I would say yes. I don't feel gifts are that rare, and you have the option to roll %dmg, %as or life per hit, whatever you feel you need the most. Because of the low damage I would go for 1 of the damage modifiers, but having all your life regen on the weapon gives options to boost your dps on the other items.

I was leaning towards yes, but as for them being not that rare... perhaps you got lucky, or perhaps I've had bad luck with them. I haven't seen a single one in over 100 normal T6 rifts, and probably 60-70 25+ greater rifts.
The one I have now dropped for a friend I was helping, and he was nice enough to offer it to me
Not sure if you are unlucky or me being lucky, but I think I drop on average 1 every 10 hours of playing, and had someone in a random public party drop one in town, with the other 2 guys not picking it up and all 3 leaving, so I stashed it. This made me believe that all 4 random people in that party had plenty of them, leading me to concluding they are not that rare.

As for the FD, its worth it. It already rolled LPSS which is vital, so just reroll the socket into 10% damage or 7% IAS.
