Hey guys, I have a question about the build thats posted by quin69 on the frontpage: G40+ zDps Full Support group monk (Quin69)
In his build he recommends frostburn gloves and the wyrdward ring. The problem is he doesnt use any frost attacks in his build, nor lightning attacks (I guess lightning can proc from thunderfury but thats it.
I happen to have both items and I was wondering what skills I'm supposed to use with them because his default skills dont work. Switch crippling wave rune to the frost rune and use thunderfury procs to proc wyrdward?
Use Crippling Wave Tsunami to proc frost burn, more effective than the 10% dmg since you need to keep people alive at GR 40+. And I believe wyrdward is useless since it can't proc from weapon procs like thunderfury, it might work with Wreath of Lightning gem though.
Enemies hit by Crippling Wave take 10% additional damage from all attacks for 3 seconds.
Now, it does NOT say that the damage is converted to any kind of damage (fire, forst, etc...) so from what I understand it will use the damage from the weapon, so if the weapon has cold damage on it that will cause your attack to freeze via Frostburn. I think this is how it works, I also saw a video on quins twitch I believe where he explains this.
10% additional damage means that is an attack deals X damage the enemy will take that damage times 1.1, the element will not change. If the attack did not deal cold damage then it cannot proc Frostburns. If it did deal cold damage it can.
Physical damage has the special upside of ineriting your weapons damagte tag for some purposes. That said, Tsunami is def better than breaking.
So I have an Azurewrath, which by itself can freeze things and it also has cold damage on it. If I use CW:BW, since it does not change the damage I do to a certain type, I am doing some cold damage, which has some change to chill, which in turn has a chance to freeze thanks to frost burn.
In this case, I would think that the extra 10% of damage is worth it since I am already freezing things a lot. Not to mention the slow from inner sanc and the constant pull (depending on mob) from cyclone the mobs aren't usually going anywhere. To a DH whose cluster arrows hit for 50 mil, that 10% is an extra 5 mil, times however many sentries those guys have is a lot of extra damage.
The guaranteed freeze adds a layer of additional CC, separate from getting lucky. Plus the radius increase to that freeze.
I mean, I peronsally like the rune that reduces the enemies' damage. But Tsunami is superior reliability, and lets yolu use a eapon that isn't inherently cold (if you end up wanting to do so for any reason).
Working up a lightning monk, rolled for upgrading my gloves last night and got T&T's (?) so those went to my WD and I forgot to put my magefists (which I don't really need but are all I have, back on.
BUT, I am adding lightning damage and skills to my monk, including the Wreath of Lightning, and here's my question! Does the +%Lightning damage affect the Leg gems? ( Or the poison gem on my WD for that matter?)
BTW, yes, the Wyrdward rocks!

Just saw this now! Cold damage range on weapons proc the frostburns! i.e 1069 ~ 1420 >>Cold Damage<<
(noticed this playing the old rimeheart build, 0 cold skills needed to proc the shatter)
And i have changed the rings/thunderfury priority now after talking with Shinna! <3

Let's take a look at my gear, while not amazing by any means, it can provide a good example here. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Jief-1141/hero/52220522
