I wanted to start this topic so we could discuss how the perfect monk gear could look like. Both for pve but maybe more for future pvp.
I want to grind deep into the specific stats on some legends and how you should invest for future pvp.
Right now the game is like walking in the park for most monks, and it will be like driving a segway after patch 1.0.5. With that comes that all monks is going for high dps and no defense (or very low) since everything dies directly.
New legends has high dps stats, like Lacuni Prowlers and The Witching Hours, but the price for them is except for a lot of gold, that you loose defense for each legend item compared to a great/perfect rare.
But in pvp the enemies wont get one shooted, I hope, and if so the monks are not the race that will do the one-shotting. So what are your thoughts on wich legends to invest in and on what peices of your gear you should focus on defense.
Also with the new legends you can get a rediculously high attack speed (like pre nerf). And with high crit chance that means cyclones everywhere, good for pve oc, but maybe great for pvp. High attack speed could be 6x3 from jewelery, 9 from gloves and 9x2 from Lacuni and Witching Hour. Thats 45% AS, and could be the standard for future pvp monk, think how no-one can excape you since you teleport with high frequency, what are your thoughts?
So for example:
You absolutely need 24%MS both pve and pvp, to get that you have 3 options:
Innas temp + boots, lacuni + boots, lacuni + innas temp.
And the last one will get you + 18% AS, so that is preferable for pants and bracers. And then with the boots you could invest high in defense instead of MS, like Ice Climbers with your special res and high vit on.
I choosed to go with Innas Radiance for helmet but that also drains my defense even more, good for pve yes, but is it good for pvp...
Also jewelery I think you should go with high crit chance (CC) and high AS. Belt should be the The Witching Hour since that is so good and you can get it with dex 70, vit 70, special res 30-50 AND armor for around 100M, expensive yes, but this topic is for the "Perfect Monk".
So left is shoulders, chest, gloves. What are your thoughts on them? Should they get perfect defense, like +120res, armor and +140vit?
Or are there any other perfect legends that I have missed that would be of great benefit for the "perfect monk"? I think though that speed and attack speed will be the most important stats for pvp, ?
Wy I left out weapons is because there is not so much variance, yes WKL could be interesting with extremely high AS/CC for SW and maybe I have missed some other good legend. But I think that you get what you pay for when it comes to weapons. That means: +850dps, +200dex, +90CD, socket, and 1.4 or higher AS is preferable. I think high AS on weapons combined with +170CD would be very good for both pvp and pve.
Last but not least, what about Life Reg. I just love life leach, and it works wonders with SW. We can clear out LoK in pvp I think, maybe LoH is good, but I think 2x3% life leach on weapons would be great and also worth the loss in damage for lower dps weapons. Maybe we will need even more life reg, what are your thoughts?
Open for discussion, thx in advance for great inputs on topic (I admint the topic is vague).
P.S Last time I opened a topic about getting high exp/hour it doubbled my exp/hour so now that I have grinded some I have a lot of money so thats wy I open up this topic. To get some great input on how to gear for the future, or maybe just save it all for the future to tell...
I would be surprised if anything that is good for PvE is good for high end PvP.
LoH, LS, LaK is all crap, since you won't be dealing much damage or hit often. Health per second is probably the best way to go
Health pool: While most people farm with 30k-45k HP, I think PvPers will need 60k+
Damage reduction: more then PvE for sure. You need high EHP to not be one-shot by ranged
I don't know if I agree on the attack speed. I can see stuff like Exploding Palm working wonders, you can do a lot of damage with one hit (745%), plus it has a rune that reduces target run speed. Pair that with a nice 2h (Skorn with extra bleed), get Dashing Strike, etc.
Anyways, I'm not a big PvPer, just some thoughts. Right now I'm more interested in gearing up for 1.0.5.
If pvp will be anything like in d2 a shield will be needed to be viable. A well rolled sacred shield with high block % will be the best choice. Right now very few people are using shields because inferno has become so easy, so a good investment for the pvp patch might be a rare tanky shield, which in theory should be alot cheaper now.
I also think attack speed in general will be very good in pvp - more important than dps to a certain point. So attack speed on gloves/rings/amu will be better than crit dmg, is my guess.
Also you won't be hitting other players all the time like we hitting monsters non-stop so both life-leech and life on hit won't net the same steady healing. Not to mention other players defensive cooldowns. Diamond skin, smokescreen or even serenity from other monks will make life-leech useless for a short time. So passive life-regen might become very powerful. You can get a few thousands life-per-second from gear wich will heal you at all time e.g. when you are kiting or running away.
FoT/TC: To stick on range dds
Serenity: Just way to strong not to pick it
Blinding Flash: To have some sort of uptime for unloading dmg
BoH: Not sure about how good the heal will be but i guess its some kind of usefull
MoE/Hardtarget: Best in terms of mitigation hands down. Dodge could be a huge factor in pvp
Explo Palm: To keep up pressure even when not stcking on the target
- Near Death Exp: Protects from gettin 1shoted and strong when serenity is on cd
- Beacon of Ytar: Havin cds faster up again is a huge adv in pvp
- StI: Even nerfed with 1.05 its the best mitigation passive imo
Sword and Board
- Slow Wep with a realy good min dmg roll. So even if the game picks a number from the lower range still doing alot dmg. High amount of dex+loh with crit dmg and open socket
- Shield with high block, lots of dex, vit, all res, 10% crit hit and either life regen or %life
- Armor: Dex, vit, bonus armor, Life regen and all res maybe some sort of other 2nd res
- Gloves: With high crit hit and crit dmg
- Rings+Amu:: Dex, Vit, All res and crit hit / crit dmg and mybe some loh
- Immortal Kings chest and boots could be a nice option with decent dex rolls for extra all res.
- VIle Ward for shoulders
Other then that i would stick with "max rolled" rare 63s. Most legendaries/setitems havin at least 1 mostly 2 worthless stats for pvp.
As much Dex, vit, bonus armor, resistens and life regen as possible with crit hit and crit dmg as dmg stats.

Words of wisdom: Don't follow the advice of people who won't have to deal with the consequences.
I am no expert of PvP. But I would guess we might have different setups and skills for different classes, since they are so much difference between Barb, WD, Monk, DH and Wizard.
As for offense, we need MS and AS, DPS is not as important as it will be high for any good weapon.
As for defense, life regen is king, 2000+ at least to fill up your life bulb every 20 seconds and a shield should be fine, resist might be more important than armor as we'll be hit more often by AOE spells.
As for skill, the base attack is FoT/TC, along with SSS for melee and WoL for casters and DH. But it all depends on how Blizzard tune the PvP arena for various classes. We need a lot of spirit too to cast WoL or recast some of the buff (MoC) for additional damage.
Thx for great input. I never played d2 or wow online so thx for enlighting me with your experience regarding pvp.
Now that Cheng and Wilson made it clear through IGN that pvp hits first next year I think we should focus more on pve.
And then my thoughts on top legends and how they interact for the perfect pve monk. What are your thoughts on that?
