Build Improvement Suggestions

  • #1
Yes, another one of these threads. It's always good to get new ideas though.

Any suggestions on improvements within reasonable budget (say less than 10mil an item). My main thing is to be able to do higher levels of ubers (>5) comfortably.

Only weak spot is your offhand, look for something with more dps and lifesteal. But that's way out of that budget limit. If you just want to do ubers more comfortably pick up rare chest, pants and belt with double resist - you're giving away a lot of defense right there.

Actually from the calculators, 700+ lifehit will give more back then 3% life steal for this build (my barb is the opposite). As far as rare pants and torso, its too much to give up in terms of damage. I'd also have to switch to fleet footing to get my run walk up if I lose inna's temperance. I could switch to lacunis but then I lose the double resists and life from my rare bracer so Im back to square one.

You don't need moment speed when fighting ubers.
Just switch gear when you have your 5NV and are engaging them.

I dont care what your dps calculator is saying about 700 LoH being better than 3% LS at your level of dps, that is just outright wrong.

Im running 150k unbuffed, i got 2.8% lifesteal, thats it, no LoH at all - and i got no problems, wether its mp5 or mp10 ubers.

Get rid of that offhand, get a proper spear with high damage range 2.5%+ LS (you dont need more with all that LoH you got on other items) - preferably one with dex and crit dmg aswell and ofcourse a socket, if higher damage range than your EF, put in on mainhand and EF in offhand. If you got 10m budget per item (dunno how many items you was planning on replacing, so dont know your budget) take them all in one big pile and get a good spear/mace (maces tend to be more expesive)

After that, get rid of that inna's belt (no, 4pc bonus is crap for anything else than TR farming) and get a witching hour with 9% asi and 43+ crit dmg.

Personally i dont like the inna's chest either, but thats just a personal preferance, i myself are using a 250+vit/90dex Blackthornes with 77 allres, its amazing EHP and makes me able to go more dps on other items like rings/amulet. Rare ones with double res is also amazing for EHP (if you're using OWE ofc, otherwise just a allres one)

I bit the bullet and got a witching hour that fit my needs (90 dex, and lightning resists). Got some good damage out of that as the attack speed also let me hit another breakpoint for FoT.

Bought a cheap BT surcoat with 77dex, 175 vit, double resists. Tried it out and got over a 100 total resists out of it but didn't like how much damage I lost. It's good for an armor switch on ubers.

As far as the off hand weapon goes, I still can't find one that does more damage then the one I have that's less than say 30mil. It's hard to beat the 259 dex, 70crit damage, socket, on it. I entered a bunch of them into a damage calculator and none do more damage.

Regarding life on hit vs life steal, the calculator is right (in regards to 700lh is about 3%ls for FoT for my build). What I missed was that life on hit does not work with SW and its tornados but life steal does. This is what makes life steal better. I'm looking for an off hand weapon with life steal now.

I don't know what the calculator says, why it says what it says or how all that shit works. But I do know that back a few months ago I was running approx 850 LoH and was getting raped in my tight ass by Reflect. I added 2.5 LS just to see the difference (an old Butchers Sickle I had) and the difference was as noticeable as a kick in the balls. This is regardless of whether SW was up and producing nados.

Also, I don't get the thing with using a spear as an offhand (which I realize many people are doing). Combined with EF, what speed bonus granted from the EF seems null when paired with a 1.2 APS offhand.

Personally, I've gone with using an LS EF as my offhand and a 1.58 APS LS dagger as a main. I use a combo strike build with Blazing Fists to land my main-hand attack right under 3.00 APS.

The speed of my build with the dual life-steal is reminiscent of a D2 Zealot using Dracs.

    As for BT pieces;

2 piece Blackthornes is an excellent set-up for garnering vita/dex IF you set the rest of your gear up to compensate from a DPS standpoint.

    I grab 390 dex and 502 vita from my 2-piece BT chest/pants.

I beg to differ. The 4 pc set is essential if you are boosting your sweeping winds snapshot by gear swapping, which can multiply your dps exponentially.

You're no barb. A huge part of your damage (50% if not more, eg if you're using a huge twohander to precast it) is passive via sweeping wind and that's not working with life on hit at all.

Please just go into hell, hit sweeping winds with a high life on hit setup (no life regen, no merc, etc) and kill stuff with display healing shown and don't use any other abilities. Preferable 0 pickup radius so you don't heal via healthglobes accidently and you'll see: zero healing done. No try the same with a lifesteal setup. It's less than expected (due to aoe restrictions i guess) but it's a steady flow nontheless.

On Blackthorne's: it's a huge dps loss but if you need the defense/vita and maybe need/want those life on hit on the pants it's viable. I prefer Inna's for regular play, only on ubers i see no real use of it. Sweeping Wind is in no danger of running out and i don't need the movement speed so i prefer the vita/defense of double resist rares any day for that specific scenario. And keeping those pieces in the bank is no pain for a decent gain, isn't it? :)

The whole debate on LoH vs LS is based quite a bit on your attack speed and damage. With 1200 LoH and a 4 attack speed (thunderclap 1.4 modifier), LoH grants me around 5k-6k a tick, which is very useful. If you have low attack speed and high damage, LS is the clear winner. Everyone's cutoff is different. I prefer LoH.
