Looking for a little assistance with gearing.

    http://us.battle.net...80/hero/2257827

I just came back after a bit of a hiatus and have been trying different builds but still barely able to even survive on MP4 and it's getting a bit frustrating; while I understand some of my gear rolls may not be the "best" I'd consider it to be pretty decent but I'm still having major issues surviving. My budget is around 550m but obviously I'd rather not spend all of it.

(Also yes I know my gems need upgrading and that's already budgeted in).

I was running the classic SW build and that seemed a bit "better" since I used Serenity, but I've been trying EP and Spirit builds as well but just nothing seems to be going well. Any ideas/suggested/etc would be greatly appreciated!

Your major problem is lack of CC and LS for DPS and life return.

Change Mempo to a 6CC INNA helm, add CC and AS to glove, and CC and CD to amulet.

The weapons are nice, but short of LS for high MP fight.

    GEAR BONUSES:

    +2312 Dexterity
    +623 AR
    +572 Vitality
    +Critical Hit Damage by 266%
    +987 Armor

Current Total: 31k HP (without VIT GEMs) @ PL7

Good job in rather learning how to do resistance for Monk for someone who just started out, /me noting your # Elite Kills.

Your Amulet is "cored" wrongly with that +vit. Then there's that wrong Primary Stat amulet. You're also overdoing AR and then bringing in OWE passive when you're past 623, however, once you redo your amulet, you will end up back with OWE. So just be wary of what you're doing. Amulet is also one of the most offensive pieces, so you may want to add in Critical Hit Chance and Critical Hit Damage, like the first response.

Pants: As a low paragon, you need to be aware of your foundation stats, especially Base Vitality, even though you went "rather overboard" but smart thinking for Resistance that many people also drop focus on.
I know that, not many people will agree, but I believe that Double-Dex Vite Inna's Pants is actually more Endgame, so you should keep your currently-wearing Inna's Pants for when you're much much higher in Paragon Levels.

Bracers: Your choice of Rare Bracers on AH is crucial here too, since Bracers slot is also pretty much a defensive slot unless you chose to do Lacuni, it should be more of eHP, of course Bracers and Shoulders differ from each other, by noting the Critical Hit Chance property on Bracers slot. So +Vitality is also important starting out.

    Gloves: missing Critical Hit Chance.

Helm: I, myself, also prefer Inna's Radiance to start off.

Overall, your foundation stats has to be re-organized. Rushing towards non-OWE hurt you in HP.

As for Weapons, the choice of Shenlong is actually very very particular, it is more for combo-fighting, hit for hit, strike for strike, it is actually not for "IMPACT PUNCH damage" like Wave of Light even though the Attacks Per Second does aid in "DROPPING" of Bells.

Awesome thanks for the tips, a bit confused on what you're saying about OWE; are you saying that because I have such high resist-all I'm actually nerfing my resists or am I just not understanding what you're saying?

Also in regards to Shenlong it's mainly because I haven't found a decently/reasonably priced Echoing Fury yet (nor second 1h'r to use with it). I have a decently high cap on my budget but I'm still going to be smart about what I spend.

Side note yea I'm relatively "new" because I spent a lot of time on my DH as well (shares some gear with Monk so missing some pieces right now) and made a Barb as well just to find which class I liked better. Really torn between my Monk and DH though. (Which is why they're similar in PL)

I am saying that you're running 623 AR right now, that means you are actually non-OWE user, meaning you don't actually have a real Focus Resist even though you have some Fire and one other one. When you use OWE, you are suppose to have an actual focus and not just pure All Resistance gear, and when you're at the point where you have All Resistance gear without a specific focus resist, you don't actually need to use OWE, thus opening you to another passive.

If not, you will still need that OWE if you have a focus resist in which your character depends on.

Gotcha, weird my character sheet in game was reporting way lower without OWE. Must have been some weird glitch.

Would you recommend picking up an Echoing Fury then? I thought I had enough LS, but I guess I'm wrong; about how much should I be looking for? I'd rather stick around MP3-4 just for farming Paragon levels or should I just try and cap it out now?

Well, I saw from profile that you have "+623 All Resistance to Elements". So I don't see why you would see any lower in-game.

Single lifesteal requires a lot more DPS, depending on what MP you're doing also.

You can hunt down Group Play to speed up the EXP gain as long as everyone is "sufficiently efficient" on a higher MP. Most people suggest to use a big Vitality Gem in Helm as well. However, for you, first you need to pick up your HP from 31k to at least 39k without any VIT GEMS :) Then put in the Big Vitality Gem in Helm and then run at least MP6 (your current DPS is low but you can still do it, MP5-MP6 as long as you have the HP to maintain), preferably in groups.

EDIT: As far as EF is concerned, well if you run Wave of Light builds, you want a faster 0.24 or 0.25 Echoing Fury for OH, and then a High Average Damage MH.

I dont recommend EF for monks unless you're running the NIrvana build in which case it only goes by main hand weapon speed and dps so the aps from EF will greatly benefit the number of bells you can drop in the 5 second window. IN addition, wave of light has a low proc coefficient so the fear isn't bad.

For all other builds, the fear just isn't worth it. You spend more time chasing enemies so the dps increase isn't significant. Keep in mind that thunder clap has a huge 150% proc coefficient so that combined with fast attack speed means constant fearing. In addition builds that use exploding palm, you want the mobs grouped together not annoyingly running away.

The third factor is if you wanna go double ls, that means you have to get LS on the EF which means you cant get CD+ a socket as they'res only 2 random rolls. So the difference between a good rare and LS ef is minimal.

Yeah Nirvana Build is one of the "Wave of Light Builds", rare MH + EF OH. Transcendence does help if you're shooting for SHEET DPS as well. Otherwise, at least running Single Lifesteal when your DPS proves sufficient.

Of course, like he said, you don't want "fear procs" (so preferably no EF at all) in the other builds, such as Exploding Palm is very good, you want to compactualize your enemies, and then you just need to know how to time it on Reflect Damage Packs.

If you are just going for casual farming, Double Lifesteal is proven to be handy. Otherwise, it's always nice to take up a challenge and make your game fun, as accordingly.

So is lifesteal % now better than Life on Hit? I assume it just scales better with DPS, and where my DPS currently is I imagine LoH would still be the better way to go.

I'm still experimenting with builds but open to suggestions; I typically ran with blind (with damage boost rune) but was tinkering around with bell which is why I have it in there now.

I suggest to use at least lifesteal 2.5%+ for single, and for double at least 5.2% after 80k DPS. Some people will say around 70k, some people will say after 100k.

Note: Single lifesteal is harder to maintain stable life returns until you reach "a certain high" DPS.

Ouch, a 2.5% rare 1h is going to break the bank unless I sacrifice a lot of dps. Gonna take me awhile to find one it seems.

Most often, that's the thing about lifesteal, of course the really good and "cheaper' ones are the 2.2 to 2.3% LS ones.. however, if your DPS issin't like overwhelmingly high, you don't gain enough life return.

And later on everything looks "rather perfect". Then we fall back into that issue of "your weapon" or that you find yourself not surviving when you have 600+ AR or 700, and 50k or 60k HP, and 5k armor, Then it will be your weapon again.

Of course, until you realize that you can just run enough with Transcendence and Life Per Spirit Spent (something unique to the class), or in future, the advantage of health globe bonuses (which I love),

So yeah, it will break your bank most of the time to maintain DPS, that's also the other thing, once you start off with "glassy"-ness, you will have to fall back just a little or sometimes a lot more, to become more "well-balanced" (I like to gear that way and I am, without doubt, envious of others with crazy godly SHEET DPS / gear.
