you have 0 resource cost reduction and u can keep it going for ever with sweaping wind) also another gem option when using this build is bane of the trapped ( i was reading in some post that the taunt is considered a crowd control effect ) also with the zei stone ( the stun proc could work to help out with those pesky mobs but do remember that stun has a low chance since WOL proc coefficients are all below 12% ( except fire 25% and lighitning 20% based on what i saw on http://www.d3maxstats.com/procrates/ )
Cold is not bad but you will need too have a secondary element too cause procs rtc from a damage perspective unless you do a shatter kind of build which can and cannot do due too poor proc's on weapons such as the RIMEHEART

basically what he said. Also, there might be more changes between now and patch day ! (hopefully mostly g00d news)
