With 1.0.5 I came back to the game and was thinking of starting to main my long-forgotten monk again. The only problem I encountered is that most of the time I couldn't decide which items to go for. The people I inspected all used something different.
Today I spotted a really nice Won Khim Lau on the AH - 750dps; 860 LoH; 60 crit dmg - seemed nice until I read about the life steal/ LoH arguments. Turns out I might spend my 8m gold on something not so uselful? But with my low damage, I'm not sure when I'll be able to cap a good enough dps point at which 2.5%+ life steal will benefit me more.
Also why do some people use a Skorn? Isn't it too slow for us? I also don't cope that well with the fear from Echoing Fury (my teammates are very annoyed by it as well and it feels bad on higher MP levels 7-8).
The weapons are the biggest problem right now, but I'd love to hear some critique on my overall gear.
I've been reading the forums like crazy but it would be great to get some personal opinions from you, dear "more-experienced-than-i-am" monks!
My current budget is 50 million.
All of your opinions are appreciated and I thank you in advance!
Your DPS is only good to farm MP0. I'd like to see 40kDPS for MP1 and +10k DPS for each MP level up.
Weapons for monk are not complicate.
We need dps, CD, dex, LS and socket on weapons. The end-game weapons like 1000+ dps, 80%+ CD, 150+ dex, 2.5%+ LS and socket are exorbitant in price. Within your budget, get the best weapon with a combination in dps, CD, dex, LS and socket. To make thing simple, I'll consider LS a must on one of the two weapons if not both irrespective of your level of DPS.
I don't have much experience in WLK, it is said that it boosts light damage in some skills and the paper damage is low which cause some psychological upset. I personally don't like it as "good" ones are not cheap. You might just buy a cheap one to test it out before making a serious investment on a better one.
In fact, I wield an EF with 1250 DPS, 170 dex and 65 CD with +2500 life after kill on main hand. I find no problem fearing away mobs as I seldom chase after them. There might be a problem playing in group in high MP levels. EF does give you a high DPS, but if you don't like the fear, get a rare with high DPS, CD, dex, LS and socket, and they are equally good.
In terms of gearing, dividng gear into groups helps to form a solid basis in defense in 1.0.4.
With 1.0.5, legendary and set items drop like flies. and a better strategy is to get the must have set and legendary items first, say INNA helm+pants, Vile Ward, etc. which are cheaper than rares of lesser stats. It turns out that I need more resist on my other pieces including jewels. The choice on AH is a bit limited, but it is not too bad as resist can always come as a bonus, and price is still mainly based on dps stats. Now, I find that the true upgrade is in the weapons and better rolled legendary/set items.
I upgraded my gear a little bit and now I'm able to farm MP5 like a breeze. Seems to me like WKL was a really good deal. My damage feels alright and as far as surviving goes - a little bit kiting helps a long way! Still got 30m budget left to toy around with, but for now I'm very happy with the results.
Thanks a lot for your tips and feedback, dudes!
