My first attempt at Tempest Rush.

  • #1
Alright, a lot of people have been asking about survivability with 2-handed weapons and stuff. I was curious myself because of the character sheet dps increase. And, i've been wanting to do some paragon farming for my monk for the extra MF/GF. So, here's what i did:

    1.)Bought a skorn
2.)Bought Inna's Radiance and Inna's Vast Expanse - been wanting those for awhile just for the dex increase
3.)Got lucky and traded an lower IK gloves i found for my friend's Inna pants he found
4.) bought the Inna's belt to get the 4 piece set reduction on Sweeping Winds - If you havent seen it, Sweeping Winds goes from costing 75 spirit, which is a lot, to only costing 5 spirit...yep, just 5 spirit. Can basically always have it available.
5.)Finally got all the organs and was able to make a Hellfire Ring. Wasnt a perfect roll or anything, but had over 200 dex and 30% crit.....no crit chance.
6.)The same day I was about to go test all this I found a Stone of Jordan ring...for those who dont really follow these, they provide a huge percentage of increased dmg to elites...mine does 30% more dmg to elites. I was just gonna put the ring on my CM wiz, because thats how the ring rolled unfortunately, but i figured i was losing a lot of resistance with the Inna's set and i could use some more stopping power.

    Skills
The only changes to my skills were to add Tempest Rush - Tailwind (for the movement speed increase), and i replaced MoE with MoH - Circular Breathing.

For my passives, i stuck with OWE because of the armor drop i am suffering, but i also am now using Chant of Resonance and also Exalted Soul.

Altogether, as long as i have the mantra on, i receive 6.33 spirit per second. Thats pretty nice. I only get the 0.33 from my gear, in particular the Inna's set 3 piece bonus. I could up that number if I had different gear, but after all this gear changing, i was left with only 6K gold (better work...right?).

So, i took off on MP2, because i'd already used the Skorn on MP1 and decided it was overkill for my monk. with all the gear i am wearing in this video i was around 95K dps unbuffed, 110K buffed....if i remember right. And i only had 540ish AR. With my normal DW gear, i am at 105K unbuffed and 676AR.

Without further ado, here is the video at Monster Power level 2. Its a little long and gets boring....I stop to pick a lot of stuff up cause i was almost flat broke.... i die occasionally because i'm still not use to the playing style. Oh.....and when i find the shrine of Empowerment my spirit regen is up to 12.33. I pretty much cant run out at that point. Here it is:

    http://youtu.be/m_uaQmJmmL8

I have more footage from when i braved MP7 for a few seconds and from trying MP3 and MP4 as well.

Yep. This video is not available in your country etc. The error shows up because you have used music or something that you don't own. Copyright etc.

Well that's certainly better than my first attempt a long time ago :)

Currently I'm using a TR build with fleet footed + exalted soul, and dual wielding relatively fast weapons. I rely on TR for moving between mob packs, and for fast repositioning when elites drop nasty stuff on the ground or try to run. For this build, you want mobs to actually last for a bit, otherwise you don't regenerate spirit.
The high attack speed makes me feel somewhat more comfortable while fighting, and I get more cyclones out.

For me, there are two things that make TR viable:
    - 4pc innas, for no spirit cost on SW
    - survivability without STI, so I can take fleet footed + exalted soul

Nothing is more annoying than to arrive at a pack and not having spirit to recast sweeping winds. With 4 piece Inna, that's never an issue. The other thing is that you still end up running without TR here and there, and without fleet footed that makes you loose all the speed that you gain from TR

Other people have made this work with different setups, this is just what works for me.

thats why i went with Chant of Resonance over fleet footed. MS can only go up to 25% on the sheet, i'm at 22% with gear already. So, i figure chant of resonance keeps my mantra up for 10 minutes now, and it also generates 1 spirit per second as long as the mantra is in effect. For me, it was about spirit regeneration, but i was able to change any thing else with the gear.

Its a great paragon farming build. went up 2 levels yesterday in only 5 or so hours of gameplay. And when i get better at the build, the exp/hour will only increase.

yeah, i technically paid for all that music, but the record industry are a bunch of fucking tools, so they say you dont "own" it. thats ok. I actually play my itunes in the background but it was muted for some reason on my screen capture. i can fix that and then it will be part of the video track.

It can go to 35% with fleet footed, 34% realistically with two 12% items and fleet footed. This also shows on the sheet.

