TryHard: Monk 1.0.8 Guide

  • #1
Hello again fellow Monks! I've finally finished the 1.0.8 Monk guide, it contains a few various specs and some discussion on the patch notes for patches 1.0.7 and 1.0.8, the only reason the .7 info is in there is I hadn't covered it when the patch was released!

Feel free to ask any questions here :)

Mantra of Evasion with Backlash for singleplayer scales up with the new monster density, look into that :). it is very good and fun!

if u need backlash to do barely do better in a MP , u probably should not be there in the first place

You'd be surprised by how effective it is. My monk has the stats for mp7 but struggles a bit with mp8. With a fellow monk using overawe and me using backlash, the two of us are immortal. Only dying to random tree poison and that kind of stuff.

    absolutely
Backlash is underwhelming in terms of DPS while playing solo. However, with another Monk in group running Overawe, the consistent and powerful blasting effect just melts mobs with AoE bliss. Hint~Adding Guardians Path passive really makes it sing (or any other skill that grants +to Dodge).

I've just recently returned to D3 after about ohhh 11 months :P Thanks for this guide.

What would you recommend on working on first in terms of gear?

I know my Echoing Fury is int... I just happened to find one and I don't have the gold to replace it at the moment.

I enjoy backlash on higher monster power, around 8-10, if I'm running anything lower the mobs die so fast they don't get much chance to attack activating the passive :(

I'd work on getting some weapons with crit damage + an open socket, replace both of those rings with rings with average damage, dex, crit and crit damage, increased attack speed as well but keep it mind that normally lowers the crit value which can result in less dps than having around 6% on the ring! Replace the neck with the same stats as the ring, maybe some vit or life % on there as well. Gloves with Crit + Crit Damage + IAS if possible, if you can't afford the IAS search for some defensive stats on there as well!

if you haven't, the stats on these guides are still viable, the legendary guide has changed a bit due to the crafted shoulders surpassing Vile Ward, although Vile Ward is still a good option until you roll a good pair of crafted shoulders :)