Maybe with a 2h weapon running out of spirit is not such an issue, but for me it is important that I'm still at max speed when I can't TR. Also the 2 spirit/second from CoR is not much when you consider that I burn through 22 spirit/second .

Yes, I agree. In addition, I think it's one of the most fun ways to play a monk. I've tried many times in the past, and finally I found a setup that I feel works :)

How do you like your build so far? What skills did you switch from? The standard thunderclap, cyclone, overawe, +3 defense build?

I like the build just fine. I was more impressed when i did it with the skills and gear i have in the video, because i tried a different way at first and it didnt work that well. i currently use Thunderclap as my main, but use Tempest Rush - Tailwind on the right mouse. Then i have Breath of Heaven and Serenity with standard runes. Then i have Sweeping Winds - blade storm (but i plan to try the build with cyclone to see if its still effective) and last but not least Mantra of Healing - Circular Breathing

i understand the loss of spirit rapidly. Thats why i decided to swap Fleet footed for Exalted Soul. it allows you to channel longer and the speed from Tempest Rush compensates in my opinion. but its a personal choice. i also understand wanting to be fast when not using TR. I feel slow when i stop using it and i'm at 22% then. lol

I would say exalted soul is the most important skill and the only thing I require for tailwind farming.

    http://us.battle.net...YgSk!ZbU!aZcYca

    My farming involves 3 items.

    1. 4pc inna's. It's required and changing an off-set helm/belt legendary may lower your attack speed thus spirit requirements.

    2. Spirit regen helm. It's good to have a hp gem in your defensive helm, a spirit regen helm in your farming helm. The more spirit the better, max 2.5

    3. SoJ. Maximum xp comes from the lowest difficulty, spirit comes from hitting things, you kill trash in a couple hits instead of one, elites in a few hits. Replace an attack speed ring if possible, high spirit regen. Second choice is Leoric's signet but clear speed vs xp gain seems similar.

    * FoT and blazing fists have equal sucess in clear speed as the additional run speed has some effect.
    * conviction still has an edge to circular for me. conviction can be used if you're at full spirit or on elites.
    * dropping OWE is similar to dropping serenity. You need to be slightly defensive (not standing in explosions to loot) time lost.
    * I try dropping blind and cyclone for spirit alternatives but cyclone cleans up behind you keeping speed up.

    @Schmii

I've been running MoC/Submission lately. I figured that, since I rarely have spirit left to spam MoC, 12% buff + 28% weapon damage in a large AoE circle is not too bad.

So far I'm doing ok with just 1.33 spirit regen from 4pc innas + exalted soul, but I will look into getting a spirit regen helm someday.

I said in the first quote that i only had 6K gold after getting the last bit of gear for this. a blue item is like a gold drop. if the average blue item gets me 400-900 gold, thats just more money in my pocket. As i go along, i plan on not picking them up anymore. but its wasted money if you are dirt poor. There's no guarantee you will get a bunch of yellows. And in the beginning, i usually dont get yellow until i get a 5 stack. Either way, i dont care too much. I pick shit up...so what....I gave my reasons in the first post, and here you have them again. You might argue that you'll get more gold from only yellows and higher, but with the current yellows sucking so badly, that isnt necessarily true anymore. And, it was a trial run. Eventually, i may not pick up anything but orange and green stuff, but not till i got a few million in the bank again

What I do with my tempest rush build.
Im pretty good geared. Not the high end 300mil stuff but with my normal gear I havfe liek 165kbuffed, which for me is a lot considering I thougt I was gonna be a Swoard and board 20k dps all my life.

Keeping that Dps in mind, I can pretty much with Fleet Footed, Exalted soul, and Chant of Resonance on Mp1-2 and be totally fine.I drop some dps for the SoJ with 2spirit and 10% to FoT ( only 20%^ dmg tho but its more than enough ).

Lucky me Im a physical monk, so I have like 300 allres and 650+ physical with this setup. But it would be doable with 300 to everything as long as you melt everything.I have like 4k armor without any buffs, which helps.

Althogh this build is so messed up and we have to switch gear and play without our best items its all we can do for fast farming.Blizzard still think monks are in a good place.I guess.( someone should point blizzard to Ziss video where he made 150k budget MP10 wizzard and later farmg mP4 NP NPNPNP with that gear ).Try doing that on a monk.

I tried submission and I like it. I don't know why it's better but I got to bump up the difficulty again without losing time. MP2 now, mobs die in enough hits to keep spirit up, elites within a blind/conviction press.

Can't understand the use of this build ... I mean, how I can kill mobs?
